Why are Americans so negative about European fighters?

    Lol.

I remember so many people calling Lacy the super middleweight Tyson. He lives near Tampa where I live so the the sports section of one of the newspapers ran this article the weekend of the fight about how Lacy was going to win and would KO anyone between super middle and cruiserweight and crap like that. Man he was exposed.

Say what you want about Lacy being overhyped like he was, but man ; that guy has more heart than most fighters these days.

Calzaghe was dominating him from the opening bell and just made him look like a total clown.

But he never gave up and tried his best.

I never even liked him but that endeared him to me a bit.

True Lacy has heart and balls for going to the UK to fight Calzaghe in the first place.

I almost felt guilty for rooting for Calzaghe.

I wanted to see Lacy lose, but damn....

I think US boxing legend Hopkins explains the US vs EU situation beautifully:

As already said it works both ways. Europeans will give 'fat yanks' comments ect, and Americans will write a fighter-off just because he's European.

Alot of that goes on on these boards, but there is also alot of decent posters who recognise a good fighter regardless to were there from.

Personally, i wont call anyone over-rated till iv seen them fight alot of times, and until iv seen them fight quality opposition, then il make judgment.

But to me, judging a fighter by where he is from is just daft.

For example, to me Clazaghe was a very good fighter. But i knew this before he went to America, My opinion of him wouldnt of changed if he hadnt of fought Hopkins / Jones. Just because he went to America and fought Americans didnt change my opinin in this case, maybe if he went a few years earlier i would of had a different out-look i , dont know.

But to me, its not where any fighter is from, its what impression i get while im watching them. Im English, but id never write-off a prospect from England, Germany, America, Cuba, Mexico just beacuse off where there from , or what past fighters from that given country have been like.
Id only judge them when iv seen them fight a couple of times and can build up an opinion of them

So Hopkins represents every American now?

The bottom line is this ; as Chunk said, it's a two way street.

So long as there are biased European fight fans posting stuff about "fat yanks", there will always be biased American fight fans posting stuff about "eurobums" and vice versa.

Aside from that ; this is an internet forum where **** gets slung at everybody on a daily basis.

I'd much rather have it the way it is where you can actually express your opinion than have it be just another heavily moderated boxing forum where you can get banned just for disagreeing with somebody.

European: You think so? 25 years of boxing and look at this face man it's for a reason.
Ignorant American: You fought every.. Because you fought over in Europe.. Because you fought in Europe!
European: You think you could beat Kessler?
Ignorant American: You fought in Europe.
Ignorant American: Kessler's not in my league, man.
European: Ok, If that's what you think ok.
                      Ignorant American: Who is Kessler!?
European: Ok, that's good, that's good.
                      Ignorant American: Are you serious?
European: That's good, you know what I'm excited already.
European: When do you want to fight? When do you want to fight?
Ignorant American: See I could said you think you could beat this person but I'm not gonna give nobody information.
European (at same time): How are you going to beat me throwing 4 punches a round?
Ignorant American (at same time): You're just saying you think Kessler, you think Kessler is a true warrior?
European: How can you beat me? It's impossible.
Ignorant American: Ohh I'm ****** I'm gonna tell you how I'm gonna beat you I'll wait till the fight to tell you. It's better if I show you, I'm gonna tell you how I'm gonna beat you.
European: I'm definitely going to beat you, I know I'm going to beat you.
Ignorant American: You do though but something (???)
                      European: Is that right?
Ignorant American: Yeah, you want me to tell you how I'm going to beat you?
European: Legend, you can't beat me it's impossible.
Ignorant American: You want me to tell me how I'm going to beat you? Wouldn't it be better for me to show you how to beat you than tell you?
European: You lost to Jermain Taylor twice man. I would whoop Jermain Taylor.
Ignorant American: Oh you really think I lost? You honestly think I lost the fights?
European: Ok 50/50 fights but I would knock him out man.
Ignorant American: Oh changed your mind that quick he's an easy negotiator.
European: I would knock Jermain Taylor out, I wanna give you some confidence.
Ignorant American: I beat you already!!!
European: No chance man you lost man you got no chance your a legend in your own house man.
Ignorant American: I will never let a white boy beat me! I will never let a white boy beat me! I will never let a white boy beat me!
European: Oh is that right? Calm down man
Ignorant American: I will never let a white boy beat me!
European: Well you're gonna lose, if you fight me you'll lose. If you fight me you will lose.
Ignorant American: I will never let a white boy beat me!
European: You will lose, you will lose man.
Ignorant American: And you quote any statement you want and print it, I will never lose to a white person.
European: Oh I can't wait man.
