  • Why haven’t we seen any new Boxers athletic as Roy Jones ?

We have more technology to work muscles more information to achieve certain athletic goals if we have the predisposition to reach those levels, however we still haven’t seen a Boxer close to athleticism Roy Jones had in the last 7 years ? Why is this ?

We have. Off the top of my head I can’t think of anybody and honestly not trying to argue but physically we have, and possibly superior.

the thing is that X-Factor/ god given talent and also the training. Fighters ain’t trained or don’t train Like Roy’s father did him. Those that do like Porter and Bradley often times over achieve off out willing you.

Add the athleticism of Roy and you have a force of nature.

Wrong. The NFL takes the best Football players, not the best fighters.

The NBA takes the best Basketball players, not the best fighters.

....and only a few of them, in fact.

What "Great athleticism" is, differs widely by sport; lest we have Sumo Wrestlers dominaing in Tennis.

        And the UFC ?????
        Heck no. Not ever!!!!

NOBODY who has the ingredients to make it in boxing would EVER bother with the much lower wages and respect offered by MMA.

That would be akin to getting a law or medical degree so that you can get a job sweeping the floor.

        Check your logic there.

You're not being consistent here. You say the athletic requirements differ depending on the sport (which is true of course) but then disregard that when talking about boxing and MMA. Guys like Brock, Yoel Romero, Khabib, GSP, Fedor, Randleman etc etc couldnt box for **** but I dont think anyone would question their athleticism or fighting ability.

FWIW I do think boxers are still better athletes on average. Bigger talent pool etc.

Same reason we haven’t seen an NBA player like Michael Jordan.

            Roy was a 1 of 1.

That type of talent is a gift from God, and not everybody gets that gift.

We won't see anyone as athletic as the 90s ever again. They can't be so blatant with the drug cheating now.

You just had not asked... Let me just take a few fingers and pull someone out of my a s s hole here... .

Seriously though and you know I am kidding above, They did a study on Ted Williams, the famous ball player. His reflexes were literally off the charts, and his vision as well. It was basically determined that when an 85 to 90 mile an hour fastball (that is as hard as they threw back then), came his way, it was the equivalent of most people looking at a softball.

None of that was athletic: of course Williams grandfather had Ted work with a saber as a boy which gave him strong wrists, and obviously Williams was a great athlete, but these attributes were distinct and rare! Jones had that type of background. Ali as well. Mayweather? Possibly. I am talking reflexes which cannot be trained with respect to measured potential reaction.

Marciano was more of an athletic marvel because of his engine and willpower, but i actually agree with our own poster margiano who stated that marciano was once in seven generations... I think this is more rare than even the phenom that was Williams and Jones.

You do see them crop up but they are even more rare than the individuals who can aspire to the top professional ranks. Nicolino Locche was another such fighter with superhuman reflexes.
