Dawson is a hell of a boxer, but he is not much better than Kessler in terms of boxing. I might be the only one who thinks this, but Dawson doesnt seem very tough. Kessler is good enough to tap Dawson's chin, at this stage of Dawson's career, he is entirely to chinny. He seems that he gets complacent and stands right in front of his opponents (adamek) which would be suicide vs. kessler.
Right now, Kessler by KO.
I didn't read all of the post, but Jones would get touched by Klitschko trying to get inside. Theres like a 10" height difference, Jones would caught by something big eventually.
I don't know if this has been discussed yet, but a fight that was actually confirmed on FNF in '03 was Jones vs. Sanders for unification. I dont know what happened, but that is an intriguing fight. It was close to happening.
A young, in-shape Corrie Sanders could move (1995)
He had hand speed and power as well. His fight against a still useful Bert Cooper showed how fast all around he was. Wasted talent, though.
I dont think that Mormeck's stamina is terrible, he just threw so many puches when Bell was lying on the ropes.
That fight was both a great and bizzare, I think Bell's made of rubber because he gets hit flush by a big puncher, and the impact has little effect on him
They threw punches like featherweights in the early rounds
I think I read in an interview with Steward that Sdunak did a lot of weight training, and that Steward didnt use weights in his training, focused more on sparring.
He hasnt looked as big since he began training with Steward
The third fight should be on the undercard of a big PPV fight. I know the fight is worthy of its own show, but its guaranteed to be exciting and is the kind of fight casual fans need to see to spark interest in boxing again.
If King's smart, hed put it on a super PPV card like he used to have
There's another article on ESPN Page 2, I don't have time to post the link, that bashes boxing. Its about how UFC has taken over and boxing is dead.
I think she says that UFC is a pitbull and boxing is an extinct dinosaur. The article was published a couple weeks ago.
I think that it is undeniable that in mainstream america, boxing is dying. There is nothing wrong with the sport inside the ring, there just needs to be an overhaul outside the ring.
I don't want this to happen, but I wonder how a death in the ring on national TV (Mancini v. Kim) would effect UFC and their viewing, just a thought.
I hate it when people talk shit about forrest now. i think his best years were taken away from him because of his shoulder injury.
he can still beat a limited fighter like baldy with his jab and movement.
if this fight happened, id pick forrest by ud.
Forrest was great but got derailed by injuries. if he was prime with no injuries, I think hed beat, maybe KO mayweather at 147. He had great timing.
Both fights were good, but i prefer the Miranda-Pavlik fight. The Bell-Mormeck fight was great through about five rounds, then the each became so exhausted (rightfully so),that they could not sustain the action. Bell was reduced to leaning on the ropes and mormeck would land a quick combo, then turn and run. This lasted the last third of the fight.
I like the Pavlik-Miranda fight because it started fast and ended with a bang. The Bell fight started fast, then fizzled out, in my opinion.
The problem is that it looks very sloppy and amatuerish.
To go back to your quote, UFC is not like a great chef who is a master at all cuisine. Its more like a line cook who can grill a decent steak, make okay sushi, not too good with italian, sufficient with thai. Id rather eat a perfect burger.
That was one of the best interviews on MMA Ive ever heard. Im a huge boxing fan and have grown to hate UFC, not MMA, for all of the same reasons that he mentioned. ED is 1000 times better than that idiot, not funny comedian Joe Rogan, i cant stand that guy.
I think the interviewer calls him "Al" at the end of the interview, pretty funny.
Fightnight,I dont think you think you were listening to what big AL said. He does not like UFC or Pride because the rules have made a bastard product. The hybrid styles that are used are most effective within the UFC rules.
I respect MMA, but i agree that UFC has become a glorified toughman contest
I think the reason why no one else has put things that way is because people, boxers, are always put into the position where they have to defend one or pick sides in an argument. Ed is a well educated, non-bias observer. He has no agenda, which is refreshing.
Im not sure if these two have been mentioned yet, they are not the hardest punchers of all time, but maybe the most underrated of late. Ray Mercer said in his interview that Morrison hit harder than anyone he had faced. Rahman said in an interview a few years back, after W. Klitschko was beaten, that Sanders hits a lot harder than anyone else hes been hit by.
Overall id say Louis. His punches seemed so much sharper and more accurate, just deadly
Peter by KO
Toney's game is to stand in front of his opponent and avoid flush shots. I dont think Peter will land many flush shots, but the guy is so powerful that any punch landed anywhere will have the chance of hurting Toney. I know that Toney is one of the toughest guys in recent history, but I think he'll have to use his legs and move around the ring against Peter. If Toney does that, he could easily outpoint him. If he stays on the ropes, Peter will be too strong and take him out.
It will be a pro DLH crowd. his fights are always huge.
I have a question, though. Is this the biggest fight of Oscar's career? hes had some huge fights. this is a career defining fight for floyd, but is it oscar's biggest?
hes fought trinidad when they were both undefeated. Mosley in LA, and moved up to fight Hopkins when he was #1 PFP. this is a huge fight, but in terms of an event, i think its another day the office for DLH.
Im wondering what is going to happen to the one who wins this fight. If Jones wins, does he fight Tarver. He has shown that he is scared of Tarver and will lose everytime they fight. If Hopkins wins, does he fight Tarver?? Hopkins already said he was retired, So is this his last fight? This is kinda weird to make this fight now.
These two are going to show up for the $$ and are not going to risk anything. Why do they even make this fight.
If Pemberton can use his reach ad. to keep Lacy off of him, he could win on points. He has some pop, i think it will be more competitive than the Reid fight.
Klitchko may look like he is very stiff and stands straight up, but everyone who fights him ends up saying how awkward he is and that he is extremely hard to hit. And that he looks a lot easier to hit on films. It is true that if a prime Tyson lands combos, he would be able to chop down Klit. I dont know if Tyson could change his gameplan if he had the same troubles that other fighters have had with the awkward Klitchko. This is something that people do not give him VK much credit for. I dont know who to pick, but it would be a hell of a fight.
This fight will go the distance. Klitchko is too cautious to allow Brewster to land a huge shot like he did on Krasniqi. Brewster doesnt have the brute strength that Peter has so he"ll have to be more accurate to land on Wlad.
As exciting as Brewster is, I dont think he'll be able to overcome the new cautious Klittchko. Better movement and the ability to keep Brewster off with the jab will lead to a Klitchko UD.
Unless Brewster lands a big shot like he did against Krasniqi, this will the distance
Thats a tough one at 140. Funny how Tzsyu (Mosley and DLH) and Pryor (SRL) didnt get to fight other big name fighters who passed them up.
Im from Cincinnati, so Im going to have to say the Hawk at Light Welter.
Ive had enough of Lampley. Everytime Taylor threw a punch, it was "A HUGE shot by Taylor!!", but he never actually landed clean. I know this doesnt have an effect on how the fight was scored, it just made it tough to watch the fight with the volume on. If you went by what was said by Lampley, youd think Taylor outlanded Hopkins 4 to 1.
Toney is going to frustrate the hell out of Rahman. If Ruiz was able to take Rock away from his plan with that terrible style, then Toney is going to shut him out and pick him apart. Rahman doesnt box as well as he did when he was young.
I agree with you Bozo, that everyone should ignore the Sanc. bodies and lead a great revolution against the powers that be, but I was just looking at from the actual fighters standpoint.
They're paying all these fees, fighting who they are told, then just getting fucked. I love the sport and hate where its gone. And as screwed as we feel as fans, it seems that the fighters themselves are getting fucked even harder.
Yea, fuck'em all, WBA,WBC,etc...
No, Maskaev didnt deserve a shot. But did Golota, Williamson, Toney, and so on.
This whole thing just pissed me off even more.
Its starting to look like only DK fighters are "worthy" of title fights.
Unify what? If its all a big joke, then what does it matter if someone unifies the titles? If they fight eachother, theyll be stripped and there will be nothing to unify.
The only one that matters is the Ring. Tarver and Johnson did the right thing.
I dont get it, Rahman played by the WBC rules, beat a few nobodies and the no. 2 contender Barrett, and gets the belt.
Maskaev goes the same route, beats as worthy of an oppenent as Sam was, but gets the shaft.
The whole thing is bogus. If its ok for Rahman to get the belt for going through the mandatories, then Maskaev should get a shot fot doing the same thing.
Yes, Toney is better than Maskaev, but the WBC should at least be consistant with this stuff.
Picture this. Ohio State and Oregon are better than WVU. West Virginia did what they were told and got a BCS bid. Either Oregon or OSU isnt going to the BCS. But suddenly, the BCS votes both teams in and WVU out because they are superior teams. Thats not quite fair to WVU, who won the BIg East and got the bid, now is it. Its the same situation with the WBC.
It cant work like that. As fucked as the system is, you must stick to it.
The fight was a great slugfest, and him being there ringside, or close to it, probably made it that more exciting. He may not get the chance to actually be at many fights due to his duties at espn.
Yeah, espn needs to cut into the thousands of hours of nfl coverage (draft, fantasy) and give boxing more love on the nightly broadcasts. It also hurts boxing that the highlights can never be shown on sportcenter, just the still shots-not very exciting
