I know Floyd will make adjustments during the fight like he always does, but I still think it will be tough to catch him because of Manny's speed and in and out movement.
Floyd size will not matter. Manny has already proven that by fighting Cotto and other bigger guys he fought.
Mayweather is not Cotto. Mayweather will use his size to his advantage in which Cotto did not.
I have a lot of respect for Cotto. One of my favorite fighters but he has been beat up alot quite recently. Hopefully Steward rejuvinated this fighter.
I think this fight comes down to game plan and execution. This is a very competitive fight. Whomever can follow their game plan best and not fall into the others traps will win.
Foreman can keep distance and outbox Cotto all night. Cotto can cut off the ring and take Foreman out by the body. We'll see how it plays out.
Let me change my statement. It was competitive in the early rounds. It was embarassing to see Ortiz quit like that.
He would've been KO'd. We'll see what happens with the kid, but I don't see much
They won't divide and conquer the division. Ortiz doesn't impress me. Khan will be a threat. What I think you mean is that GBP wont put them against each other.
Obviously. You don't take 2 of your own prospects and let them fight. You completely backtrack ones career. It might be the right fight in the future (which it wont because Ortiz wont make it as far as Khan) but you never match 2 sheltered fighters like that while you can still make moneyoff them.
I got Floyd winning. Manny has fought bigger guys but no one like Floyd.
I see it as a slightly more competitive fight than Floyd-JMM. Manny is more comfortable, strong, and quick at 147 than JMM was at 143, but I still see Floyd being able to handle Manny in similar style (not so one-sided) as JMM.
Don't get me wrong. I respect Manny and his fight game, but I see Floyd as the bigger and smarter fighter. If two fighters are about equally matched, I'd always go with the one with the size advantage.
Manny can move all night but Floyd puts on these angles that makes him difficult (not impossible) to hit. Floyd will pick his shots and land what he needs to. Pacman opens himself a good amount and is open to be tagged by Floyds counters.
Ortiz and Khan are GBP's 2 rising stars. Ortiz is going to fight another washed up name to put on his resume, not Maidana. Maidana beat that ass the entire fight and made Ortiz quit. If Ortiz didn't quit he wouldve been Ko'd.
Is Khan fighting Casamayor? Dangerous opponent, but past his prime. As far as I know, Khan is going to England to have a title defense. It wont be against anyone dangerous.
Neither Khan or Ortiz are ready for Bradley or Alexander.
Zab Judah is going to be on the comeback trail too.
I see the 140 division split in 3 sections. 1. Alexander and Bradley are the kings, pretty untouchable by anyone but each other right now
2. You have guys like Urango, Maidana, Peterson. Big tests for anyone before they fight Alexander or Bradley
3. You have Khan, Ortiz, Judah, Maibuza. Up and coming names that in time will be dangerous for the top 2 tiers.
I don't think both Khan and Ortiz will live up to the hype. If I had to choose one, its Khan but he is going to keep fighting tailor made opponents till Bradley and Alexander lose some steam.
Floyd fought some very tough fights when coming up. Now since he is on top, he can choose what fight is right for him. He has very carefully constructed his legacy, but is not a ducker. He has been in several wars and proved victorious. He is the best boxer of the decade.
If Mosley would fight like he did against Margacheato... then it would be a good fight. The Mosley who fought Mayweather should look to fight someone like Andre Berto or Luis Collazo if he doesnt want to get completely embarrassed.
Cotto looked good against an overhyped Foreman. Cotto looked good compared to his last few fights. He is a great warrior but not the best boxer. He will lose again to Pacquaio, to any top competition at 147 and 154 right now. Maybe another camp or two with Steward will change this slightly but not entirely.
He should look to fight another bum before anything else. Then he should look towards Andre Berto or Tim Bradley before mentioning Pacquaio or Mayweather
Cotto def deserves another crack @ pac cuz Pac aint beat his ass enough last Nov. Heres the promo: Pacquiao/Cotto:Suicide..lol
Cotto was competitive for a few rounds. Then Pacquaio beat that ass. Shouldve been stopped way earlier than the 12th.
No need for rematch unless there are no other options for either fighter
It is said that Williams will be fighting at 147 in the fall.... I think this would be a decent matchup. Berto is a skilled fighter, would like to see him fight Williams.
I didnt include Khan and Ortiz because there is no way they will be in it. My goal for this thread was to see actual combinations of what the 140 tourny COULD be.
I think Berto is being underestimated... I still dont think he would win but he is a very talented fighter. I think it would be much more competitive than most peolpe think
