You think the drugs were better then than they are now?

Why do you think world records keep getting broken in athletics, swimming etc?

The drugs themselves aren't any different for the most part.

It's the education on how to get the best out of them that has drastically improved.

Yeah doping is essentially just high level biological science.

Bit different in boxing, they rarely get tested out of competition.

But back then, they rarely got tested in competition.

in fairness, none of them did, so you can argue it was fair, but theres little doubt Roy and others misused drugs pretty heavily.

Roy definitely used PED’s but what I’m saying is the PED’s are way more effective 30 years on. Everything evolves, especially science.

Florence Griffith Joyner disagrees. Ben Johnsons time would still be one of the fastest of all time.

Drugs are likely better, of course, but athletes have to be somewhat smarter now in their use. Back in Roy's day it was just a free for all. Different game now.

No, but the testing is more stringent now.

Two very specific examples, generally records are consistently being broken across nearly all athletically discriminative sports.

Is the testing really that much stricter? Feels like athletes get away with it just as easily.

Regardless, PED’s are not the reason there hasn’t been another Roy Jones, he was just a freak athlete like a Usain Bolt, Michael Jordan, Brock Lesnar, Erling Haaland etc.

It is massively stricter. Back then, there was barely testing at all.

But, like with all things, adjustments are made to beat the tests. To the point where it's not overly difficult to beat the testing.

So it's the same difference really. Athletes are using now just as much as they were then.
