Will this event change Cotto? Rematch?

It depends a lot on how Cotto handles this loss because he could be questioning a lot of things about himself, his power, his chin, his desire, his heart etc. Although I don't think it needs questioning, fighters go through this process after such a brutal loss where he did pretty much everything right but ended up losing. (He definitely could have thrown more body shots though.) And immediate rematch may not be a good idea, let him have an easier fight as a comeback fight and then maybe have a rematch sometime next year. He has the skills to beat Margarito but he'd have to fight a perfect fight for 12 rounds.

Yeah, Cotto dictated the pace of the fight, outboxed Tony early, landed many more flush power shots, and did a good job usin the ring. But he got KTFO. That means he was at his best and it wasn't good enough homey. That was not vintage Cotto out there. The strategy was a COMPLETE change in style. and he did not switch from aggressor to boxer as in previous fights. Cotto got sloppy and Margarito capitalized. Margario is a violent puncher, Cotto got the worse of it. A rematch should be gone, but I give Margarito the fight 100% since his stragedy won the fight and Cotto ran away from his game plan and went into panic mode. Cotto did get sloppy towards the end. did not clinch like he should have. i don't believe Cotto ran away from his game plan. simply he did not adjust nor make attempts to adjust his plan of boxing margarito for 12 rounds and winning a decision. There is no doubt about it, Cotto quit. I don't believe cotto quit, but with two downs in a key round I don't think he was gonna have a chance to win a UD. His ppl was looking out for him. Added to the fact that Margarito was constantly hitting him all over his body and Cotto had to keep moving it was inevitable that Cotto was gonna lose stamina and be more susceptible to punches and that's what happened, he got grinded down it was a slow process at first but you could see Cotto slowing down after each round. agreed. This should have been cotto's strategy. bring margaritos chin down with body blows, that way his hits to the head get the full effect. . I definitely think Cotto is capable of beating Margarito but an immediate rematch would not be the best idea. agreed Cotto's arrogance first started to show up in the Gomez fight. He was preening. Cotto fought well for most of the fight in my opinion but he was up against a man who was relentless last night and it would have taken a punch-perfect performance to get the win. I definitely think Cotto is capable of beating Margarito but an immediate rematch would not be the best idea.

Cotto fought damn near perfect for about 6 rounds. He was landing huge and making Margarito miss. But he also couldnt move Margarito with anything he hit him with, and Margarito kept coming and kept throwing. I was actually pretty suprised how fast this fight turned. I gave Margarito only 1 of the first 6 rounds (the 2nd I think) and other then that Cotto looked like a machine. But Marg wore him down and made him full on quit. There is no doubt about it, Cotto quit. He was hurt yeah, but not THAT hurt, and his legs werent gone or anything. He just took a knee twice when the pressure got to be too much and quit. I think Margarito wins a rematch earlier. And this is coming from someone who picked Cotto by UD this time around. What a fight though...:boxing:

Honestly Cotto round 1-6 would of fucked up any fighter in the welter division and have them TKO's by the 5th round. The punches he was landing was ridiculous. Cotto lost the fight. However, he was dictating the pace of the fight almost the whole way through, dangerously staying on the ropes. If Cotto were to lose a rematch, being the normal Cotto, I would truly recognize Margarito as the better fighter. Nothing to take away from Margarito, but he did not beat Cotto at his best.
