Obviously Oscar was the bigger draw, but Floyd did some solid PPV numbers before fighting Oscar. Plus HBO and GBP did a masterful job of promoting the fight.

People get caught up in Mayweather not doing so well in selling tickets to the arena, but PPV generates more revenue than ticket sales. Mayweather was one of the bigger PPV draws in the sport before fighting DLH, the DLH fight put him on another level (but still below the Fishnet).

      What are you talking about?

I'm not even bashing or defending Leonard. I'm criticizing HBO for helping spread this myth of Leonard "ducking" Pryor and the illogic of posters who think that "calling out" big-name fighters means a whole lot, like the big-name fighter has to fight every guy who challenges him.

And as for why Leonard made Hagler "wait"? In 1982, he had an eye injury, he chose to retire and became a ******* addict. He couldn't stay away from the sport and came back. Even after getting the bejesus kicked out him by Terry Norris, he still couldn't stay away.

He came back because he saw Hagler put in a not so good performance in his previous fight, also Leonard negotiated a 12 round fight instead of 15, not to mention a bigger ring so he could dance around.

Yeah, Hagler looked slow and more hittable against Mugabi then ever. Leonard admitted so. Hagler peaked probably in 1983, against Sibson.

Still, Leonard wasn't exactly prime. He looked like **** in a 1984 bout against Kevin Howard. He had a detached retina. He was a smaller fighter and hadn't fought in 3 years.

He just chose in 1982 not to move up 13 lbs to fight Hagler. A welterweight champion doesn't have an obligation to fight a middleweight champion. Qawi and Spinks used to call out Hagler, but Hagler never showed any interest in fighting them. A middleweight champ has no obligation to fight a light-heavyweight champ.

I agree, would you agree a PPV star has a right to not fight a non-PPV star?

Leonard has said he waited till Grandmothers on the street told him he had to fight Hagler before he did, and I think that is what Mayweather is doing the same. Regardless of your views or who's fan you are everyone does admit this fight has to happen, however if it doesn't it will look a lot worse for Mayweather then it every will for Cotto.

A fighter has the right to turn down a fight with anyone they damn well please. They're the ones taking the lumps in the ring, in a sport where the risk and danger is high, and all that lovely 401k consisting of $0.00. As a result, fans have the right to criticize when they are unhappy.

I found it hilarious when someone started a thread asking "has Floyd earned the right to take a vacation??"

                      Hmmm?

                      Sounds like a joint effort.
