Quit Hating
Stop it already.. Don't hate on good fighters and try to depreciate their reputation/boxing abilities. Let me put this simple for you
Cotto beat Judah...
No ifs ands or buts.. You say he cheated. I say it was a (un-intentional) low blow. That happens in boxing, just like headbutts & anything else. Furthermore Judah complained about being fatigued by that punch however the ref was willing to allow Judah to rest for FIVE MINUTES, and Judah was not fatigued seeing as he used about 30 seconds of his given 5 minutes.
Cotto beat Mosley
No ifs ands or buts. It was a good and close fight. But the winner is the winner regardless of how close it was. You can lose by 1 point. But it's still a loss. Don't say "Oh if Mosley was younger..." exciting to think about but virtually impossible to determine who would win lol.
Floyd Mayweather Vs.
He is a good fighter. Cotto IS a good fighter. I want to see them fight. I don't care about the reasons of why Mayweathers group does not want him to fight.
lol
MMA more brutal to the eye
but boxing a lot more dangerous....
agreed
mma is a lot of wrestling
when u wrestle with a guy your manly
when u wrestle with a girl ur having sex. or at least close to it... jaja
boxing is much more dangerous. so is kick boxing. some may argue that it has both boxing, kick boxing, etc.. the key difference in boxing to mma is there are no knockdowns. boxers are not always literally unconscious when they get ko'd but they get hurt bad enough where they cant get up for 10 seconds. not because a guy is humping on top of you for 2 minutes.
Thats ridiculous and you know it.
Your hands don't reach out further than 3 feet from your eyeballs.
very rididculous
Ill cut him some slack if he apologizes to everyone who he couldve put in a coma.Ignorance is not an excuse and thats the best Margarito can offer.
true point. if hes truly is a ignorant person. and did not know about the plaster. he is still a dick as of now.
it was a close fight. but it was definately apparent that cotto edged mosely. i prefer that cotto win margarito by knockout that way there are no "margarito was robbed" threads later.
Cry me a river.:D

Hey Reefer Madness I Like That Picture! It Showed How Badly He Lost!
not funny...
Yeah, Cotto dictated the pace of the fight, outboxed Tony early, landed many more flush power shots, and did a good job usin the ring. But he got KTFO. That means he was at his best and it wasn't good enough homey.
That was not vintage Cotto out there. The strategy was a COMPLETE change in style. and he did not switch from aggressor to boxer as in previous fights.
Cotto got sloppy and Margarito capitalized.
Margario is a violent puncher, Cotto got the worse of it.
A rematch should be gone, but I give Margarito the fight 100% since his stragedy won the fight and Cotto ran away from his game plan and went into panic mode.
Cotto did get sloppy towards the end. did not clinch like he should have.
i don't believe Cotto ran away from his game plan. simply he did not adjust nor make attempts to adjust his plan of boxing margarito for 12 rounds and winning a decision.
There is no doubt about it, Cotto quit.
I don't believe cotto quit, but with two downs in a key round I don't think he was gonna have a chance to win a UD. His ppl was looking out for him.
Added to the fact that Margarito was constantly hitting him all over his body and Cotto had to keep moving it was inevitable that Cotto was gonna lose stamina and be more susceptible to punches and that's what happened, he got grinded down it was a slow process at first but you could see Cotto slowing down after each round.
agreed. This should have been cotto's strategy. bring margaritos chin down with body blows, that way his hits to the head get the full effect.
. I definitely think Cotto is capable of beating Margarito but an immediate rematch would not be the best idea.
agreed
Cotto's arrogance first started to show up in the Gomez fight. He was preening.
Jeez, miguel. it's Alfonso Friggin Gomez.
Agreed
^^^^^^
ya i hate to c fights with accidental headbutts nd b/s
i am a true cotto fan, but i do believe pac is capable at fighting at any weight. sure cotto would be his first true test at welterweight. but ppl said the same things about hatton and delahoya until pac demolished them. idc what ppl say about them being bums or washed out. doing those things to any professional boxer is immpressive. like i said i think this is a harder fight for cotto than it will be for pacman
i dont believe pac is too small. pac may be 1 to 2 inches shorter if that. cotto is the natrul big. but pac has the ability to get up in weight. although yes after rehydrating cotto will have an edge but i believe it will even out more after having to make weight
cotto was cut in his eye from a headbutt. u didnt see him crying. he did change is fight plan. but that was an adjustment that needed to be made. or clottey would keep catching him eaazy wit the right hand. i say rematch. clottey had 5 minutes to recover, he chose to wait 1 and a half. and then started crying bout his knee. he just trying to get easy points
fact of the matter he quit too early cuz he thought he won the fight at the 10th. not a champion mentality.
it will happen.
they are just causing drama, then the fight sells better.
2 great fighters fighting is one thing, but two great fighters who have drama. that sells
See, the thread is more interesting with conflict. In the internet, it's safe and fun to antagonize people. It's not ok to harass. I wouldn't antagonize strangers in real life but here I can say a lot of stupid stuff and get away with it.
Bias could be good also. Sport has been a battlefield for equality, especially in boxing. Just seeing Jack Johnson, Floyd Patterson, and Ali as champions lifted an entire community of people. Just seeing barriers broken is a measurement of how we can came along in society. Even though they lived blow for blow with their favorite fighters, I'm pretty sure you wouldn't fault the older African Americans for being baised and have their favorite fighters represent their struggle for equality.
I know what you mean about the mentality of today's fighters. Back in the day, fighters fought hard in each round.
1. exactly...
2. as long as he's not a judge.
i would like for boxers to get back to that, but they are much more interested in "fast and eazy" like the rest of america
Without fans to watch boxing what are you left with?
Boxing.
your point is valid. but i believe the chemistry between the fans and boxing is out of wack.
kind of like hip hop, with the lyrics and the beats. feel me? jaja
Boxing needs nut huggers and biased fans to make the sport more exciting.
"Nut hugging" is fine as long as it doesn't get physically violent between the fans. It is fun to debate the issues and antogize people. Besides, there is nothing wrong with expressing passion. You're not truly a fan(fanatic) without showing passion.
The scoreboard idea is bad, just like "open scoring". We'll see more fighters quit on the stool if that happens. Besides, they have mechanical scoring in the Amatures/Olympics. We'll see more slap happy fighters not wanting to knock a man out if computerized scoring is established at the Pro-level, which will hurt boxing.
lol. Boxing does not need neither "nut huggers" nor "biased fans". ppv boxing. maybe... I'm not saying having favorites fighter is wrong. The fan that lives and dies through their boxer is not a healthy fan. lol. You do see it in other sports. but not to the extreme that it is carried to in boxing.
antagonizing is usually what brings the violence to the fans... it is fun with close friends and family.. i would not try it with strangers.. lol
i see ur point about the score box. but do u see that even the mentality of today's fighters have drastically changed. You never see that guy going for the 12th round knockout in a fight he knows he has lost.
You mean Margarito lost, right?
Anyway, I just think it shouldn't be that simple...land more punches, win the fight. In some cases, yes. But not all the time.
yes, and valid point
i actually think that could work. but applying these improvements might cause problems...
I'm sure any change would stir up the boxing community, but it may be better for the long run.
@I watch boxing
Not sur, model by the name of angelica
As far as scoring according to the number of punches I do agree with that, but still that is according to opinion, and visibility. A friend of mine does the compubox numbers for ESPN and HBO, and he fully admits that he doesn't always get the numbers correct 100% of the time. It's impossible for one person to see every punch in every round. I think there's a lot of room for improvement, but we'll never be able to perfect it.
true, i thought the compubox was completely messed up for parts the collazo fight.
@ el malo
ya, that guy was obviously playing with his psp during the fight..
I think you're absolutely correct on the fans supporting their favorite fighter(s). I'd say 99.9% of the posters here do that. Some less than others. Now envision how boring this website would be if everyone agreed on everything discussed or were just limited to brainiac debate. It would be Boring! JAT
So you are saying the fans make boxing exciting, and not the boxers?
brainiac debate? http://img403.imageshack.us/img403/4792/pinkyandthebrainpp4.jpg
That shouldn't be the only basis to win a fight. There's ring generalship, effective offense (telling blows, not just pitty pat), etc. I agree that changes can be made, but I don't think the scoring should be that cut and dry.
@Massage Queen
I was just about to mention the Collazo fight. I believe many of Collazo's combination's were disregarded because of they were not "telling blows" as Contenders mentioned.
I do agree that those types of hits should be counted more. However, in Williams - Margarito, many of Williams' rounds were given because of very weak combination's that barely grazed Margarito and he lost that fight pretty decisively as I recall. Consistency needs to be maintained in Judging.
2 Human Judges and 1 Computer?
What I find interesting is how Margarito fans are trying to deflect blame from him. First they go after Sugar Shane and try and bring him down. Now Tito who has nothing to do with this fight.
Next we'll hear about the guy from South Africa who loaded his gloves and how Gore was robbed in the 2000 election.
This is just smoke and mirrors.
jaja, tru point
Cotto took an 11 round beating against an opponent with possible brick hard plaster in his gloves, Margarito fell apart within 9 against a man Cotto handled up on. How does that justify more heart for Margarito?
this is under the pretenses that Margarito did NOT cheat in the Cotto fight.
indeed if he did cheat, he doesn't have the heart of a man who deserves to be in boxing.
no way to prove that he cheated, no way to prove that he didnt. although there is motive.
Lets do some simple math
Question
What was Mayweather and Pacman weight against Oscar
and What was Oscars weight against Mayweather and Pacman
150 mayweather to 147 for pac
everybody was saying that pac would not even be in the fight nd this was an eazy way to get money for dela hoya
ademas pac was smaller than mayweather. so if we consider weight an issue mayweather should have the edge to do more damage.
Fight night against Oscar he was 149 Mayweather was
Pacman was 148
Now tell me Oscar weight against each fighter fight night
ok so there was about a 7lb weight difference.
but, roy jones jr lost 30lbs of pure muscle to fight tarver. jones beat tarver the first time.
What 7 pounds difference??
Mayweather against Oscar was 149 at Jr MW
Pacman at WW against Oscar was 148
I asking for what was Oscar weight against PBF and Pac at fight night
de la hoya was 154lb for mayweather nd 147lb for pacman.
7lb difference
Mayweather fighting a guy weighin less than one pound he is picking on a smaller fighter
While guys like Margarito who weigh 162 and Cotto 156 are not picking on 149 Mayweather
Double standards
cotto is not calling out mayweather. cotto say he willin to fight whoever.
the fans are calling out cotto mayweather because the fact is that they both welterweights. nd the best welterweights should fight each other. as long as they manage their weight im not really mad about who comes in heavier fight night.
