You’re absolutely correct in pointing out that Marquez vs. Pacquiao at welterweight is suicide for the Mexico City master. Prior to the Diaz rematch I thought a third fight made sense if it could be made at 140 pounds, but after seeing Marquez weigh-in at 133½ pounds and perform well I’m not only convinced that he’s not a welterweight, I’m positive that he wouldn’t be himself at junior welterweight. Hell, most LIGHTWEIGHT contenders couldn’t make 133 pounds if they starved themselves. Freddie Roach told me recently that Pacquiao has grown to be a small welterweight over the past year. In Freddie’s words, “Pacquiao has to skip meals to make 140."

Pacquiao only weighs a few lbs more on fight night than he did at 130, people that are saying that he eats more to stay at WW are talking out of their ass.
If he did what most top level boxers do I think he could make 135 still.
Now he doesn't have to make weight at all for WW and has to only skip a couple meals for 140.
pacquiao can make 135.
it's just a question of if he wants to.
if delahoya had khtfo at 147 or hatton khtfo at 140 , manny would be fighting at 135 right now.
if pac will just eat 3 times a day he could easily made 140 lbs while floyd even will not eat for a whole day still he couldn't make a 144 lbs as evidence in the marquez fight.
You see Tony, I'm about to school you in the art of not being a fat guy who sits at his computer all day.
Pacquiao eats 7,000 calories during training camp to MAINTAIN his weight. Athletes who work out 4 hours a day, 5-6 days a week are burning a ton of calories, possibly up to 8,000 a day.
Every BOXER who cuts weight to fight at a certain division skips meals in order to make the contracted weight. They're burning more calories than they consume in order to lose the weight. They also have to dehydrate in order to lose the water-weight before the weigh-in.
Pacquiao doesn't have to cut weight anymore, so he has the luxury of being able to eat whatever he wants in order to maintain his fighting weight.
If there was a super-lucrative fight at 140, all he would have to do is cut out some meals and he'd make 140 easy. It's really not that hard, and it's far less extreme than what some boxers do.
For what it's worth, Floyd fans, Mayweather does the same thing. That's why you see him doing seemingly outlandish crap on 24/7 like eating candy and going to fast food restaurants. If he was just sitting on his ass like you, that would be absurd. But he doesn't have to watch his diet because he's a fighting machine who trains every day and fights at his walking around weight, so he has the luxury of being able to eat whatever he wants.
this is why pac and floyd always will have the advantage over all fighters, they are fighting at a weight were they dont have to loose much weight at all. then they force guys to come in at catchweights :nonono:
Don't bother. Most people here won't understand.
Green k for your effort though.
you could have studied Nutrition (like I did) and these experts here would know more than you.
They're in their teens or really early 20s, so of course they know more than older people who have DONE shit and have experience. They have wiki and google, after all.
"cutting meals" is an ambiguous statement. To athletes and bodybuilders, a protein shake with a banana and some tuna is a "meal."
Some weight gain supplements easily have 50+ grams of protein, and 600 calories per serving. 50 grams is what is recommended for most average people per day! 600 Calories is like having a footlong deli sub (turkey, pastrami, provolone, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, etc....).
It's absolutely no surprise that Manny would have to cut down intake to make 140....he's eating 8000 cals to maintain a 145 3/4lb weigh-in (Clottey fight). That's ridiculous!
But no....NSB posters know more. It's getting harder and harder to wanna post on these boards every day.

This is what happens when you talk too much. Manny having to skip meals to make 140 is complete and utter bullshit. Why would he have to stuff his face with 8,000 calories to make WW then?

Pacquiao fight night weight is only a few lbs heavier than when he was at 130, so his diet surely isn't much different he just doesn't have to drain himself before the weigh in.
If he did what most top level boxers do I think he could make 135 still.
Now he doesn't have to make weight at all for WW and has to only skip a couple meals for 140.
He could make 135 easy. If for some reason Juan Manuel Lopez became the biggest money maker in the sport and demanded to face Pacquiao at a catchweight of 135, he could make that. He would have to cut down to probably 3 small meals a day and dehydrate the week of the fight (like most boxers do), but he could do it.
Pac walks around at about 150, maybe 155 at his heaviest. When he trains to get down to 147, he basically eats what he wants for 8 weeks and then cuts out the protein shakes in his final week of camp. If he wanted to get to 140, he'd have to cut down on the size of his meals and skip the protein shakes for the full camp. That's what Roach meant.
Of course, the keyboard gym rats here would have you believe that Pacquiao actually walks around at 126 and fills up on steroids for 8 full weeks to get to 147.
This is what happens when you talk too much. Manny having to skip meals to make 140 is complete and utter bullshit. Why would he have to stuff his face with 8,000 calories to make WW then?
Skip meals? He said he was eating five times a day to get to 147, sounds like lies, I bet he doesnt miss a dose of his special injections.
It's probably more like 7-8 meals, with 2 full course meals and 2 small meals through the day, with protein shakes after waking up, after working out and before bed. Pac could probably cut down to 140 by having 5 small meals a day and cutting down on the protein.
Of course, you're in the same group that thinks Pacquiao is eating all these meals to gain weight, so the last paragraph went over your head.
i think 126 he was probably around 135 or a little more than that.
pac didn't really put on that much weight except at 112 (he was a huge flyweight) and 130.
Yeah, when I watched the Sasakul fight, Pacquiao looked as if he was 2 weight divisions bigger. Sort of like what most boxers look like against Calderon.
He really did look huge against some of his 122 opponents too. Not so much at 126 and up, even though he was rehydrating. I really do think most of his weight is on his legs though and that's why people haven't noticed that he was pretty big for some of the weight classes.
You know almost every big lightweight comes in around 145-150lb range fight night...ala a Jose Louis Castillo and other fighters. Hell I have even see both Rocky Juarez and Barrios both come in 146lb for a super featherweight showdown. I think people understand the difference between the weight people come in for a weigh in and their actual fight night weight but they flame just to fit an agenda.
almost everyone cuts weight.
people just can't grasp the concept of it though.
they think "the guy weighed 147 fight night , he's a welterweight."
nope.
he WOULD'VE been a welterweight back in the 20's , 30's , 40's.
but welterweights now come in around 160 if not more these days.
funny you mentioned castillo.
i remembered watching a castillo fight on hbo a long , long time ago. probably about 8-9 years ago. don't remember the opponent.
jim lampley commented , "LOOK AT THE SIZE OF THESE LIGHTWEIGHTS"
then larry merchant replied , "YEAH. BACK THEN THEY CALLED THEM MIDDLEWEIGHTS."
castillo was about 155-156 fight night. his opponent was about the same. around 154-155 if i remember correctly.
He actually has a point though.
When Pacquiao was in his Jr. Lightweight days, he would weigh in at 130 and rehydrate to 144-145-146-147.
I don't remember his rehydrating weight at 122 and 126, but they're double digit weight gains as well. More than likely 14 pounds. Until 140 Pacquiao has always been huge for the weight, it's just that you can't see it because it's in his legs.

You are a FLOMO!!! Manny was never the bigger man, he is a midgett!
BOY is just scared!!

se were all the 130 fighters.
even "tiny" jmm was coming in around 140 fight night.
