How can one guy be certain Jeffries was considering fighting JJ before he was beaten by Hart and the other guy be certain he was always ducking him?

Anybody got any proof what Jeffries was thinking BEFORE the Johnson-Hart fight? Any firsthand or biographical accounts from Jeffries?

It's hard to understand why Jeffries would come out of a six year retirement, torture himself into shape, to fight a guy he was afraid of when he was at his peak back in 1904. (At a time when Johnson didn't look so good.) That really makes little sense.

IMO Considering that the 1910 took place one needs to show some serious proof that Jeffries was scared of JJ in 1904, (He wasn't scared to fight him in 1910) not just claim it, or depend on an embittered Billy Delaney quote to claim it.

Right now the most powerful piece of historical evidence either way is that Jeffries six years removed was willing to, and did, fight Johnson.
