He has 1 decent win in his hometown.
Nobody else aside from Kessler is worth a damn on the world class level. That was always the criticism against him. Goosen was bringing him along SLOW...
Lets see where he ends up after this tournament before we throw "great" around.
Man up Coach, don't jump on the bandwagon that fast. I know he likes God just like you but that don't mean he's great.
YET.
Ok. Fine. But he beat a world Champion that had ONLY lost to Joe Cal. Yea, Goosen was bringing him along slow, but what does that now mean being in this tourney with the best 168lbers in the world? Nothing. Not only that, but he is the champ Jack. Respect him in that sense. And don't talk to me about "jumping on a bandwagon". I've been following Dre since he was in the amateurs, back when he won the gold medal in 04. I'm not a "new" fan, Jack.
Green has no chance to win in Oakland
Ward refused to fight in the tournament unless he got "ALL" his fights in his home town! How did he get that? Why not the others? Green will be cheated! Ward will have his own personal referee and judges! His home town, commentators, etc. All of Ward's opponents will be cheated as well. Who gave him that advantage? What if ALL boxers refused to fight unless all their fights were in their home town?! No more fight period! Green will have to fight Ward and Ward's referee! Ward's ref allowed him to get by with the famous "Billy Goat" head butt, yes, Ward's ref believes that head butts are legal as long as they come from Ward. Green will have an uphill battle! Ward can punch low, head butt, elbow, cuff, you name it. Green will get disq. if he knocks Ward out. I guess Ward's personal ref will pick Ward up off the canvas and raise his hand! :boxing:
Wow! I didn't realize every Andre Ward fight had to be in Oakland. That's some bullshit!
Why 51% to 49%? What intangables gives Green the edge against Ward other than power? I think that Wards power might be getting overlooked in this bout. Lets take a common opponent(I'm not using Miranda for obvious reasons); Jerson Ravelo, by no means a world beater but a solid opponent nonetheless. They both got rid of him within 8 rds. Also Ward has faced the better comp at 168, WORLD class comp, so I really would like to know how you got Green with a slight edge in this fight.
I agree, it is. But Ward is going to be right in Green's face. Watch what I tell you all.
Its amazing how quickly a guy becomes a "great" fighter.
Ward is 2 fights past fighting a guy called Sugar Poo and now he's "great".
Why? Cuz' he beat a washed up Miranda and beat Kessler in one of the ugliest most poorly reffed fights in the history of boxing in his hometown?
GTFO.
Ward is still a borderline prospect. Get off his sack until he actually starts stringing solid wins together.
Borderline prospect? Jack, give it up.

dumbest / most ignorant post ive ever read!
:FlagCanad
Yes, he did--85%-90% of his colon was removed. Not sure why, he said in an interview it was paralyzed but they don't remove most of your colon to provide an excuse for losing a fight, and photos of him at that time show him looking--unwell, thin, wan, for someone that conditioned. I've only seen him beat Tarvis Sims, no other fight; I think it's too close to call, but a Green KO wouldn't shock me at all. I guess maybe I'd give Green a 51% chance, Ward 49% in this one.

:FlagCanadI'm not that familiar with Green TBH. But didn't he have a fairly big surgery after the Miranda fight?
Still, as I said earlier, it would be a gigantic upset if Green was to become the first fighter in the s6 to win in the opponents backyard.

All he has is a puncher's chance, I say he loses.

I would like nothing more than Green to win via knockout, but I can't see it happening. Green is one of the good guys in the sport and hasn't always had a fair ride to the top. I think Ward will be too quick and too disciplined, but Green might be hungrier and that desire can on occasions be enough.
Yes, plus that fight was at Middleweight not Super-Mid....... people always forget that.
Actually the fight was at a catchweight, not at Middleweight.
People always forget that.
They also forget than Green fought at 162 lbs about 6 months previous against Anthony Bonsante and won by KO in 5 and said he felt great at the lower weight.
Didn't he have some major issues with his stomach in the Miranda fight?
Yes, plus that fight was at Middleweight not Super-Mid....... people always forget that.
Um his issue was big enough for him to require major surgery involving several feet of his colon being removed ..
Wow...he shouldn't even be fighting with that kind of surgery...no wonder he looks pissed..lol. He shouldn't even be in the tourney, he must have pulled some levers or know somebody to get into the tourney. I bet anybody 250k or more this guy will lose.
Especially if Ward knows about this, he will target that tummy and down he will go.
Um his issue was big enough for him to require major surgery involving several feet of his colon being removed ..
Is that also why he failed to knock out Rubin Williams?
Or is there a different excuse for that?
I don't know about "major", he passed all the pre fight tests and physicals after all.
It wasn't a "major" problem until he lost and needed an excuse for a pretty sad performance.
Even if you do give him the benefit of the doubt on that one it still doesn't explain why a guy who supposedly has so much power could not knock out the punching bag named Rubin Williams. After all Epifanio Mendoza, Jeff Lacy, ANDRE WARD, Eduard Gutneckt, Chris Henry and some guy named Les Sherrington were all able to do it.
It doesn't explain why Green needed 7 rounds to get rid of the ancient Carl Daniels when Middleweight prospect Andy Lee did it in 3 after only 7 pro fights.
It doesn't explain why he failed to knock out a completely overmatched and untested Tarvis Simms in his past fight.
Green's reputation as a puncher comes solely from the Codrington fight. People seem to think that he has some special power but the fact of the matter is that he doesn't.
