What happens to boxing if that happens, and the whole narrative which is correct that mma fighters can’t box.

Fury better not take this lightly, I swear down
I watched his fight against ciryl gane and ciryl clearly won the stand up part,Ngannou was so slow and sluggish you could tell the roids didn't help him much even the ground work was even but yet the judges thought Ngannou won somehow, was a clear robbery but what to expect from a corrupted organization like the ufc?! So in saying that, that sluggy slow roided bum has no chance against Fury and there's no point in staging that rubbish. Big fan of Fury but he needs to fight that Ukrainian "middleweight"

As far as French HWs go look at Yoka, Takam and Duhaupas compared to Ngannou and Gane for a clear illustration of this. Seems like he made the right choice no?
He probably did make the right choice. He turned out to be a very good MMA fighter.

If he was a genuine boxing prospect capable of surpassing the guys you mention, then that would have been the better route financially. Duhaupas and Takam competed for world titles despite being in a 'boxing backwater'. Yoka clearly will.

But they're boxers, and Ngannou never was despite wanting to be one.

How long was he actually training in boxing to be judged like that? I mean are you seriously saying someone went to him "yeah you suck, theres tons of HWs here in France better than you, you're going nowhere kid, go to MMA"? because that sounds ****ing preposterous to me.....

The macro fundamentals might be similar but they're completely different techniques.

Ngannou isn't going to walk into the boxing world and become an elite level puncher. He won't even be an average puncher.

The fact that anyone sees different is testament to Fury, Warren and Arum being right when they estimate the average boxing fan's lack of understanding of the sport.

You'll see it within seconds. The first punch that Ngannou throws will look ridiculous in a boxing ring. That's not really a statement on Ngannou, except to say he's trained his entire life for a different sport.

Think about the varying levels of jabbing ability at even the top level of boxing. Professional boxers don't necessarily have a great jab - how will Ngannou?

There will be no shock. Fury will play with Ngannou. Then he'll win. But they'll make it look semi interesting for a bit so that the crowd don't riot when they realise how badly they've been conned.

Very good post. I could argue (if I was that type) that what MMA fighters train for IS pure Boxing and no other "kind" of upright striking, but simply readjusted for environmet and integrated into the grappling, leg striking and all outside upright striking that is implied by the opened up rules that allow those things. One thing that I might disagree with, is that purchasing the event to see real time is AOK with me. I haven't been conned by doing so; I'm being entertained by witnessing the beauty of boxing science at work against an ATG MMA champion who's acheived that status using Boxing far above all other techniques. Though the majority of MMA fans object to the concept of education of any kind, it'll be a great lesson for them. As Boxing folks, we ought to love that.

MMA fans actually tend to be the most knowledgeable combat sports fans because of MMAs nature as a hybrid sport, ie they are more likely to have experience with other combat sports than Just MMA on a spectator and/or technical level due to the level of crossover, while Boxing fans tend to be the most ignorant and say the dumbest shyt because its the most technically simple and exists in a relative bubble.

Ngannou couldn't knock out any top 10 HW.

But it would be hilarious if he puts the fat gypsy con-man on his butt. I bet Fury might even take a dive before he wins this will be a fake fight like a WWE contest.

Fury will look bad and may go for a rematch to make even more money. The belt is not on the line for this so nothing happens technically.
