Mike Coppinger just broke the news GGG is about to sign to DAZN. With this news HBO’s fighter and promoter collection is looking like the spitting image of HBO give or take Anthony Joshua, Kovalev and Jessie Vargas. One thing missing though, millions of subscribers who might tune in casually, how is this good for American boxing and isn’t this just the status quo with the network rivalries apart from one is a niche network?
HBO going out of buisness or something? Last I read, GOT alone made them like a BILLION last year lol..
Because they didnt wanna spend on boxing doesn't mean they're losing money. It means they have smart people running their buisness who see that boxing does nothing for them financially
Oh yeah? Last I heard they're getting out of boxing because it wasn't profitable for them. Did something change?
Smart a55 :fu2:
This is not a huge surprise.
What exactly are the other choices?
He'd just be put on the shelf at Showtime,
which is just full of bark and no bite type of fighters.
I'm very sure he'd rather go to ESPN than with PBC.
I don't even think he'd be welcome at SHO/PBC.
He would just terrorize these people.
Theres nobody else around his weight class other than those names. Who else would he fight?
Maybe Hurd or Charlo in a few years I could see but now, those are the names.
That's my point boxing in order for subscribers to grow they need to not only get all the stars but to develop more from the ground up..... all dazn has done is gotten HBOS left overs which is good until canelo is no longer selling
I mean marketable fights that will increase dazn subscriber numbers

Smith, GGG, Jacob's, Andrade, Saunders ( was already gonna fight on DAZN vs Andrade), Lemiuex and whoever else. They have enough to fill a few to 3 years worth of fights right now.

Everytime a new promoter comes around fighters flock to it. It happened with Golden Boy, it happened with PBC. In a year or two there will be another again.
Dazn has the roster of HBO but still needs to expand its roster after ggg and Jacob's who canelo fighting that moves the barometer....... no one
dazn is risky how many subscribers can canelo bring in I'd say 1.5 maybe 2
Remember this is the network wars

Theyre a global company, have millions of subscribers already. Looking to be in 20 countries in 2 years.
I haven't seen that published anywhere. (not that I have a problem with that)
Boxing needs to grow and attract more fans, DAZN is good for us boxing fans who will follow boxing wherever it goes but for boxing to grow and get more eyes on it I don’t think a new app is going to help with only boxing on it.
That's a good point. However, the status quo wasn't really getting that done either, and the younger generation is pretty comfortable with streaming services. As soon as casuals are interested in a fight and they learn it's not PPV, but DAZN, and they realize the value they're getting with the subscription they might sign up.
you keep saying that but the reality is he's had the dates and the dates NOT FILLED UP and still hasn't signed fighters. UK fighters don't matter we talking about his US fight dates. He got those dates what back in April? It's phuking Nov and nobody has signed. Nobody signed when he was the ONLY guy on DAZN with dates and money. Now he's NOT the only guy on DAZN with dates and money silly me for thinking that it will be even harder to sign fighters today then it was a month or more ago. LMAO
Patience, my friend!
He did sign both the IBF Superfeatherweight Champ and the Undisputed Cruiserweight Champ to multi-fight deals since the original announcement. And I won't be surprised if he gets the IBF Middleweight Champ on DAZN too.
You've heard it here first and I am saying this now. If Golovkin bypasses his mandatory challenge of Jermall Charlo for the WBC belt, watch how fast Canelo Alvarez vacate that WBC title. The main question is why would Ginger defend his title against a man that GGG refuses to fight?
Well Matchroom Boxing and USA have a ton of fighters.
But they don't have enough fighters to fill 16 dates statewide, which is actually an advantage to a prospectice signee.
Dates don't matter to a free agent if they're all filled up. But if they're not filled up, that's an opportunity for free agents to get multiple dates per year, guaranteed, and to headline them.

I hope you’re right, I don’t see boxing growing been hidden away on DAZN, contrary to what people say they can’t get hold of any of the big American sports for years due to their current deals. The small amount of hardcore boxing fans such as the 500k who watched Jacobs at the weekend will watch on DAZN and it’s good for them being cheap but I fail to see how ‘this is good for boxing’ the sport needs new, different fans.
Because he has more dates.
Remember, this was always Hearn's main selling point: don't be inactive on Showtime, be active on DAZN and know your fight dates way in advance.
Of course people can get some dates from GBP, but they don't have as many as Matchroom. 16 to 8, if I recall.
Dates don't matter if you don't have fighters. he has had the dates for a long time and golden boy has 10 dates a year contract with additional contract outside of that for canelo to have 2-3 dates a year. So Golden boy will have 12-13 dates Hearn has 16 not much difference. So if you free agent why sign with Hearn? They haven't when he was the only one with dates in DAZN, now Golden boy and maybe GGG have their own dates on DAZN. PBC fighters didn't bite, other top fighters didn't bite and now a better US promoter has tons of dates if you a American fighter you signing with Haymon and PBC, Golden Boy or Top Rank before you sign with a UK promoter. All 3 now have money and dates and if you just want to get in DAZN Golden Boy makes more sense then hearn because Golden boy has proven success in the US market.

How do you all think espn and fox will respond to this think about it kathy duva said espn and fox would come together to push dazn out of the USA. They got lucky when HBO folded but from here on its about development. Who can make new stars and who can make guys more money. Right now if I'm top rank and I cant land ggg I maybe in trouble. They have no ppv fights lined up their stars have no big names to fight and the landscapes about to get more competitive. Just being on dazn is a risk for all parties they're competing with ESPN and Fox we wont know how this experiment unfolds until it's done. PBC is in a safe spot for the moment they've covered themselves well for the moment but what about the future. For example how do they build with showtime and what benchmarks do they need to reach with fox.
Its really a battle of the networks right now and if I'm top rank a soldier for espn I might not have the ammo for dazn. If I'm pbc I'm worried about SHO not being able to keep up. If I'm dazn my question is both of these
