lolz, what power are you talkin about? you must mean when he was at the lower weights, cause he has no power now.

Mayweather goes on the offensive every now and then, much more often than Pernell did.

This is how I intended complete. Clearly either I see 24 idiots, or 24 people have intended complete in a different sense.

Whitaker knocked out opponents with one punch in title fights, knocked out, dropped and hurt naturally larger opponents than himself, etc.

Whitaker's wins over Nazario, Rodriguez, and Hurtado are more impressive to me than anything Floyd has done at higher weights power wise.

You also have to consider that Floyd didn't fight the fighters than Pernell has. Two completely different levels of competition.

Pernell's power wasnt quite as bad as people think. he didnt finish people often, but he was able to hurt and reaaally beat up a lot of very tough fighters. no, not simply outbox them, he would really beat them up. try to get his fights, or look them up on youtube, with Haugen, Chavez, McGirt. these were strong fighters, and he was able to stun them more than a few times. Haugen was a tough son of a *****, and Whitaker dropped him and by the end of the fight was knocking him around the ring.

and the few knockouts he DID have...pretty brutal. Hurtado...ouch. Pernell just never really was never really a finisher. just because you dont have a lot of KOs doesnt mean youre not a hard puncher, look at Lamotta.

maybe its just me, but skillset wise, I dont think there is any fighter in history with a more complete set than Whitaker.

A lot of the opinions people have presented about Pernell are very inaccurate. I gather that most of the posters have never actually seen Sweet Pea in action.

                    Great post.

I have to differ with you on the completeness of Pernell. He is not all that complete, but he is so talented that he could improvise ways to beat anyone.

His fundamentals are not as strong as Floyd's are, and he is not as well versed in all manners of fighting as Floyd is, but even so, he would demolish Floyd in any style he chose, just because he is that good.

He is like Muhammad Ali, to a lesser extent. Muhammad Ali was an incredibly incomplete fighter, but he was so smart in the ring, and so talented that he could overcome this.

                      No doubt.

At least he's in better shape than Duran, for now.
