He visited Wales on holiday and had a 'bad experience' with the villagers. They say men outnumber women 4 to 1 in the Welsh Valleys, and those miners were getting lonely.

Hopkins (IBF, WBC, WBO, WBA, Ring at 160, and IBO, Ring at 175)
Kessler (WBA and WBC at 168)
        Lacy (IBF at 168)
        Mitchell (WBA twice at 168)
        Brewer (IBF at 168)
Veit (interim WBO twice at 168)
        Woodhall (WBC at 168)
        Thornberry (IBO at 168)

Some of the others were strong opponents too:

        Bika (contender champion 2007)
Sheika (was coming off a win over Glen Johnson)

        Some were undefeated:

        Kessler (39-0)
        Lacy (21-0)
        Veit (30-0)
        Hughes (12-0)
        Delaney (21-0)

Calzaghe currently holds the prestigious Ring title in two different weight classes, super middleweight and light heavyweight, at the same time!

It's a very good resume by any standards.
This is why i feel Linear Championships are so important... That giant alphabet soup you just mentioned doesn't mean **** to me. Eubank, Kessler, and Hopkins were his best opponents. He's arguable defeated ONE world champ, B-Hop (former undisputed middleweight king and former ring magazine champ at lightheavy... [Zsolt Erdei unfortunately is the linear champ]). Joe gets credit for cleaning up the SMM division and becoming the first undisputed linear champ in the division. Joe gets credit for defending his WBO 21 times. No matter who you cut it, that's a great accomplishment. He also gets credit for holding the ring title in two divisions. But the SMM was a weak division and unfortunately his only victory over a REAL champion is tainted (hopkins was 43). So like someone said before it is not a great resume... it's just OK.

He beat Chris by a wide margin, knocked him down twice, hurt him, and ring side post fight said I beat him easily. True, he did. Yet late on he still says that was his toughest fight. He really has just never majorly struggled that badly to a win, closest being when he was ill and injured against Reid, and against spoiler Hops, even then a good few rounds clear.
I get it...Eubank wasn't old...he just wasn't good anymore, could barely make weight and...just wasn't good anymore. When was the last time Eubank had a signficant victory prior to fighting Calzaghe? Get serious.

You guys play the name game just like promoters do , a fighters name and reputation lasts a long longer than his ability to live up to , all of Joes name opponents pre Lacy were about to retire and all were past thier best , the Euros like Veit and lesser were ordinary , Joes a good fighter but its a padded resume that is what it is , why does every good fighter need to be put on a pedestal by their fans , fans love to make their chosen fighters grandiose .

              Old and about to retire?

Some of Joe's pre-Lacy title defenses were against still-active "name" opponents younger than himself: Mitchell, Sheika, etc.

Get real here , Shieka is a fringe contender of no real claim and considered a journeymen , Mitchel retired next fight and got stopped in his last three ,,, you guys pull rabbits out of hats and have no meaning of being real .

Sheika defeated Glen Johnson in his fight before Calzaghe. He's had some wars since then, but he was far from shot when he fought Joe.

Please explain to me, this puzzles me: why do you hate Joe Calzaghe? Is it because he's not American?

I'm American not British, but that doesn't affect my opinion of him.

Johnson just lost three at the time and had reported personal problems going on for a string of 4 straight losses , once again you neglect the true form and name drop which is typical .

I dont hate Calzaghe , but thats how you view anything thats not blowing sunshine , Im Australian so have no bias in any of this , Im about being real and try and keep it fair , blowing sunshine lost its appeal a very long time ago .
