Man for the Barrera fight it was all about preparing. PAC sparred some ridiculous amount of rounds conditioning himself to go more than 12 rounds. He left it all in the gym. The reason why he won was because he was so used to killing himself in training, making the fight easy. "Cry in the dojo, laugh on the battlefield."

As far as ODLH he was ducking Margarito at the time. Instead of fighting him for an all mexican showdown, he chose to pick on the little Filipino instead.

It's too bad we never got to see Pacquiao vs Canelo.

I remember Filipino politicians who wanted Bob Arum to cancel the fight because they were afraid of Manny getting hurt.

As for the other catchweights? Cotto, Margarito, Algieri, etc. Didn't like those but Pacquiao was the A-side in those bouts.
Actually Floyd retired just a few months before to avoid the rematch in September. Unfortunately for Oscar he had to wait till December for his fight with Pac. He had timed his return to 147 for Sepetember, I can't help but think having to stay at that weight for 3 months was detrimental.

"Mayweather was scheduled to square off against boxing's "Golden Boy," later this year in the most lucrative rematch in all of boxing. "Pretty Boy Floyd" seems to be disinterested with the overwhelming purse the fight has to offer, which isn't surprising considering the $50 million he received from his fights in 2007.

Mayweather has decided to walk away with an unblemished record (39-0, 25KOs), causing boxing fans to scratch their heads. Is Mayweather really ready to call the quits? Or is he dodging De La Hoya in fear of tarnishing perfection?"

Using the excuse they are grown men making their own decision is not the case in high stakes high dollar sporting competition, there are many reasons why a guy will take on a major handicap to compete, firstly they are fighters, secondly, they like money, and thirdly they have influenced advisers.

No fighter really wants a CW that is placed on them if they had the choice they would rather they not have it, they only happen because of the above.

Manny made a career of manipulating weight, his biggest fights that catapulted his career were on the back of CWS and fighters coming of their career biggest losses, its been beat to death in here I can't even be bothered itemizing the weight BS Manny got away with its a long list going right back to being 144lb in-ring as a LW. to beating Cotto at a CW and refusing to fight him again without another CW after being the one to call Cotto out for his 154 title, its shows Mannys thinking, he cant beat Cotto without a CW.
Floyd vs Marquez was cherrypick City complete with excuses:

Floyd Mayweather loses $600K after missing weight for Juan Manuel Marquez fight

LAS VEGAS -- A day after Floyd Mayweater missed his agreed-upon catch weight by two pounds for his fight late Saturday against Juan Manuel Marquez, two questions still prevailed.

When did he know he wasn't going to make 144 pounds?

And did he ever intend to try?

The Mayweather-Marquez contracts called for a welterweight fight -- 147 pounds -- but with an agreed-upon weight of 144 pounds.

          Mayweather weighed 146 pounds at Friday's official weigh-in, to Marquez's 142.

If either fighter failed to make the catch weight, he was contractually bound to pay his opponent $300,000 for each pound he weighed heavier than 144.

That means Marquez essentially received a 30-percent bonus payment beyond his $2 million contractual purse -- $600,000 -- because Mayweather came in two pounds too heavy.

"Want me to be honest?" Mayweather said after his dominant 12-round decision win.

"Yesterday, when I woke up in the morning, I weighed at my house. I think I weighed 145 1/2 so I said, 'You know what, at least let me get down to at least 145.'

"So I jogged for 20 minutes on the treadmill at my house and I weighed 145-point-zero. So I thought when I got here, I was going to get on the scales and it was going to say 145. But I ain't crying or complaining. If the extra money is something they wanted, then it is what it is."

Marquez weighed 148 on HBO's unofficial scale Saturday night. Mayweather refused the network's request for a night-of-fight weigh-in.

"I think the weight was a big problem," said Marquez, who never officially weighed in heavier than 135 pounds previously. "I think there was maybe a 20-pound difference in weight."

Roger Mayweather, who trains his nephew, said shortly after the weigh-in that he had no idea what the contractual payment required but said he thought it would be four figures, or perhaps low five figures, for each pound overweight.

He grossly underestimated the penalty, of course, and said his nephew could have made 144 pounds, and attempted to do so.

He suggested his nephew might return to the scale within the two-hour time limit allowed by Nevada statute for a fighter to make weight, but that did not happen.

Floyd Mayweather Sr. said he was with his son until midnight the night before the weigh-in, "and he wasn't trying to dry out," the traditional nourishment and hydration deprivation fighters go through the night before a weigh-in.

Keith Kizer, Nevada Athletic Commission executive director, said both camps became aware Friday morning that Mayweather would not make the agreed-upon weight, a notification which struck many as curious.

"If this was built into the contract then why did they have that meeting?" said Bert Sugar, boxing author and historian. "What was that all about?"

It don’t matter who wanted he still accepted it. Pacquiao and Canelo have both fought more catchweight fights, more fighters coming off losses, and for more vacant titles than Floyd. They don’t make ‘em like Floyd anymore. TBE also fought more fighters coming off KO wins then Pacquiao

The guys Floyd cherrypicked are no better or worse than the guys Manny or Canelo fought.

No one was talking about Manny's catchweights until Floyd criticized them. Then, Floyd the hypocrite signs two fights at a catchweight. The same Floyd fans who trashed Manny for CWs, praised Floyd's wins at CWs.

How the fck can a 130 guy meet a 147 guy at 140 and it not be a CW. .its so much more than the label.

Manny Oscar was not just a WW fight it had every element of a CW applied to it, you're all hung up on a division limit while the division is a range of weight, why do you give the limit any more legitimacy than say a pound under the limit which still classified as WW. What is the difference 146 to 147 to guy coming from 160 , none at all its still the same deal to him.

                  Here is what webster says.

                  Definition of catchweight
: a negotiated weight limit for a sports event (such as a boxing match) that does not fall within the traditional weight class divisions

So according to them you cant have a CW because they will always fall within a traditional division, nothing said about a division limit, but it did say a negotiated weight limit for a match.
So you’re saying Mayweather vs Hatton was a Catchweight then? For example?

Read what your just posted “doesn’t fall within a traditional division”

Meaning, fights that are outside of the normal weight limits.

That’s what Catchweight fight are, in the literal sense. Dating back as far as the early 1900’s.

If two people fight at the full weight limit of the weight class. It’s not a Catchweight fight. That’s a matter of fact.

Cherry-picking is subjective. What I’m talking about is undeniable FACTS. So your comment has absolutely nothing to do with Floyd fighting in less catchweights, fighting more fighters coming of KO wins, fighting less fighters coming off losses, and fighting for fewer vacant titles than both Nelo and Pacquiao.

                      - - Manny holds Ring P4P record for most P4Ps fought, wins, KOs, years ranked, and weight classes, so it really ain't even close. There is no #2-5, just a bunch of candied yammers mushing up their boxing knowledge on this forum.
