I like Adamek in this one, and agree with the OP that he brings a lot to the HW division. I think he would be better off had he stayed at CW, but I understand the move to HW ($, bigger fights).
I used to hang out with my girlfriend all the time. Then I started betting on boxing, because my girlfriend sometimes won't f.uck me, but betting on boxing will always, ALWAYS, f.uck you.
Dont you agree that he has access to coaches and equipment that these other guys can only dream of? He comes from a sports family and his big brother fights on the world stage. There was a reason he wasnt picked for the team. I think if he wasnt amir khans brother he would get no publicity and he will be a nobody in the pro's. He not only lost but he lost big, 9-3 is a huge score in Amateur it wasnt a close decision.
9 - 3 isn't "losing big" in the amateurs.
Maybe I missed something, but I thought Bradley looked great last night.
People saying he shouldn't be calling out Pacquiao or Mayweather-- why not? He's one of the top 10 pound for pound fighters in the world. Why can't he call out the THE top pound for pound fighter in the world? I'm not saying he would win, but he's earned the right to call out and fight those guys.
The speed difference between lightweights and welterweights is insane. Cotto is by no means a slow WW and was made to look like a sloth. Clottey also has some of the fastest hands in the division and looked like a turtle against Pacquiao. If you ask me Pacquiao is quite a bit slower at welterweight, but he is still so much faster than natural welterweights that he looks to be just as fast to many.
I dare anyone to say Pacquiao now is as fast as the one who fought Marquez, Morales, and Barerra, he just isn't.
Also the fact that he is growing into the weight will be his downfall now.
I don't think Cotto looked like a sloth. He was matching Pacquiao until he got hurt and dropped. Then he went into his defensive/survival mode.
Clottey can put his punches together well, but you have to actually... uh... throw punches to do that. His footwork is slow and plodding though.
They just don't want to be bother by the Marquez call outs or by other JWW wanting fights at that weight. This is short (Freddie saying that) for "either you gonna come up to 147 to face us or there is no fight".
Bradley called him out at 147. Just sayin...
What I don't understand is why people seemed legitimately UPSET with Dawson after he lost. From the HBO team, to boxing writers, to people on twitter and boxing forums. Why are you angry at him? He fought. He lost. It happens. I don't see what there is to get upset about.
I feel like no matter who the broadcast team is, people will find something to bitch about.
With that said, I can't stand the HBO team, outside of Steward. Kellerman is alright, he gets a lot more shit than he deserves, but he's definitely a fan boy. At least he's passionate about it.
I really like Showtime when they have Tarver on their team. Great insight expressed in a simple, but clear way. Sounds like he's been doing it forever.
I looked Munoz's boxrec page because I'd never heard of him. In 24 fights he's fought 4 opponents with winning records. He lost to one of them. The over/under for this fight should be at 1.
As for Barrera vs. Soto. I don't really care. It's one of those fights I might download a few days later if I come across it and people say it's a good fight.
Also, Paul Williams (and every other elite pro fighter) has sparred literally thousands of rounds against hundreds of sparring partners. Just something to think about.
I don't like Mora, and I understand where Oscar is coming from
Mora is fighting in the biggest fight of his career by far in this fight. Forrest might have been a better fighter than Mosley, but Mosley is the bigger name for sure, and Mora doesn't have a name that comes close on his resume. He should have made weight the first time, no problems.
I remember when Mora was supposed to fight Jermain Taylor, when Taylor was the undisputed middleweight champ. The fight was gonna be in Arkansas, and Mora said the fight wasn't on a big enough stage for him. The guy had NO names on his resume at that point, didn't own a fringe belt or anything, and turned down a shot against THE man.
We'll never know for sure, but Cotto fought the wrong fight. He was extremely tight and used up a lot of excess energy with wasted lateral movement when he just got trapped on the ropes anyway.
If he was going to fight Margarito on the inside, he should have met him in the middle of the ring, not on the ropes.
Great fighter who could have done more. He would have beaten guys like Carbajal and Chiquita IMO.
From a technical and fundamentals standpoint here's near the top of the list.
People are disappointed because Pac-Floyd didn't happen. Despite the fights that have happened and will happen, THE fight not happening is a big blow.
And it's the way the fight didn't happen, not just the fact that it didn't.
It's been a so-so year for the sport. It happens. 09 was a great year. So was 08. But lulls happen.
Yeah, I saw some of that in the Olympics, where a guy would get hit by a clean shot but didn't look hurt at all, the referee went and gave the guy that got hit a standing 8 count anyway.
Amateur fights were great in the 80s weren't they? I remember watching some of the amateur fights that happened back then and they were really great, if they were pro fights they would've gotten consideration for FOTY. Nowadays, the amateur fights are really hard to watch, I don't really bother with them anymore.
Check out some local shows. The skill level might not be as high, but the kids always go hard.
well, theres some 70s punk that dont sound like sex pistols, such as the ramones and the clash.
The first Clash album, early Gen X, Cock Sparrer, Cockney Rejects, Angelic Upstarts, The Business, Blitz... All blow the Sex Pistols out of the water.
Danny Jacobs appears to be the best of that bunch...I think he can bounce back...I heard a rumor he may find some new handlers...
Just goes to show you the pros and amateurs are 2 different things...and the media overhypes NY fighters a little as well...
If Sadam stays focused I think he can contend...I've heard he can give it to Kendall Holt in sparring...
I think Ali is the best of the group, with the exception of Malignaggi and Collazo who have already made it to a very high level in the pros.
These kids get too comfortable in NY. They live in their own world, and are made to feel like stars before they really accomplish anything.
Again, Luis Collazo aside (Malignaggi is from a different gym, but working there now apparently), if you go through and list every pro to come out of the Havoc team, you'll find a bunch of national amateur champions and Olympians, and all of them have come up short when they step up to fight b-level pro fighters.
He went to the same place as all the other Coney Island/Havoc Boxing team members.
I don't get how those guys all made it to the highest level in the amateurs, but consistently come up short in the pros. That team is like the Bermuda triangle. Get out while you can, Sadam Ali.
