It's the sort of derisory offer you make when you don't want the fight. And Usyk clearly didn't want the fight. Which was very understandable....
-
It was some WBO purse rule based on last three fights.
But they weren't fighting anyway. Usyk was in line for Joshua - he didn't need an interim title fight unless Fury and Joshua managed to fight....Last edited by Toffee; Today, 02:30 AM.

Usyk took the rematch as it was a good deal for him at that time. He backed himself to get 30% (at least - we don't really know the actual figure) and then 50%. Not bad for a challenger.
Joshua/Hearn probably did threaten to drop the belt. They probably also threatened to just fight once...

I'll ignore the first half. You refuse to accept anything and contradict yourself constantly. It's too much nonsense to keep going back and forth on.
The second half that I've quoted is a more obvious opportunity to educate you.
USYK WAS A MANDATORY CHALLENGER.

AJ may well have done the last two things. We don't know. But Usyk could refuse and insist on either the fight as ordered or for AJ to release the belt.
50% to Usyk was clearly a good offer, though he didn't have to take it. He was a non title holder going in and clearly inferior in selling...

The Joshua situation was completely different. You can't force a mandatory to do anything. The rematch suited Joshua and it had to be generous to entice Usyk. That's why Usyk accepted it - he certainly didn't have to. He could have taken his mandated split and fought just one fight.

Agree with what you say about Fury's actions but not the reason.
I think he really likes being Champion. That's why he's prepared to take risks to get there. He went to Germany, he fought Wilder when he was nowhere near ready.
But once he's got the belt, he's taking no chances...

Until now. He's been shown up by Usyk.
I'm sure he'll brazen it out and fool a couple of low IQ types, but most finally see through it now....

Fury loves this stuff. He thinks he's got everyone fooled - the master of mind games and manipulation.
Usyk just beat him at his own game. Fury looks terrible. You didn't want the fight and you got shown up Greedy Belly (as Usyk has now christened you)....Poopdick likes this.

And who stopped him living up to his contractual commitments in the 20 months before he fought Wilder?
Do me a favour and go through his fight history from 2015.
I don't understand how anyone can think he was lying this time but was telling the truth all of the others!

I said last week on here that it would actually be out of character for Fury to fight Usyk. He's never defended against a decent fighter voluntarily, he doesn't even like to fulfil mandatories or contractual rematches.
I'm not sure why anyone believed it was happening.

The funny thing is, plenty of you believed him over Klitschko, Wilder, Whyte, Joshua. You even believed the things he said. He was supposedly the one who wanted to fight everyone and you could justify his demands and excuses.
Finally pulling this on Usyk toppled you over the edge. But it's...MikeyMike100 likes this.

The only justification is that, ultimately, it's his body, head and brain at stake and he can do what he wants with them. If he doesn't think a certain amount of dollars are worth it then fair enough. His call.
In terms of who caused the fight to collapse though, it's well and truly him....MikeyMike100 likes this.

It wouldn't be much of a fight if Fury was the only one in the ring.
The opponent always matters. In this case the opponent has great credibility, is well liked in the UK and globally, and brings three quarters of the heavyweight belts. And was taking only 30%!!!
In the event...

Makes you wonder what the circumstances will have to be for an Undisputed fight to ever be made.
This was pretty close to perfect. Two big names but a clear bigger draw in Fury, both mid to late 30s, no current mandatories, no real debate over one having home advantage given where Usyk...landotter likes this.

If he was getting 50/50 in the first fight, maybe he would have accepted it.
The difference is that Usyk was a mandatory v Joshua. Whereas he's got three quarters of the belts now and is a huge part of what would be an Undisputed title fight. And in the event of this 50/50 rematch happening...

Classic Holyfield move... go beat the guys your rival beat.
If Usyk fought and beat Wilder he'd have a real claim to number one. Joshua, Joshua, Wilder... three belts, ring champion, takes on the big fights. Fury beating another Chisora-a-like or Schwarzesque fighter will look terrible...
