How to take a punch: Amir Khan
Winning with no advantages: Floyd Mayweather
How to please a boxing crowd: Lara
Making Smart Business decisions: Andre Ward
Staying Hungry: Chavez Jr.
Still doesn't make sense to me how a promotional company whose job it is to make the biggest fights possible in order to make the most money will be blocking the 3 biggest fights possible for 2015.
If you just stop, think about it for 30 seconds, you would realize your conspiracy theory makes no sense.
He definitely will be the next big Japanese star.
Whether he'll ever cross over and become a world mega star like Pacquiao is very doubtful. The fact Japanese fighters make good money in their home country makes it hard to ever see them come to the US to fight.
Not a fix.
That is just Joshua CLottey.
The guy has always done just enough to lose his fights. Here he didn't even try. Just took his paycheck and decided he wasn't going to put up a fight.
Naw, I like MMA as it is.
Sure there are some fights that can be boring. No different than how some fighters can make boxing extremely boring. Need I remind anyone of Ruiz, Rigondeaux, Miguel Vasquez, Ward, Barthelemy, Mayfield, Dulorme, Ishe Smith etc.
Guys, Ward spent 2 1/2 years fighting the best SMWs in the world. Bute spent that time fighting bottom-feeders. Super Six ended and Ward said he'd fight Bute after Bute proved himself. To Bute's credit, he did finally challenge himself and tried to prove himself. He failed miserably. He proved to be weak-chinned and weak-hearted vs. Froch. Passed on a mandated rematch. Then he showed himself to be scared and soulless vs. Pascal. He has now faded into obscurity. He is not a has-been. He is a never-was. It may look good from afar, but if you can't prove it on the top level it doesn't mean anything. Gary Russell Jr. also looked good from afar. The proof is in the pudding. Bute had no pudding.
Again in hindsight yes, the Bute fight wouldn't do much for Ward's career. But at the time it was a good fight. Bute was ranked high and Showtime signed him deal for the exclusive purpose of matching him with the Super Six Champ. It was built up to be a big fight and it was a disappointment when Ward decided not to take the fight.
Common buddy. The only reason some boxing websites decided to rank Bute #1 was because Ward spent 2 1/2 years wiping out all the best SMWs on the planet in the Super Six. Kessler, Green, Bika, Abraham, and Froch. All 5 in a row.
Meanwhile (and I'm using BoxRec for this) Bute fought Librado Andrade, Edison Miranda, Jesse Brinkley, Brian Magee, Jean Paul Mendy, and 42-year old Glen Johnson in that same period.
Andre Ward was a green 25-year old when he entered the Super Six as a decided underdog to the 3 big, bad Euros (Kessler, Abraham, Froch). He beat each and every single one of them decisively en route to claiming the SMW throne. And after all of this, he was scared of Lucian Bute? Lucian Bute, one of the biggest media hypejobs in recent memory?
I know that even you don't believe that.
Regardless of what caused Bute to be ranked as high, he was ranked high.
Remember Showtime signed Bute to an exclusive contract for the purpose of setting up a mega clash between the Super Six Champ and Bute.
Instead Ward kept saying Bute hadn't earned the shot and chose not to fight him. Stupid because if Bute didn't earn the shot then who? Not to mention Bute had a huge following in Canada which would have earned Ward more money and glory.
Rather he allowed the runner up in Froch to take the fight, the big money and the glory.
Bad decision by Ward.
Not excusing LSC because if you call out a fighter as LSC did; and then your promoter tries to make the fight; and you run to Haymon, it's cowardly, but did anyone think this fight was going to happen?
We know the next fight for LSC is Mares. It's the big money fight, it's an in house fight, and Mares will be the one to take LSC's 0.
It use to be like that, its not anymore.
UFC had a 40% loss in profit this past year, lowest ppv #s in years, lowest tv ratings for there fights on fox, and lowest ratings for TUF ever.
There so desperate for attention/$ there signing guys like CM punk. CM has 0 fighting experience.
The Fertetta brothers will sell in the next few years, mark my words.
Even dropping 40% I could still find more places that show UFC here, than show boxing.
As more a boxing fan than a UFC fan, I would love for it to be the other way around. For example tonight there is a pretty good HW fight. I couldn't tell you any bar in my area that is going to show the fight.
Will you guys stop with this cold war, locking other promoters out stuff.
Haymon already has all the fighters for the most part. Most of the managers besides Cameron Duncan are gone already, most of the promoters besides top rank are gone already.
Top rank is just holding on, and thats only because of there HBO connection. There roster has gotten quite small.
For **** sakes Mike Alvarado has fought half the damn roster.
I've never been a al Haymon supporter but this could be great for boxing and could be the biggest game changer in the sport ever. He's essentially cutting out managers, promoters, alphabet titles, and all the rest of the bs.
Nobody ever thought this would be possible without a union, but he's doing it.
This is exactly how I feel. If he's going to cut off the shaddy alphabet titles that have up to 5 champions per division, the bs promoters, and managers then everyone should be for it.
If this means that we will stop having 5 or six different champions per weight division, if it means that the best will fight the best, and it means we have boxing more often then I'm all for it.
In other words if it is going to be run more like the UFC, it's a good thing for boxing.
The UFC is already dead, nobody watches that besides a couple of white rednecks in the south of the US.
This is not true.
For every UFC ppv out there you could find many bars that will show the fights. There are usually 100's of people there watching.
When ever there is a boxing PPV unless it's Mayweather or Pacquiao, no bars really show the fights.
The fact he is the MW champ is really the only thing he has on Canelo.
They both had huge numbers against Floyd with Nelo edging him. Both of their last PPV were about the same. 300K.
It was a good even fight and should have been made. Cotto and his diva ways killed this fight.
wilder threw nothing but one twos, got incredibly tired past the 7th, and had just awful defense. He looked average at best.
Stiverne? Well i was just hoping for him to throw a damn punch! cut the ring off too while your at it. That was a horrendous performance.
wladimir would just destroy both of them like it was nothing. very dissapointed
And this is why promoters and advisors don't give two *****s what the hardcore fans want.
No matter what we get, people will complain, and are impossible to please.
Tonight was a good fight. Was is Holyfield/Bowe? No. But still a good scrap.
LOL quite a few rounds. Cotto won 3 rounds. Nice one. Canelo could have easily been given 3 rounds. Majority of the fight early Floyd was edging out rounds by a small margin. Could have swung either way, Early.
dude it's useless with these Cotto fans and Canelo haters.
Here are the facts:
Canelo has a history of taking on tough challenges. Dude wanted to fight Williams, Kirkland, Ortiz but for one reason or another those fights didn't fall through. Fought Trout, Mayweather and Lara, and the only reason he fought Angulo was because Cotto turned down 10 million dollars.
Cotto on the other hand is notorious for being a diva and difficult to negotiate with. Dude almost killed the Margarito 2 fight with ridiculous demands. Sergio Martinez said Cotto would cry like a little girl a threaten to not fight if every little demand wasn't meet. He did the same thing here to Canelo.
Cotto and his diva ways killed this fight. It's that simple.
I wonder if someone didn't deliberately supply Oscar with cocaine and encourage him to consort with kinky women. What better way to gain leverage over him and mess up his mind in order to steal his fighters?
Just the conspiracy theorist in me I guess.
Haha for real.
Cotto mayweather doesn't meet any of the criteria of a successful rematch.
It wasn't controversial
It wasn't a great fight
It wasn't an upset
It will flop, at least when u consider Floyd will get $32mil and Cotto will want $20mil and there will be a huge backlash if the Manny fight doesn't happen yet again.
It will do Maidana type numbers but will cost a lot more meaning a huge loss for Showtime.
Good post. :You_Rock_
I do agree with you,but is YOUR opinion..If you were talking in a pub maybe just a few of your friends would hear you..but if its posted on the internet, thousands will read it..Have you ever heard a lawyer say something completly false and the judge adresses the jury and tells them to disregard that comment?.well the lawyer did it in purpose, because he put the seed of doubt..same here..people say it,but the problem here is that theres no judge to say you out of order..So i once again say, people are entitled to their opinion, but when the say it as a fact, they should be reprimended.
They should be reprimanded? Really?
This isn't a court of law idiot, it's NSB.
