To pull the last of those who refuse to let things die.
Old folks stuck in their ways. I haven't had TV since my 20's. I'm all Apps now. NETFLIX, HBO, HULU, ESPN+, DAZN.
It all adds up and is still a great cost overall, and I at least I have control and I'm not paying $100+ for additional platforms I have zero interest in.
Oh, and Hulu is free because family is paying for it and I'll bum the password once in a while lol
The last ones? You do realize FOX alone has 120 millions viewers right?
Tv is dead, every network has an app now. Its only a matter of time to convert those cable viewers to app users. Cable takes 50% of everyones money and the app will gurantee them 100% of their money.
If TV is dead why are they using TV to advertise?
They are saying PPV is dead. Not TV.
I was referring to the comments on here saying that TV is dead or dying and you need to move on. Also one of hearns major selling points for dazn is that it’s through streaming cause it’s how it’s watched these days. Not going to get new fans like that.
I don’t think any bar is going to go through the effort of getting dazn through this unless it’s a major fight, do you really think they’re going to get it for Canelo fighting a fielding a jarrell Miller headlining in Kansas? They need some big ass fights or nobody will care.
I said they can get exposure but not to the extent of PBC on FOX because of those very reasons you mentioned. Doesn't mean DAZN can't air commercials during football or basketball games because they can do just that.
Also worth mentioning that the pbc are getting this exposure for free, dazn are having to spend millions on commercials. Also they’re advertising a new product, Fox are saying see this on this night on this channel it’s gonna be great. It’s a far easier sell. I thought DAZN could have used their commercials better and advertised the actual Canelo fight rather than saying their boxing is free numerous times and then people realizing its 10 bucks a month.
I mentioned this on another thread but the Stevenson/Gvozdyk fight is HUGE. If Stevenson wins and Alvarez beats Kovalev and returns to SHO, then Bivol to SHO makes a whole a lot of sense. But a lot can change there.
Yeah those 2 fights are big for the future.
Hearn doesn’t hold promotional rights to khan in the US, that’s why he’s not involved and desperate for him to fight brook. Dan Rafael and Keith Idec have said this and that it is being negotiated through khans lawyer as a result
People also forget how Gervonta beat pedraza to a pulp at 21 years old for a world title but are so quick to heap praise on Lomachenko and how everyone is ducking him. Loma is fighting pedraza in December! And it’s not even a fair comparison loma was in the amateurs for so many years and it could be argued hid from the pro game until now. Also in his first fight he got beat by salido? I’m pretty sure Gervonta would smash him too. Always hating on this kid for one year of inactivity cause of legal issues, wait till 2019 the American public will love him.
There’s no guarantee he will fight Canelo next and if he does what type of deal is he going to get I’m pretty sure he will be dictated to, Canelo is not obligated to fight anyone and can still get the same pay.
What about the Barclays Center tweeting that though, a little bit unusual if nothing happening there and PBC are tweeting about Danny too. I think Canelo is in a very strong position in that he can fight much lesser options and be paid the same so why would golden boy pay huge purses to a Jacobs who could give Canelo a headache? Their terms may be unreasonable for someone like Jacobs especially when he can get a big purse in a grudge match v Charlo with easy negotiations? Just a thought.
As they get more sports, as they've gotten in other countries, it will be incredible.
Even right now, I hear a ton of stories about MMA fans becoming fans of boxing through DAZN. And it's all thanks to marketing within the platform.
For example, up in Canada we have NFL Sunday Ticket on DAZN and, instead of regular commercial breaks, they advertised the AJ-Povetkin fight and other events that were upcoming.
Well for example the UFC just signed with ESPN, NBA has a network deal until 2023 and the NFL 2022 so not long to wait then for all these sports?! I don’t think it’s good for boxing to be tucked away on a new app when it should be attracting new audiences.
How is it good? I don't know, it's a cheap subscription, with way more boxing than hbo that you can use to either stream or catch up on previous fights from. How's it not good? The sport has always been fragmented in terms of networks showing fights. HBO leaving leaves an empty slot for DAZN to jump in.
Boxing needs to grow and attract more fans, DAZN is good for us boxing fans who will follow boxing wherever it goes but for boxing to grow and get more eyes on it I don’t think a new app is going to help with only boxing on it.
I don't understand where this funding is coming from. It just doesn't make sense.
Investors who hope to trade it publicly one day like Netflix probably, not a lot of tech companies are in profit, Uber make billions in losses etc but they are worth billions.
The Stevenson card will be on SHO right before the televised ppv, kind of acts like an undercard, if that was on the actual undercard people would be applauding so not too bad is it.
Business doesn't last long when losing money. If something doesn't change, they won't last very long.
(one example is HBO)
I hope you’re right, I don’t see boxing growing been hidden away on DAZN, contrary to what people say they can’t get hold of any of the big American sports for years due to their current deals. The small amount of hardcore boxing fans such as the 500k who watched Jacobs at the weekend will watch on DAZN and it’s good for them being cheap but I fail to see how ‘this is good for boxing’ the sport needs new, different fans.
Stupid fight. What's gonna prove? Davis should fight people like Berchelt, Mikey, Loma, Prograis, Pac, etc.
Waste of time!
Berchelt has a fight, Mikey has a fight, Lima has a fight, prograis has a fight, pac has a fight but you want Davis to fight these fighters and not to mention most you mentioned are at 140-147 now. This is a great fight for fans builds his name and will be action and keep him active. No pleasing some people haha.
Who have they actually signed who’s ‘new’ now that HBO have left the business? None of the PBC guys have jumped ship or Top Rank guys it’s just that they’ve scooped up the HBO pieces and put them on a far less subscribed to platform. You could say it’s worse for boxing as HBO could at least get some casual people to watch in the past, that’s what the sport needs. The people who know about dazn will go wherever boxing goes, it’s not about them. Fox, Showtime and ESPN should be able to pull in some big numbers now all these HBO fighters are tucked away on some obscure new platform.
If this deal gets done then what is the point of Hearn? He went from months telling the world you need to sign with me send your fighters to sign co-promotions with me of you want to get on DAZN. Now both canelo and GGG have gone around him for their own deals. Golden boy went around them for their own yearly deal and DAZN might throw a couple dates to loeffler. Doesn't sound like hearn ever had a exclusive deal with DAZN. He couldn't get the fighters so DAZN is signing them and signing other promoters to deliver fighters.
Yeah it looks that way, it’s breaking down just as HBO looked a few months ago.
I paid for the wilder fury fight and it was tense all the way and one of the most exciting tv moments I’ve seen in the last round. It was great for boxing and now everyone’s talking about it, I’ll keep paying for great fights rather than having a silent protest and missing out on seeing a big fight live I don’t know how any so called boxing fan could not have enjoyed that fight.
Also Hearn doesn’t make any money if khan fights Crawford instead as he doesn’t have the promotional rights to khan in the US per dan Rafael and Keith Idec. That would hurt him as he over paid khan for his two warm up fights in the hope of the brool fight being the 3rd.
well why go to bar to watch a NFL game that airs for free on TV at home? Every sunday bars in the US are packed with people spending time and money at bars even though it's free at home. People just like the large crowds. I've seen big fights at bars and that's cool but I personally like watching big fights a house party but I got buddies that have watched a fight at the movie theater and say it's really fun on the huge screen and with a large crowd. One day I have to check it out at a theater.
I get that, I do it too but I’ve never bought a ticket to something that was free, bars don’t charge to watch NFL, NBA etc cause it’s not PPV. So why would they charge to watch DAZN and why would theatres charge. That’s ppv in my eyes.
So is this DAZN doing PPV? Doesn’t really make sense to go pay to watch it if they are advertising it as free. They’re not really selling their core message here.
Leo needs to get active, can’t be active against all the top guys every time, he’ll take this on fox get a fight and exposure and then showtime will pick up the Russell fight.
It means it's PPV for Bars, Casinos, Movie theater establishments to order the fight via their in house cable/satellite provider. For fans it's free if you want to stream the fight from home for the first month and just 9.99 every month after as a subscription. This is more for fans who just like watching big fights in large crowds. I know many fight fans who prefer that then watching at home
Why buy a ticket for something that is free though?
Probably got paid an obscene amount of money for this publicity stunt, RIZIN got their word out and promoted their young star. Genius marketing by both sides.
