NEW YORK — Bob Arum appreciates that HBO Sports executives saw the value in televising the “Boxing After Dark” tripleheader the premium-cable network will televise Saturday night from The Theater at Madison Square Garden.
Arum’s promotional company, Top Rank Inc., has stakes in two of the three fights and Arum believes at least one of his fighters, undefeated featherweight contender Mikey Garcia, can become a star if he overcomes Orlando Salido in their 12-round fight for Salido’s WBO title. Not surprisingly, working with HBO on this card didn’t prevent the 81-year-old, combustible promoter from vehemently voicing his displeasure with another fight the network will televise — Bernard Hopkins versus Tavoris Cloud.

Bob is a hypocrite, a liar and horrible horrible human being.
The reason why Boxing is virtually dead as a sport (except for a handful of few "stars") is because of the boxing "fanbase".
This forum is a prime example. It's full of idiots who can't appreciate someone like Hopkins who is making history AGAIN and are prepared to listen to a leeching, money hungry and blatant liar like Bob Arum.
The same Bob Arum who has tried to monopolize boxing, blatantly disregarded the "fans" and has failed.
Sad the the fans are too thick to realise this. I'm not even exaggerating, i don't think any other sport has a more fickle and stupid fanbase than boxing has.
The sooner people stop talking about Arum, the better.
One word best describes Bob Arum..... "Hypocrite".
Doesn't matter if he's right or wrong, because he does the same ***** and that's called hypocricy. He shouldn't even be allowed to say the word "inexcusable".
I actually want to see Malignaggi-Mosley. Malignaggi is not an elite fighter in an elite division and has a belt. The minute he fights an Alexander, Bradley, Guerrero, Ortiz, Berto, hell probably even Maidana he gets raped and loses his title. Even Zab Judah could probably go grab that. I am somewhat amuzed and want to see how long this fluke championship can last. He already had a controversial win to the likes of Pablo Cano. Mosley is shot but he has a good chance in this fight. He will atleast be competitive. I don't have a problem with competitive fights with marquee names. This fight will be much more competitve than Pacquiao-Mosley was thats for sure. But I agree with Arum that the Hopkins snoozefest isn't one to salivate over. Hopkins survivalist style is hard to swallow and I'm no longer fascinated saying "look at this old man survive with the best fighters in his division". You know for sure you are going to be in for a boring fight no matter who Hopkins fights at this point.
funny, when he was promoting pacquiao vs mosley he had nothing but good things to say about mosley....
this is all bitter jealousy that he's not promoting the cards/events and that richard schaefer has showtime on lock and hbo still working with him
with hbo right now sweating about losing floyd to showtime, schaefer has them eating off his palms
this^^^^^^^^^is so damn obvious...I keep saying, there's a difference between a everyday all day fan and a casual nut who ride the popular wave...we log on and politic about the sport everyday, these the things we SHOULD know...good post man!!
All jokes aside folks are going to hate on Arum even when he's right. Bring some of these fights to regular non premium tv, put some young up and comers on the undercards and lets get a show. The networks have to do their part, they pay vince mcmahon a grip to put on fake wrestling, plus considering how expensive it is to get a major sport on your network, these fights come cheap. I seriously think a boxing match can do upwards of 8 million to 18 million viewers on a saturday night on any major network that's not premium...of course you can't just put two tomato cans in there but give the ppl a show. I'm sure a lot of these younger dudes could use a bump up in pay too. You got dudes fighting on HBO for like 50k - 100k in some cases...ain't no way a network is paying out a budget of $3 million per episode decent number shows and can't do the same for boxing.
Who the hell cares? You don't have to like Bob Arum but he is spot on with his assessment here. The only titles that Hopkins and Mosley are fighting for are the ICAMCIO belt-- that is, the I can't except my career is over belt. And the OMP belt or one more paycheck belt. Brought to you by the Golden Boy geriatric Society.
Actually B-Hop doesn't have a belt, my fault. Still that is a very interesting fight and Hopkins is a legend whose last fights have done quite well in the ratings.
If Arum would put on more stacked cards like the one tomorrow I'm sure HBO would buy more of them. But we all now that he rarely does. Look at Pac's PPVs....it's the main event and then a bunch of filler.
(I won't disagree that Mosley vs. Malignaggi is a crap fight.)
Hey Bob, Hopkins vs. Cloud is a title unification fight. The winner will get both the WBC and the IBF belts.]

Arum has always dissed cards headlined by relics... even going way back to when Top Rank Boxing was on ESPN when they were just starting out. Can't really blame him. Cloud HAS been exposed as clueless with good boxers, and Hopkins is still that if nothing else. Would be great though to see Campillo/Cloud II.
Not a fan of Arum but he makes some solid points, GBP need to put two young fighters who just bang on these cards at least. Advertise Boxing like that, the average fan isn't going to appreciate Hopkins style, ****s really boring to watch alot of the time and I like Bernard. Though that fight is better than Paulie vs Mosley...thats a horrible fight. Honestly, Mosley has had his day...give the younger fighters a shot. Build the next generation.
****ing Boxing man........

Maybe if you had done the unification fight between Donaire and Mares they would have put that on HBO too. :dunno:
Arum has made plenty of pointless fights with no meaning so why is he crying for? Manny vs shane was a pointless fight that had no meaning, why did he make that fight? Get lost bobby.
Though a lot of people watch them. Hopkins is a legend and very well known in casual fans minds. People tune in to see the guy fight regardless of how it plays out. Mosley-Mal isn't the best fight but its also two known guys and people will watch it regardless. What young fighters do you want to showcase and headline a card? It's hard to get casuals interested enough to tune into people they know nothing about. Hopkins fight should be good, Mosley not so much but either way they're not as terrible as Arum makes them out to be.
But how will you attract casual boxing fans if the fights are boring? And how many casual boxing fans really tune in on a regular basis? The casual boxing fan knows 2-3 fighters and watches 2-3 fights a year. The people who support boxing are the ones who watch boxing on a regular basis and get crapped on by the networks by staging crappy fights.
What will attract fans is having entertaining fights. And whether you like it or not Knockouts is what brings the crowd.
Hopkins, as genius as a fighter he is, is boring to watch. And boring will not bring in more casual fans. That is why Gatti, who at the most was a B level fighter, brought in fans whether he lost or won, becase they knew somebody was getting knocked out.
I have to agree. I'll be the first to admit Hopkins is one of the best fighters of this generation, however, I also have to admit that the fights he's had for the past 12 years have put me to sleep.
Hopkins is like that independent film that wins all the awards but is incredibly boring to watch.

I think the mosley fight is bulls#it to me it looks like gbp is trying to set up another easy fight for danny garcia. He moves up. And their is no lucas mathyse fight. Just another way to avoid hard fights
Hate to say it but the old man has a point. HBO is wasting valuable resources on 2 fights that nobody is interested in.
speak for yourself i cant wait for the hopkins fight.
I gotta give it to Hopkins. He's an amazing opportunist. Cloud deserved that loss vs Campillo so now he comes to fight Cloud and some of his fans make it seem like Cloud has never lost. Still a decent fight, he's fighting someone in his own division and not someone coming up in weight.
Were Pacal and Dawson coming up in weight? You talk as if Hopkins has made a career out of that which is pretty dumb to be honest.
