    People mistake record for resume.

DLH has fought maybe 6 or 7 truly world class fighters. Top world class fighters.

Calzaghe has fought maybe 3 or 4.

De La Hoya has lost 5 times.

Calzaghe has not lost at all.

People look at who you have fought as being the definition of your career. If you look at who De La Hoya has defeated, his record isnt really any more impressive than Calzaghe's in honesty. So if Calzaghe fought Roy Jones Jnr, Michael Nunn, James Toney all in their prime and lost to them all...would his record really be more impressive?

No, if he lost to them all his record would be worse, better if he'd won.

Its moot though, because in reality Calzaghe could never have faced Nunn or Toney, and only fought Roy Jones if BOTH guys had been willing to make a pretty big effort to get it on.

If we go by belts then even gatti has a great resume, Its easy to make a list like this. I dont think his resume is great by any chance giving that his 35 years young, If his resume was like this at 31 or 32 then i would say great.

I'm a big Joe Calzaghe fan, but I'd call it a solid rather than spectacular record. Two big fights could have happened in Calzaghe's career that didn't; Hopkins backed out of one and the Roy Jones fight just never made sense.

Roy was already a champ at 175 before Joe became a champ at 168. People seem to be suggesting that Joe should have almost instantly jumped up to 175 to fight Roy. Joe had a right to stay a spell at 168 before chasing the best boxer in the world. The problem was that without Hopkins moving up, there weren't any big fights for Joe to really take at 168 besides Ottke who avoided him like the plague. Joe understandably didn't want to fight Roy for peanuts, so he was forced to try and make himself a bigger name with the people available. There just wasn't anyone till Lacy came along and by that time Roy had lost three times in a row. The same could be said of 175 with the exceptions of Roy, who Joe didn't want to fight for small money and later on Glen Johnson, who wasn't big till after beating Roy.

Unfortunate circumstances meant that a Calzaghe vs Jones Jr fight never made sense, even for Roy. Even if Roy might be a bit past it now, this fight still needs to happen.

Exactly, you can't criticize a green Joe for not moving up to fight RJJ without criticizing Hopkins for not moving up to fight Joe, or avenging his loss to RJJ for that matter.
