Why was Ali's return from exile that much more successful than Tysons?

You're still an idiot. They went on the show in March of '67. Ali lost his boxing license the next month. So no, Ali could not have ducked Chamberlain. Wilt however did no show when the fight could be made. Facts!!Comment

Of course they are, but we all know he's not one to let facts get in the way of a good (BS) story.Comment

Wilt said that he talked-out the fight with his father and his father's negative reply convinced him to shake off the thought. But he went through with the Cosell show because it would give him power to negotiate.
It was a win-win-win, all three got air time and national attention.
I wouldn't be suprise if the contract was nothing more than a stage prop that Cosell pulled out just to keep the show lively, and Ali was probably legitimately surprise by its appearance becu6se Cosell was that type of guy.
The best part of the whole damn thing was watching 5' 4" Anglo Dundee try to measure Wilt's reach; a SNL skit begging to bust out.Comment

The whole damn thing was staged. Ali was giving a 'brother' leverage to negotiate with the NBA owners; rich white men. It was the 1960s and Ali was a racial activist.

I don't mean to pull age in you but the Dad's off hand irrelevant remark was based on how terrible Wilt was at free throws. In the early years he use to throw the ball underhand like a kid, later he shot overhand but moved back to the top of the key. He just kept throwing the ball too hard.Comment
