It’s easy to say ppv is dead for Canelo but fielding was never a ppv fight, DAZN have yet to put a PPV fight on. Looking at PBC schedule it’s a lot better than DAZN and it’s free so I don’t think TV is dead. Also the PPV’s are PPV fights.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but they're saying PPV is dead not necessarily TV. I mean once PPV is extinct we're bound to see more free-to-air fights on regular TV again? Or does PPV kill off boxing on TV period? Being only able to watch boxing via an app would be terrible. I like netflix and amazon prime, but I wouldn't want it to replace HBO, Showcase, NBC, BBC etc..
Problem is they will never get rights to any of the top sports in the US. If they are lucky the NFL might throw them a game a week like it does to Amazon Prime. The big sports would rather do things on their own on their own existing apps.
We shall see. It sure won't be easy but they clearly will give a nice go at it.
When you say TV you must mean cable.
Streaming can be shown on a television too.
Truth is millions of people have given up their cable
in favor of internet-based streaming.
Hell, they've given their landline phones too
in favor of internet-based VoIP.
Bottom line is doing most things through the internet is the way of the future.
Deal with it.
I know about that, but that's in Canada, and I heard the stream is garbage with a lot of people complaining. DAZN will acquire rights to the major sports in the US, but it will not acquire them for DAZN US customers
My experience has been great. Some people have had bad streaming, most of it during week 1 of the 2017 season.
Regardless, the NFL cares about their bottom line over everything...DAZN is willing to throw away cash like it's nothing...just don't be surprised, is all.
Don't be so sure.
In Canada, the NFL already gave non-exclusive rights to DAZN for NFL Sunday Ticket, Redzone and the NFL Network.
Remember, it's not a issue with cable contracts. Too many people are mistaken about that.
It's an issue with satellite providers (ie, Direct TV)...whether those contracts are exclusive...and if they are, whether DAZN can make them non-exclusive through financial compensation.

Theyve done some kind of MLB deal, about to be announced, $300mil for 3 years. Sounds to me like a NFL Red Zone kind of show theyre gunna be doing
So DAZN is paying MLB 300 million for a show similar to "MLB Tonight" thats on MLB Network, mainly to just show highlights of games in progress and then go back to the commentators in the studio? That's really going to get people to subscribe to DAZN when they can watch the same thing o ESPN. DAZN is trying I bet, but there is no way they will ever get full rights to broadcast major sports games, at the least they would probably get a game a week similar to what the NFL does with Amazon Primes Thursday NIght Games

That doesn't change the fact that streaming services have grown exponentially over the last 5 years and look to continue to do so to the extent that it's not uncommon for the latest generation to simply skip TV entirely.
That's the demographic that's relevant (the youth of today are customers of tomorrow) and it's that demographic that is leaning more and more towards streaming services than traditional TV.
You're talking about streaming services that offer things for you watch anytime at any day. DAZN is far from being Netflix or Prime. They have nothing to show. They'll show a fight card for a few hours on a weekend and that's it nothing more, nothing but dead air the rest of the week unless you like catching cycling or cricket here and there.
Oh yeah, once they start attaining rights to other sports leagues of course they will increase their fees. They would be dumb not to. You are spending THAT much on those respective sports and will keep it at $10 bucks a month? That makes no sense. Now, for those that will buy it only for boxing? Definitely sucks for them.

Yet DAZN is paying a company to broadcast DAZN in bars and restaurants. A company that takes care of PPV and closed circuit to be shown in bars and restaurants through a cable or satellite provider.
DAZN simply wants to hegemonize the sport of boxing in America by taking the sport off its linear platform, which is television and by putting it on a platform where it is even more difficult for the casual fan to find and that's the internet.
That's DAZN's endgame. They won't to rule boxing globally and what better way to do that other than hegemonizing the mecca of boxing which is the U.S? Oscar De La Hoya is damn fool! In the long run if the DAZN achieves it will nullify the American promoter while marginalizing its mainstream audience even more.
They are saying PPV is dead. Not TV.
I was referring to the comments on here saying that TV is dead or dying and you need to move on. Also one of hearns major selling points for dazn is that it’s through streaming cause it’s how it’s watched these days. Not going to get new fans like that.
DAZN getting MLB Highlights is good, it is going to need more popular content than just boxing to work particularly in the US. However what is conveniently being left out of the full story is That FOX (Yes the Fox that PBC is On) paid $5 BILLION to retain the rights to show Full MLB Games Exclusively until 2028. Huge misconception of cutting the cord. No people are never going to cut the cord to rotate in between Apps to watch Programs. What they will do is yes Cut the Cord but they will switch to a DirecTV Now, Playstation Vue, Youtube TV something like that where they still get their Premium and Local Channels but instead everything is through streaming but you will still need their Internet Connection to consuming their Programming. Traditional Network TV and Local Programming will never go away...EVER! We will just have more options which is great and will lead to lower Prices because of Competition!
But No Sorry DAZN is NOT "Taking Over" that is unrealistic especially in the US :nonono:

Ah I see. Yeah, nothing huge or anything but a nice get nonetheless. This can lead to something bigger with the MLB.
Going to be interesting to see DAZN and ESPN+ battle for the same rights in the next few years.
Randomly you seem like the resident DAZN expert these days. What do you think of them keeping this $10 price once/if they start acquiring some bigger more mainstream sports in these HUGE deals potentially?
Doubt it whilst theyre still building. Not heard of any price hikes in the markets they've been in for a couple of years. Itll be like Netflix, get established then put it up a couple of dollars.
That's nice and definitely big news. Personally? Not a baseball fan, but it is one of the three biggest sports stateside. Now, what rights did they attain here? To actual games or just purely a RZ type of show?

Meanwhile, MLB also will announce a streaming deal with DAZN that will not include any live games, but allows for live cut-ins, similar to how MLB Network handles its studio show “MLB Tonight.” The three-year deal is a relatively small but significant move as DAZN continues its push into the U.S. market under the direction of Exec Chair John Skipper.
That'll be interesting to watch. I think $10/mo will be the price for the next couple years at a minimum doe.
But yea it'll be interesting to see if the price rises or they offer package deals for specific sports (which I'd like to see as a guy who gives no f#cks about any non-combat sports) when they get some sports with more mainstream appeal. One would think they'd have to. Cuz them spending a billion 1.3B on boxing so far over the next 8 years some of these other sports are selling for 5x+ that number for there deals for rights.
The money that goes to boxing has at least a synergy effect for the other dazn markets.
Dazn germany does get all the us located matchroom cards and the bigger matchroom uk cards (unfortunately no wbss), but their focus on boxing was the sole reason I subscribed to dazn.
