Former champion Marcos "El Chino" Maidana ( 32-3, 29 KOs) will take a stay busy fight on December 12th at Luna Park in Argentina, but then he wants secure a big opportunity in early 2013. Ranked at number two under the WBA at 147-pounds, Maidana would like to get a shot at the champion, Paulie Malignaggi (32-4, 7 KOs). Another option is the winner of Saturday's fight between Robert Guerrero (30-1-1-2, 18 KOs) and Andre Berto (28-1, 22 KOs).
Maidana will wait until the conclusion of Guerrero-Berto to weigh his options.
"That's who we are targeting. I want to Malignaggi, or else the winner of Guerrero and Berto. We are waiting for the outcome of that fight and next year we will see what we can do. Maybe I'll go to the venue [for Guerrero-Berto]. [The fight in Ontario] is only an hour away from here in Oxnard. I think Berto will win. He's wery solid and attacks a lot more. But you never know. Fights are fights. And being at such a high level, one mistake can cost the entire fight in a blink of an eye. So we will wait. Next year we'll start with everything," Maidana told BoxingScene.com's Carlos Irusta.
