Whittaker for me definitely. He fought better competition in my opinion over his career, so when someone says that he has several defeats, I say "just look at the difference in competition!"

Has Floyd ever faced an opponent with the caliber of Julio Cesar Chavez or Jose Luis Ramirez or Azumah Nelson?? Personally I don't think so. Sweet Pea would have boxed his head off all night. Floyd is small for a welter as it is but Whittaker always looked massive, even at welter.

Pernell Whitaker, he could fight on the inside, outside, throw combinations, he had the evasiveness of a freakin' rabbit, he had a good chin and he packed a punch.

Tiny little things set Floyd apart from Whitaker for me, things like the fact that Floyd is only considered evasive because he's a good judge of distance and timing, he's not naturally as slick or as quick as Whitaker, he doesn't mix it up as much as he should and he's vulnerable to the body.

              Great comparison

I'd say Floyd has the slight edge in power to roundup the package.

Pernell was smooth as silk and very elusive on the inside. Very intuitive.

I was surprised at one of the few power punching moments Sweetpea displayed against Cuban fighter Diobelys Hurtado. Hell of a KO.

              Knocked Chavez down too.

Much like RJJ, Pernell was a more naturally talented fighter than Floyd. You can't TEACH anyone to employ the defensive style that Pernell had as it was based on his matrix-like reflexes and was basically a self-tought style, but Floyd's shoulder rolling techniques were all tought to him and when I think of Floyd's style I can't help but think it's a cheap imitation of James' Toney.

Pernell threw more punches than Floyd and this is a major difference to me between the two. Pernell would jab, jab, work off the jab, do some crazy juke move, punch a guy behind his back.....whereas Floyd is like a surgeon and meticulously disects his opponenents. Floyd's game is based on smarts and using the right game plan to gain the V at the end of the night. Overall Pernell was a more complete fighter, but I think Mayweather uses his best assets in a more intelligent way.

i say sweet pea because he fought tougher guys in my opinion and he knew how to close guys out and get them out of there when he knew he had them easily beat. he's had way more exciting fights and sweet pea was a crowd pleasing fighter.............

Im a huge Mayweather fan,but its quite obvious Floyd's trying to replicate to a certain degree Pernell's defensive prowless.
