Good thread, good pairing of real tough guys. Rock's conditioning would decide the thing, but Galento was a pushover for nobody.

I guarantee another poster would have put 2 and 2 together and assumed I meant Galento. Because its so damn easy to find Marciano fighting someone his height. There has to be a word to describe someone who thinks they are out smarting someone but are in fact being out smarted themselves.

I posted those heights because I thought some might be interested in them,and for no other reason, [what other reason could I have?] So if anyone has outsmarted themselves it would be you, finding traps where none have been laid.

Speaking of which, there is precedent! None other than Bella Lugosi fought the giant mechanical octopus in Hollywood for Ed Wood during the filming of one of his B movies... But the results were later overturned because Bella had "doped" errr literally... consuming copious amounts of Demoral before (amnd after, as well as during) the match...

Jack feinted and set him up and then hit Galento with his classic left hook to the face, which split Galento’s lips. Dempsey then closed in with a short right that broke Tony’s nose. Blood sprayed on Jack’s tailored trousers. Two Ton Tony tried to cover up and begged Dempsey to stop. It was just sparring after all. Dempsey ignored him and continued to fire away.

Luckily for Galento, Lou Stillman rang the bell early to end the round. Tony was a complete, bloody, wreak.

Ray Arcel spoke up then and said:
“I quit, take this bum somewhere else… He’s driving us crazy around here.”

Dempsey spoke shortly to Galento:
“Now I’m through with you. You can find yourself another manager and trainer.”

Lou Stillman later recalled that everyone in the gym could hear Dempsey’s left hook land to Galento’s head. Ray Arcel said it was:
“a master showing an amateur how it is done.”


That's about as bad a KO + Humiliation as it gets, probably the reason U and Vitchy were worthless in the ring.
