Factors that make it seem that canelo is hesitant to fight GGG.
1. He is willing to drain himself back to 154 to distance himself from GGG.
2. Gave up his middleweight belt to "sort of" legitimized that he is not a middleweight--all because GGG awaits for him there.
3. Would rather fight no-names when GGG will clearly give him bigger purse than any of those.
imo Brook can only survive and possibly win a decision if:
1. Somehow he can handle GGG power or somehow suddenly GGG can't handle his power (the latter is highly unlikely).
2. His stamina is up for it for 12 rounds.
Fulfill factor one and he can qualify to factor two and from there brook's skill and speed will take over and very possibly win decision taking into account that they will be fighting at brook's home turf.
Otherwise, there will be no escape, GGG's skill is built to hunt those runners, his unusually powerful jab and excellent ring cutting goes hand and hand in luring you into his trap wherein he can greatly control and manipulate the distance and pummel you with his dizzying array of powerful punches to the body and head--both equally debilitating.
This is the reason why as long as he is fighting in a weight division he is extremely comfortable with, it's almost impossible to beat him. You can't run comfortably because of the above reason, you can't clinch him comfortably because he has sufficient strength to ward you off like murray tried to and because he can handle opponent's power comfortably too he is able to be at a distance consistently wherein he can concentrate and manipulate his powerful punches and not worry about what the other boxer is doing.
This perspective makes it a lot clearer to me that Kovalev won.
Found a nice uppercut
Ridiculous ward trying to go in, in a straight line like a blind mummy. He paid the price though.
Ward may have stolen a win in this fight but he also lost respect from a lot of fans and experts out there. For me, it's not more about the decision but rather about his performance, I've never seen ward hit with so many accurately jabs and power punches so consistently over a 12-round fight. Even the bumbling, stammering floyd sr. said it straight right after the fight without even flinching that ward is no p4p number one. no way, you could see in his face the disgust and total lack of respect for ward now. It's not just about the win, it's about how he look so ordinary in the most important fight of his life. Kovalev described ward as just a simple fighter not special one as many people believed. Why? Look at how many clean punches ward ate. It doesn't matter what the decision is, you still gotta earn respect at the end of the day.
Look what Morales did in their first fight. He stepped to him with stiff jabs and had pac looking like a deer caught in a headlight. Morales consistency backed him up and landed first.
Just a reminder how great Morales is.
I remember that fight, one of the best pacquiao fight is the first fight with the great el terrible morales. By the end of the fight, It is when he realized that he is a one trick pony and one dimensional which signaled his evolution and started training his right hand with freddy roach and then on the second half of their rematch he suddenly discovered how to use and time people with it. From then on he improved drastically. Now on his final career run after getting ktfo by marquez, he has turned into a super counter puncher with a touch of elusiveness and guess what he is extremely good at it too.
hahaha why is everyone so surprised this has been discussed long ago here, there and everywhere, all ward has to do is survive in the fight and the a-side/hometown decision will take effect. lol I'm not surprised mofos.
This is very bad for canelo, he has to dehydrate himself to 154 just to avoid GGG he is the a-side and he made himself suffer like that again, smith is not floyd who brings money on the table; so it's totally not worth dehydrating yourself, but you can blame it to GGG instead, just so to legitimize the excuse that canelo isn't middleweight to avoid him, he dehydrated himself, put his body at risk. Look, when you do all that just to make the weight, that's not your "natural" weight. I guess this will be the last time we'll ever see canelo fight at 154 unless pacquiao suddenly wanted to fight him next, it's totally not worth killing himself to make weight.
A lot of questions:
Is ward even skilled enough to make the difference in the fight? Kovalev is seen more as a typical brawler because of his menacing punching power, but it is totally misleading, kovalev is a skilled boxer himself. This is not your typical brawler pitted against pure boxer.
Is kovalev strong enough to prevent andre ward from his usual clinching tactics? Would he even allow it if he does have the strength?
We know that ward is a faster than kova, but, is he really much faster than kovalev to make a difference in the fight?
Ward is marketed as the smarter one, will that show against kovalev who is deceptively smart too?
If ward is hit by one of those bombs, is his chin sturdy and body sturdy enough to handle the blows?
There are a lot of questions in my mind which makes this fight quite interesting. So I pray to the boxing gods that no training injuries or other mishaps will happen en-route to the actual fight.
Kovalev is not the master boxer you're pretending he is...not by a long shot.
Take away his power....does he still win?
Nope..
Power won't be a factor in the Ward fight...defense and stamina will.:boxing:
Kovalev is getting his ass kicked badly.
Who even said kovalev is a master boxer? You're the only one saying it I suppose. Kovalev is a combination of puncher-boxer he is not a master boxer that you are saying.
What drama is this? Not everyone is a racist here. But if you think it's all about the color then you are the racist in here, you just don't realize it. Some people just like to express their opinion on the subject, whether their opinion is to your liking or not, that's not being racist, that's their opinion as a person. jeez a racist who don't realize they are..
The question is a bit tricky because mayweather never really fought a prime fighter while loma has already beaten 2 prime fighters in just 8 fights. Canelo is the one and only supposedly prime fighter floyd fought but clearly canelo wasn't on prime because even now canelo is only on the way to his peak/prime, his body hasn't even matured yet.
If the rematch won't happen, it's not good on ward's image in the end, because all people can remember is how easily he can be outbox in that fight, the jabs he ate like a buffet and the karate palm strike that did him in the second round. I don't think ward want to end it that way, he is a proud man and everyone can see that. He would want a rematch and try to utterly dominate kovalev to erase any doubt that he is in contention as the best pound for pound in his era, otherwise, all those years of cultivating respect and honor to his ability is in risk of just withering away just like that.
If there's a knockout in this fight, it could horn knocking out pacquiao, pacquiao at most can stop this guy due to punishment just like before. Pacquiao is just too small for welterweight that he keeps on insisting fighting on, this midget had to eat extra calories just to be in welterweight, he's not suppose to even put a dent to true welterweights yet alone knock the **** them out. Even all 140 lbs looks bigger than him. Unless horn turned out to have a glass chin there's no friggin way. There's gonna be knockdown but he's going up like algieri. Every ****ing body is bigger than this midget.
Well pacquiao is at a stage where father time is about to visit him. Anytime now he would just suddenly malfunction and seemingly can't pull the trigger anymore this phenomena is well known. Suddenly you're a second too late to everything you use to do well. Will it happen to one of the greatest of our generation in this fight? Who knows. But he's definitely on a ticking clock where anything wrong can happen anytime.
Man Broner is not going down without a fight this time--No freaking way. Brother got a pride too you know. He is the youngest 4 division champ, like how many 4 division champs in the history? there are only less than 20 I think.
A fighter with a lot of pride and in his absolute physical prime won't accept to be treated as a mere tune-up fight for a frigging 40-year old fighter. Look for Broner to swing everything that he's got. This is what his camp is telling him now. It's do or die!
No way man. The probability of that is close to zero. Broner has a combination of great chin plus great recovery makes him almost invulnerable to any lights out punches.
See this is the kind of fight that we must see from someone like Crawford to help solidify his greatness, it's one thing to look good to an average guy--it's another thing if you can do it to an All-Star caliber opponent. Timothy Bradley, in his peak, if you can't knocked the ****k out this guy and you don't have the proper work rate and insufficient in skill, you're in hell and you're gonna lose 9 times out of 10. He will just bury you with his work rate.
Timothy Bradley's only weakness is that his power is average, everything else is ****in on point, his power is not as low as Paulie Malignaggi he can still hurt you bad but it is the weakest link in his game which is easily counterbalanced by his great chin and his great great recovery. He is blessed with seemingly unlimited stamina--his work rate is superb. He can lead, he can fight on back foot, he can do everything. Bradley is probably going down as one of the most underrated in this era and he could have fought in any era and do very well.
Is there any history between the two that I don't know of? As far as I know Al Bernstein is one of the most respected, most evenly keeled non-biased and most knowledgeable analyst and commentator this sport has ever seen--he is pound for pound ATG is that genre. I'll take one Al Bernstein more than 100 judges simultaneously judging a fight. That is of course an exaggeration but that's how he knows his stuff more than anybody else.
Not gonna happen. Even if Crawford can't for some miracle stop or K.O. this guy, he will be out-boxed may be not by a wide margin at worst, but Khan is that shot now. He is not at his optimum be it psychologically or physically. He's just shot at such a young age.

Won’t happen. You must think PAC is stupid. He didn’t sign with Haymon to be a gatekeeper.
Not out of the question. But superstars and former superstars rarely think of themselves as a gatekeeper ever. It's only several years after when they realized after watching themselves on a video how slow they've become, how dulled their reflex have become and their reactions to punches is entirely different on what they felt on that moment. Delusions are not rare on these ATGs, they always believed they can turn back time just one more time.
Or Pacquaio Vs. M. Garcia (Better fight)
It already has history between camps..
The oldschool Wildcard/RGBA beef, Too bad Freddie got fired
Sure, but Spence or Crawford have a better chance of winning in a dominating fashion than Garcia.
Problem is Pacquiao has a way of dulling everybody in pre-fights. Only Brandon Rios and Antonio Margarito did some trash talk by calling him 'puto', but not in his face though. I hope broner can do some exaggerated stuffs, would help selling the fight for sure.
Rest assured that Spence will fight Pacquiao before his PBC contract is up by hook or by crook. Al Haymon will make sure that, the opportunity for the torch to be passed is not missed, he won't make the same mistake as Arum did when pacquao asked for 20 million to fight Crawford, Arum would have gained more than that if Crawford had pacquiao's head by now, that was a tremendous mistake by bob to lose some money in order to gain more in the future, a calculated risk. Al will make sure this will never happen, he will pay whatever is needed for Spence to fight Pac and if he wins, he would gain tremendous negotiation advantage against anyone in the future and yes that includes against Crawford.
There is only one caveat, in order for the torch to be rightfully passed, the challenger must leave any doubt and win in a dominating fashion, a Jeff horn win is not gonna work, it should be the same manner as de la hoya beating Chavez sr. to a pulp or pacquiao beating de la hoya from pillar to post etc.. it should be in a similar manner or the mystique won't be there. Which Spence and Crawford is more than capable at this moment. The timing is right and perfect, pacquiao is ripe for the picking. Thank boxing God for pacquiao still giving these young guns one more chance to beat him before he fades into the sunset.
Bradley was always been ripped and has this body builder type of physique ever since he was fighting, nothing changed on his body as far as I ca see, there was no 'sudden' great body transformation phenomena that is well known for steroid users--his fighting shape has been the same throughout his career. Of course when he is not fighting, he would gain fat.
How much money would Haymon have to pay Pacquiao to take this fight? It makes all sense in the world for him to feed him to Spence soon to build his star. This is how boxing works when passing the torch.
Either way, after Garcia, Spence needs to fight either Pacquiao or Porter in the summer. Then go after Crawford or Thurman end of the year. 2019 has to be the year he makes a real leap into stardom.
It would take a lot, Manny surely won't go down easily either in the ring or business wise, but the risk is well worth it. If Spence can do his job properly--perform utter destruction--which to me is the more likely ending scenario when they meet--there is little to no doubt PBC will breakthrough and Spence will command an otherworldly respect he deserves, every fight from here on wards is pure gold in his and Al's pocket.
