I agree with Arum, ha a 1st
what GBP is doing with Malignaggi vs Mosley is pretty clear IMO. they're setting up Malignaggi or Mosley for Garcia.
the WBC has ordered the winner of Garcia/Judah to fight Lucas Matthysse, Golden Boy isn't going to let that happen. what going to happen is if Danny Garcia wins he's going to vacate and move up to 147 and fight Malignaggi or Mosley for a title rather then face Matthysse. bet on it.
Hopkins on HBO if a spectacle and we all know it. he's 48 fighting for the IBF title against Cloud, yeah we get it, "it's potential history"
will the fight be a stinker? of course but it's Hopkins and people will tune in because it's a spectacle.
I don't understand what anyone sees in Vasquez...in reality both Vasquez and Burns are pretty bad fighters. Broner is calling Burns out cuz its an easy fight with big money, he can just go to his backyard and rip him apart, he can do the same to Vasquez but who's gonna pay him for that? Yall acting like Vasquez is the saviour and the chosen one to beat Broner and he's being avoided and you're stupid if you think that
Broner's career isn't gonna start until he goes to 140 so don't get your hopes up, at 140 there's plenty of names to test him so get your popcorn ready cuz the most annoying but most talented dude in the game is about to enter the most stacked young and heated division in the game!
Vazquez is is a great fighter. his talent isn't in handspeed and power but those aren't the only things that make you good. Vazquez has a great jab, he controls space and has great timing. plus he has awkard movement which isn't easy to do deal with.
he'd be a problem for Broner because of his style. one of the biggest weakness of the philly shell defence is a boxer with a mobile jab. plus Broner has such a wide stance that it limits his mobility. that's why Broner fights guys who just come foward.
Vazquez would make Broner come to him because if he just stood there he'd get turned and popped from the outside. just look at what Ponce de Leon did against Broner with a jab and Vazquez is better than de Leon.
Vazquez's biggest problem is that he doesn't have a style mexicans like so he doesn't have a big following.
Who has Vasquez actually beat? A close s.d vs Breidis Prescott is his best win! Burns wins this by wide decision, his footwork, size and power will win the day
don't rely on boxrec. Vazquez was dropped in the 1st and totally dominated the rest of the fight. the judging was terrible Dave Moretti's score card was criminal. the right guy won but all the cards were terrible.
Vazquez's only real loss IMO was against Bradley at 140 and maybe against Canelo in his 1st fight. he beat Canelo in the rematch at 148 IMO, if you can find it and watch it and you'll see.
Vazquez is good that's why guys like Rios were quick to avoid him at 135 and that's why Broner probably will too.
I don't see how Burns can beat him unless he gets a major hometown decision.
Khan should face Bredis Prescott and avenge that loss, then give Maidana his rematch and finally avenge the Peterson loss. if he does that and stops acting like an arrogant prick, he'd be a huge star.
he can win the Prescott fight easy if he just boxes and moves. with Maidana all he has to do is learn how to clinch and avoid the ropes. the same goes for Peterson too.
I don't know why Khan starts to crumble when guys crowd him but he needs to work on that.
if Roach is the trainer he's supposed to be, then he should be able to train Khan.
although I bet GBP will just protect him and hide his fault with paid off refs, like Joe Cortez, and avoiding inside fighters and brawlers.
Khan is being such a little b1tch about all this.
I really thought Khan would have used this loss to better his game and become even a better fighter. instead he whines and moans non stop.
going to cry to the IBF WBO XYZ whatever is a b1tch move period. Khan should be a man and get in line and wait his turn.
did Maidana cry this much when he was robbed by Joe Cortez in Vegas.
yeah Vegas is real netural... GBP has a few refs and judges there. netural my a$$
Khan and his team need to man up and just accept what happened. fight Peterson in a rematch in the UK and do your talking in the ring.
personally I don't think Peterson should give Khan a rematch because we all know Khan doesn't do that, just ask Maidana.
didn't hear team Khan b1tching and moaning so much when Joe Cortez took a point away from Maidana, giving Amir the win. without that point that fight would have been a draw.
it's ok for the ref to take points away as long as it isn't from Khan.. what a douche
Khan needs to dump GBP and sign with TR.
at least with Arum he knows he'll land a Pacquiao fight. GBP/Haymon will just jock him around. yeah he could fight Broner but since he isn't a Haymon fighter good luck with getting a fair decision.
Khan just needs to keep busy in the UK, while he's getting out of his contract with Golden Boy
I doubt Broner get anywhere near Vazquez.
the problem is Vazquez has a style that mexicans don't like. he's not a warrior that they'll support. Vazquez suffers from the same problem as Carlos Molina. both great boxers but both have unpleasing styles for all but the most hardcore fans.
Broner has easily say that Vazquez brings no money to the table and call it a day. I'd be really suprised if Broner took such a high risk low reward type fight. I'd like to see Broner do something special but I won't hold my breath.
Afraid to test himself are you serious? Fck people are stupid here at nsb:chairshot
haha ok let me explain it to you since it doesn't seem like you actually watch any Mares fight.
when Mares is having problems he starts throwing low blows and the refs NEVER do anything about it.
now if it happen in one fight that'd be fine but it's happened many times
against Darchinyan he struggled and started low blows and the ref actually warned Darchinyan
he did the same against Agbeko, hell the ref even scored a KD for Mares on a low blow.
he looked terrible against Moreno in the 1st and started to work thowing low and even at one point turned Moreno around and threw a kidney punch.
maybe you don't know it but getting hit low and in the kidneys MULTIPLE times completely changes the dynamic of the fight. those kind of punches are illegal for a reason. but may you don't know as much as you think do.
let's look at the PDL stoppage
how in the hell do you get a KO when the guy is still throwing back???
yes Mares was winning the fight but you wouldn't stop a basketball game in the 3rd because one team was up by a lot?
the momentum of the fight was starting to change and the ref stopped it.
now let me put this together for you
when the ref intervenes (allowing illegal shots or early stoppage) = Mares not being tested.
it's pretty simple logic but I guess that eludes you
ha! and you're calling someone stupid!
I think Molina was on something, skinny Demarco stunned him with a jab but he was eating atomic bombs from Matthysse.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7VtTdBCU1w
yeah he goes up 5lbs but looks a lot bigger, ok
Molina probably just ruined his entire career, just listen to him after the fight. he sounds like James Toney.
even the commentators were puzzled by his ability to take all those power shots
it was a great fight, probably FOY, but dude was on something.
it's funny how people forget
IT WAS RAINING!
Martinez was fight on a wet surface and when you add that up with his injuries and his age it wasn't a good thing.
i wonder how LeBron would do if he played on a wet court?
It is true that Al Haymon is able to arrange judging that favor his boxers anywhere. The only difference I would expect is that if this fight was in other place outside NY, Philadelphia or P. Rico, you probably would see some of the public protesting the bad decision. Garcia lost, he was booed during the fight but at the end practically all the crowd cheered the bogus victory and I believe is mainly do to the fact that P. Rico doesn't have now any champions born in the island. They needed badly the false win and you can see it here where most of the posters denying Herrera's victory have root on the island. There are few honest posters but a good number of them have become cynical in the name of a false nationalism. This should be more a matter of justice and integrity than pseudo patriotism.
I agree with you about the people in PR or even with ties there. Puerto Rico is hurting bad for any stars at the moment. so I can see why the fans supported the decision when it was clearly terrible 116-112 by 2 judges is robbery IMO.
Puerto Rico has had a pretty tough go lately. if Martinez KOs Cotto, than Danny Garcia is basically all they have. wow PR boxing is really in a bad place.
Pacquiao vs Rios will not sell the PPVs -- China's Zou Shiming on the undercard will sell the PPVs (if any)...
of course it'll all be Shiming but he's signed to Top Rank. it's like when Mayweather had Canelo on his undercards. or even Don King putting Chavez sr on his PPV undercards.
regardless the money is going to Uncle Bob himself. if chinese PPV works like it does here than half of the money from the buys goes to the cable providers.
anyways that's like $250 million plus the US PPV money and the live gate.
all and all I expect their to be around 300 million or so to go around.
Pacquiao is getting 20 million, Rios 3 million. Shiming and the rest of the fighters probably won't make more than 5 million combined.
let's say 30 million for all of the fighters purses. let's just say 70 million for whatever, just to be fair.
that still leaves a possible 200 million for Arum.
Mayweather vs Caneo already has a 19 million live gate, a record breaker. let's say the PPV sells 1.4 million at 75 which 100 milllion but half goes to cable providers and satellite operators.
Forbes Magazine is saying Mayweather will make 50 million if the PPV sells 1.4 million. so there goes the PPV money
that leaves 19 for everything else.
so the fight might break even.
200+ million for Arum maybe and probably nothing for Schaefer, so of course he's upset.
if by chance Martinez does win by KO every Cotto fan who's saying Cotto will destroy Martinez, you know they will be the 1st to be making up excuses.
just saying
Exactly, I'm not sure what the problem is but, people hate just to hate I guess. I'm excited for more events and more exposure for the sport I love. The more exposure, the more talent attracted back to the sport. When you have more talent, you have better fights and attract even more exposure and talent. It's a cycle and if it keeps up it's going to pay big dividends. We may start to see a new era of boxing.
in think many ways Schaefer brought it all upon himself. Schaefer often cries about Arum but does the same BS and often does it even worse. he presents GBP as the "good guy" and everybody else as villians.
2ndly Schaefer and Haymon's sweetheart deal with HBO under Greenburg almost tanked boxing on HBO. Greenburg bought up all the mismatches GBP was offering and over paying for fights. all the while other promoters had a hard time getting on HBO because Greenburg gave GBP 1st take for dates.
the boxing budget when from 100 million plus to around 40 million in the decade or so during Greenburg and Schaefer deal. lots of fans left the sport because of the non competitive fights.
think about it, HBO couldn't cough up 3 million for Juanma vs Gamboa when everybody wanted the fight but they were giving Andre Berto almost a million per apperance.
some years ago Thomas Hauser at secondsout boxing wrote a lot of great articles laying out the problems at HBO and how Greenburg's sweetheart deal with Schaefer and Haymon really sank HBO boxing.
I'm not hating, more boxing is great but if GBP and Haymon stay true to their past track record then a lot of those matches will just be mismatches and apperance fights.
personally I'd rather see a few good fights than have the market flooded with garbage fights. the fox deal is nothing new they used to have the same with univision. SoloBoxeo wasn't all great. usually just mismatches. I understand they are building young fighters but nobody like watching a fight when they know the outcome.
maybe GBP will step it up and I hope they do because that will be the best for boxing.
people don't seem to realize that judges don't see the fight from the same view as everybody at home watching on TV. hopkins shumenov had plently of dull moments.
let's just imagine the judge only saw shemenov's back while he was throwing a few jabs as hopkins was backing up. so from that angle it looks like he was doing something but in reality he wasn't. can't blame the judge for something like that.
Didn't know Golovkin was Spanish, thanks for clearing things up.
didn't say he was spanish what i said is that he isn't know in the spanish speaking world
http://notifight.com/
that's a pretty big spanish site for boxing and he's almost never mentioned. Cotto vs Martinez has been well over 90% of the news they've been reporting.
GGG just isn't on the radar in that part of the world
you know why that's important?
Puerto Ricans and Mexicans in the US buy PPVs. why do you think Mayweather is always fighting Mexicans and Puerto Ricans? because it's about the money.
all Martinez is saying it GGG needs to get more exposure so people (latin people) will buy the fight.
Sergio Martinez will vacate his belts and move back down to 154 after he seeing Peter "THe Chocolate Kid" Guillen.
I think The Chocolate Kid is the Best at 160 hands down. He will out class Sergio Martinez and I think that is the fight Martinez should be looking at. Rather then him chasing these smaller guys.
that's why Kid Chocolate turned down an offer from Martinez privately and publiclly kept calling him out. look up for yourself on maxboxing
I think eric gomez (GBP's match maker) said that Quillen and his team didn't believe he was ready and that was about a year ago
this is the same Quillen who turned down a shot at Bute when he was fighting at 168.
truth hurts, maybe AIBA should clean up and shut up.
more people need to call of the corruption in boxing on all levels. bring that ***** into the light
So according to you, Roy Jones is a dip**** for not fighting Lennox Lewis. I mean, he did jump up to heavyweight and snatch a heavyweight trinket from John Ruiz. And if you're big enough to fight one heavyweight, there's no such thing as another heavyweight being too big. That 5'10 light heavyweight Roy Jones is such a freaking coward for not challenging the 6'5 245lb Lewis. LOL!!!
maybe you didn't know but heavyweight doesn't have a weight limit really so it isn't the same. look Victor Ortiz rehydrated to 164 against Mayweather. Martinez rehydrated 165 against Macklin. ohh but Martinez is a giant
the truth is Martinez is a threat to Mayweather and his fans are scared and coming up with excuses plain and simple because if Martinez wasn't a threat you be saying bring it on.
and by the way Mike Tyson was 5'10 and Joe Fraizer was 5'11 but I guess they're too small to fight big guys. Joe Louis was KOing guys who had 50 to 60 pound on him. so if you fight at a weight class and beat the weakest champ but refuse to fight a difficult fight with somebody at that weight you are a cherry picker.
Guerrero is turning to Vanes' mini me
tons of decent guy at 140, so why does Guerrero fight one of them to make a name for himself.
Marcos Maidana
Lucas Matthysse
Jessie Vargas
Vernon Pairs
Josesito Lopez
Humberto Soto
Mike Alvarado
Danny Garcia
anyone of those guys would be an HBO fight, because they love Guerrero's story. everyone of those fights could be made and very winnable for Guerrero. but after fighting bums like Casamayor, maybe he isn't ready the guys I stated.
I think it's just an excuse for Chavez moving up after he beats Rubio.
it's looks Cotto jumped ship, so that ends that fight and if he moves up he'll be rid of Sergio Martinez.
so I'm suspecting Chavez will vacate his title after this bout. he'll probably fight some bums that will build up to a "super fight" with Pavlik, Arum might even make Margarito move up to 168 to face Chavez in one of the typical BS Chavez fights leading up to the Pavlik showdown.
the WBC will figure out a way to steal their belt away from Ward and give it to Chavez.
I wouldn't be suprised if Chavez vacates the title within a few days after the fight.Martinez vs Macklin might be for the 160 title. it's the easiest way to slience Martinez and it doesn't make Chavez look like he's ducking him.
although im still a little bit disappointed in Maidana for ducking Thurman...
I really wouldn't call it a duck. Golden Boy needed to fill out the Alvarez vs Lopez card and wanted to put an Argentine on the card. Maidana just did what he was told.
come on it's not like Thurman's a beast. he didn't look that great against the tomato can he fought against. Thurman's got talent but not fighting Maidana at this point might have been the best thing for him.
Ortiz is just showing his true colors. he is a prima madonna. Robert Garcia was saying this about his character all the time but nobody wanted to believe him because Ortiz has a great story. Not everybody who had a rough life turns out to be great people.
Ortiz has talent but he'll break when he's losing control of the fight. Berto didn't push him back, Maidana and Peterson did. Ortiz is fine when he is the one in control. he loses to Maidana at 147 simply because Maidana won't back down. a weak chin Berto had the courage to take his shots and finish the fight, what do you think big balls Maidana is going to do, take the shots and give some of his own back. Ortiz will get tagged with a big right all night and eventually crumble.
Berto was landing the right on him and knocked him down, what Maidana won't do the same?
lmao at martinez saying that when he ducked Pirog and Zbik who were both his mandatory
you should get it right, Pirog was NEVER Martinez's mandatory. the WBO stripped Martinez and Pirog fought Jacobs for the WBO title.
2nd Martinez wanted to face Zbik but HBO rejected that fight so instead of losing out on his TV date he fought who HBO wanted him to fight.
hardly a duck.
