Seriously why is there the constant need to compare boxing to mma they are totally different sports. Comparing them because in both you can throw punches is like comparing football(american) to soccer because in both you can kick a ball. Its just a silly comparison.
Khan signed a long term deal I think with Sky so all his fights will be on Sky PPV whether you like it or not I'm afraid.

The days of watching Amir Khan for free are over. After his first 18 bouts were screened on ITV1, Khan’s next bout on September 6 — and presumably most of his future bouts — will be on pay-per-view television after Frank Warren, Khan’s promoter, signed a multi-bout deal with Sky Sports.
He is just trying to tie him in with other cards and stuff to justify the £15 and this weekend right enough its worth the £15. Once Khan beats up on some more easy opponents and gets the hype train going again you wil be paying for the PPV fro Khan as a headliner again I reckon.
Weight divisions should have height requirements.
And shoulder length requirements.
F*ck it, let's revamp the sport.
why stop there why not go by shoe size and waist measurement. i wish people would give up with this he should be in this category and he should be in that one. so what if he puts on 15-20 pounds after the weigh in that can hurt a fighter too losing and putting on too much weight in the short time. the other guy can do the same, but maybe it might suit him to be lighter and faster so as to not get tagged than to be more stocky and slower. also nothing to stop the shorter fighters cutting down the weight and dropping down also.
Why does he have to fight 2 mandatories in a row? I heard there was a mess up and Salita basically jumped the queue but surely thats on the boxing commission and not on Khan or his team. Personally I think he should be able to fight who he choses now and then be forced to fight Maidana IMO. Maybe someone has a better reason for the two mandatories in a row, I don't know the finer workings of the process.
IMHO I don't think that many of you put in Khan's position would not go for JMM before he is retired. Maidana will be around for long time to come and Khan should be forced to fight him after his next fight. It's easy to say from the comforts of your computer at home what you would do / what he should do etc. etc.
I don't have a problem at all with Khan fighting JMM then Maidana. If he does not fight Maidana after that he will go down in my estimation tho for vacating.
I like both fighters and would consider myself unbiased. I don't think Floyd can overtake Manny until maybe the next fight after these unless Manny loses this one with a Floyd win. But to be honest I just hope they do fight next after this and that will settle #1 p4p for sure.
To be honest I have a feeling both Manny and Floyd will come through, but both will be tough tough fights for them. Either way at least one good thing is we have two cracking fights lined up and I can't wait for both of them!
A rematch will not be on after Khan fights Salita... Cuz Khan has to defend against Marcos Maidana if he beats Salita or he'll be stripped of his title... But on the rematch ima take Khan if they do fight, it'd have to be sometime later next year do to Khan's mandatory
Salita is the mandatory at the minute. Surely he is fighting Salita now to get the mandatory out of the way so he can pick his next opponent?
Or does he have to fight Maidana too then gets to pick opponent?
Most likey to beat Khan is maybe Malinaggi by decision tho I don't see it happening. Most likely to hurt Khan is Maidana tho again don't see it happening. Hatton hasn't got a good enough defence to keep Khan at bay for 12 rounds imo.I think Khan beats all three, so depends on your definition of dangerous TS. Depends if you mean dangerous to Khan or Khans record.
I just want him to fight one of those 3 or Bradley or JMM, no steps back now ya hear Frank Warren!!!
Put Khan down cos I think he has a lot more to offer in the coming years if he can keep his head screwed on. Prob followed by Haye as long as he saves the hit and run tactics for 7 footers and fights a different style.
He wanted the action stopped so he could have his gum shield put back in.
at that point I don't think he knew what a gumshield was, or maybe he was doing a bit of a jig with those wobbly legs. spitting gumshield out pure class act.
This fighter is about as dangerous for Khan as a packet of chips
here a packet of chips is dangerous alright when you are trying to maintain 1% bodyfat
Ok, heres another question. How do we determine a fighters prime if they were locked up for what we percieve as "key" years (such as Tyson) or even banned from fighting (such as Ali)? Personaly, I think in Ali's case it is pretty obvious he was at his physical peak when the goverment screwed him over. But it wasn't until his return, when some of his physical gifts had faded, that he had peaked mentaly. Opinions?
yeah I think ali definitely missed a large chunk of his physical prime when he was unable to fight. i think though he had his mental prime after that which helped him have the legendary overall career that he had. The difference between him and some of todays fighters is his career prime spanned both his mental and physical prime.
Yes I agree with that, I think to define prime under one term it's tough because there are 2 primes, the mental and physical like DWiens said. The problem is sometimes they dont happen at the same time.
i think that that is a very good point. you could even add another that you can have a physical prime, a mental prime and maybe a career prime where you face your best competition and all of them may not be at the same time and have an overlap between them. suppose its what makes it interesting too and also hard to define prime.
I think take joe c for example and maybe this is a bad one. He was in his physical prime in his early fights and then as age and hand problems set in he used his mental game and adapted his style. His career is now only entering its prime in terms of competition though.
I think when the Games comes here in 2012 maybe the brit refs should help our boxers out a bit. We may get many golds then. Youve got to copy what other countries have been doing since dawn of time, otherwise were just mugs.
or maybe there shouldnt be any refs from the host country at all? sorry maybe that makes too much sense to actually happen
Harrison will loose in round 8
Cook will win in round 10
Khan will win in round 3
i thought the harrison fight was off or did they get a replacement for rogan?
the famous loop hole excuse. Can you tell me what the purpose of divisions are? Not just tall, but look at the reach. Are divisions in place so people fight people their own size so disadvantages don't happen? Shit pw should NEVER lose a fight at ww NEVER!!!! it's a shame he did. That's all the williams guys can say "he can make the weight" he can make higher divisions easier and fight guys his size why doesnt he?
so what you proposing that we do it by reach? pwill can only fight the vitali, wladimir etc etc because they have similar reach. **** that talk sense. if they can make the weight then they have to sacrifice something if they are taller and a larger reach.
And you are still cool with me, ROGELIO. All I'm saying is, I don't see why the hate for PWill using those physical advantages. It's like, should a fighter with tremendous hand speed, slow down? A guy with a tremendous left hook, not throw that punch? You take what you are blessed with into the ring, and if it's enough to beat the other man, then that's ALL that should matter, in my eye's.
It's "Let the best man, win.", not "Let the best STATS win."
plain and basic common sense
Hmm the thing is though boxing is done on weight not height.
Maybe you'd have more of an argument for people who weigh in fight night heavier such as Hatton coming in about 147.
thankyou! finally someone with common sense. sick of ones spouting off that mararito had a big size advantage over cotto. taller yes but size is in more dimensions than up and down. he was the same weight as cotto and reach more or less so i dont get this "bigger" argument. to me and I could be way off the mark here but mostly the advantage of being taller is usually a reach advantage which was not the case.
Possibly the greatest fighter ever. If not for him mikkel kessler would have never been stopped, bernard hopkins and roy jones jr. would retire as the best ever, and jeff lacy would be the next big thing.
I wanna suck his dick someday
i nearly didn't pick up on the sarcasm in this post thank god i did
Yea i figured i would throw in the last part there just so most people could recognize the sarcasm
apparently this guy doesnt get it
yeah that brick might have been a little to subtle for him
Im pretty sure they said on fight nite the reach was the same, which shocked me. Ud think HBO would be right but Box rec sounds more beleivable, someone will clear it up soon im sure ( I cant be arsed!)
thats good at least im not imaging it then lol yeah boxing rec seems more likely and would negate most of if not all of my argument. was checking on williams stats as well he has like 82 inch reach longer than klitchko at 81 crazy. i can see why he gave margarito a tough time as from what i hear along with that size he is fast and skillfull, I havent seen that fight as yet though.
His size was an advantage no doubt about it but he made weight fine so thats just the way it fuckin is.
how was his size an advantage? i am not trying to be cheeky or anything I am not the most experinced fan and to me the most obvious help being bigger than your opponent is would be either a weight advantage or a reach advantage. there are probably more than that but thats why i ask.
