Why are Americans so negative about European fighters?

You guys also bring a lot of heat on yourselves with all this "fat yank" bull****.

I'm not saying we're saints either ; I've seen plenty of dumbass Americans use the term "eurobum" as much as you guys say "fat yank".

But it's childish banter, and nothing more.

And I treat the people who use those terms like the children that they are. Whether they're American, European, or whatever.

(Except for Anorak who calls me a fat yank on a daily basis, but he's a funny ****, and a friend of mine here ; so I tolerate the green teef.)

And no. Duran and Barrera are not better than most of our guys. Most Americans fans don't rate Duran at all.

Are you serious man?? Most dont rate Duran? Duran is highly regarded here and probably everywhere in the world. Duran is not better than most of our guys? Obviously you are under 20 and have never actually seen a Duran fight. Either that or something else that Bringer said.

Duran ****s all over a lot of American legends.

He's better than my boy Hopkins, better than Jones, better than Pernell, better than Leonard, better than Hagler, better than Hearns, beter than Tyson, etc.....

The only guys I rank above him are guys like Robinson, Ali, Louis, Pep, Greb, etc....

He's easily top 25 for me.

        But that's just my opinion.

I would have to put Duran in the top ten. He was an amazing fighter especially when he was younger when he was like a buzzsaw, cutting down everyone.

            Another thing....

Boxing is a sport that is primitive and competitive in nature ; it is only natural for a fan to want to root for whoever "their guy" is in a fight.

My guy in the Hopkins/Calzaghe fight was Hopkins, and I rooted accordingly.

Similarly, I rooted for Calzaghe against Lacy because I was sick of the media telling me how amazing Lacy was when I wasn't sold on him.

There's nothing wrong with supporting whoever "your guy" happens to be.

I support a lot of American fighters, but right now, only 3 of my top 10 favorites are Americans.

I've seen many very respectable posters with him in their top 10 as well.

I have him at exactly #16.

              So he's top 20, officially.

Though I need to reshuffle the deck and start adding guys like Pacquiao and Calzaghe to that list.

The last time I did my top 100 was back in 2006.

Just wanted to clarify ; the reason I rooted for Hopkins against Calzaghe had nothing to do with nationality.

I'm from Philly and I go balls out with my support for anybody from there. I'm throwing points on Chambers to beat Wlad even though I know Wlad is likely to dominate him.

Just wanted to clarify that so nobody thought I was rooting on nationality.

It's good to see that there are still some intelligent and knowledgeable boxing fans out there who know the difference in a friendly debate vs childish bantering, gimmicks and arguments laced with emotional outburst not based on logic. The type of arguments that try to persuade other posters through emotion and not facts or logical theories or arguments. I stopped posting for a long time because of this and many other reasons but maybe perhaps I can engage in some stimulating debates again. (might test the waters and see what is out there) Thanks....
