Warren: Fury will not defend the WBC title next

Champions need to fight mandatories. It's not difficult.
There is no better option, because the RING and possibly others have arbitrarily decided to rank the top 10 that way? You’ve jumped way ahead there and concluded something way beyond my initial point. Calm it sir
Should Fury decide to fight Joyce for example, I would be happy. If he does fight Whyte, also happy… though stylistically not excited by it. Chisora/Fury fights werent exactly Hagler-Hearns, and I don’t think Whyte is that different. If he wants to wait out the winner of Usyk-Joshua, fair enough also… it would give enough hints to suggest retirement is close for Fury
what I wouldn’t defend is Fury to fight a no hoper instead of Whyte. Had I said that, maybe you’d have a point
Let's not forget Fury became champion in the first place because Wlad fought him.
Boxers should not be defended when they avoid mandatories, unless those mandatories offer nothing.
Whyte offers the toughest fight (in most experts minds) and the biggest money.
No excuse for not taking it.
I'm a Fury fan by the way, but this fight needs to happen. No excuses.Comment

"Tyson Fury has seemingly had a quick change of heart regarding a potential fight with Dillian Whyte, which is set to be ordered by the WBC.
"After WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman revealed plans to put the fight out as a final eliminator to champion Deontay Wilder, Fury initially dismissed the idea, but then stated he would take the bout if a special WBC ‘diamond’ belt would be on the line.
Now however, he has done an about turn once again and declared that it is not likely to take place next.
When asked about the Whyte fight, Fury told US reporters: “I don’t think it’s gonna happen to be honest."
“Dillian Whyte for a mandatory slot? I’m not interested. I’m the ‘lineal’ heavyweight champion of the world."

And? What does that have to do with the WBC publicly confirming that Whyte refused the fight and filed a petition to avoid it?

Because this happened AFTER the WBC statement you keep trying to muddy the waters with. Fury publicly challenged Whyte to fight him for the Diamond belt, Whyte publicly accepted the challenge and Fury then changed his mind and said he wasn't going to fight Whyte after all.Last edited by kafkod; 12-27-2021, 04:05 PM.Comment

So after Whyte refused to fight, as publicly confirmed by the WBC, and after Whyte filed a petition to avoid the fight, as publicly confirmed by the WBC, Fury said the fight probably wasn't going to happen.
