Before GGG, he fought Trout when no one else wanted to (Trout had just dominated Cotto) and then fought Lara when no one else wanted to either. I think it's a combination and I think Oscar is more of a road block than Canelo is. The guy has fought true threats before, although nothing like GGG. Wheras while Golovkin hasn't fought a fighter exactly like Canelo really, Canelo still poses no real threat to him because he brings nothing to the table Golovkin hasn't seen before.
