Hatton ducking fighters at Light Welterweight is the biggest laugh i've had for ages. He's just embarrassed the guy ranked number 2 in the division!!?
Why would Hatton want to stay at 140 & fight nobodies with the possibility of getting beaten, when he now has massive fights one weight class up!?
Hatton is coming to the end of his career & naturally he's now only interested in the big big fights & getting out of the game with a shed load of money. Thats boxing i'm afraid. Hatton has paid his dues at 140, he has nothing else to prove at that weight - he's unbeaten there at 40+ fights.
Tim Bradley is the next best fighter at 140 but that fight will never happen. Firstly, Hatton could seriously end up cut to shreds with Bradley charging in with his head all night, secondly, nobody gives a shi* about Timothy Bradley. If Hatton beat him everyone would just say Tim Bradley was a nobody (same as what some people are now saying about Malignaggi). If Bradley goes on to destroy everyone else at Light Welterweight then maybe Hatton will fight him in 2 years time. Can't see it happening myself though.
If Hatton's got 2 years left he'll have 3 or 4 massive fights in that time in my opinion. 1 at Wembley stadium (100k people), 1 at City of Manchester (50k people) & possibly 2 in Las Vegas again.
Jennings has absolutely no chance of beating Cotto.
If anybody saw his post fight interview a couple of weeks ago concerning a possible fight with Cotto, he didnt look happy all & said "It will be a mammoth task, but if everything is agreed I'll go there & do my best".
Hardly the words of somebody looking forward to the biggest fight of their career.
I'll go for Cotto inside 4 rounds.
Jennings is a good dosmestic fighter, but Cotto will destroy him I'm afraid.
I actually thought his hand may have been injured BEFORE the fight, he barely used it on the pads or in the fight even at the start but perhaps he is just reluctant to throw it after all the times he has injured it
He never made any excuse so it really our place to tho.
But a got news for Paulie Mallinagi u just cant beat the worlds best fighters with a one handed offence!
I thought the same. I reckon Malignaggi injured his right hand in the build up to the fight. He didnt come across as all that confident when getting interviewed a couple of days from fight night & something just didnt seem right. He looked pretty down most of this week.
He hardly threw his right hand at all in the fight, even when in a position to throw it. From round 2 onwards he jabbed and held until the towel was thrown in.
In the biggest fight of his career, surely he would have gone on the offensive a bit more!?
Hatton looked good though. Looked strong & had a spring in his step for the first time in a while. He definitely hurt Paulie on a few occasions.
This will be a close fight but I'm going to have to back Paulie, simply because Hatton has looked past it in his last couple of fights. Don't get me wrong, Paulie did'nt perform in his last few fights either, but he's the fresher, quicker, hungrier fighter imo. The fact Cotto hit him with everything he had & Paulie still made it through 12 rounds makes me think that Ricky will struggle to stop him.
Lots of things, away from the boxing, could influence this fight though. Firstly, the referee. If he lets Hatton get close, then it could be a tough night for Paulie if he cant keep Hatton at bay with his jabs. Also, if Paulie's hands start to give him trouble then i dont think he can possibly win with 1 hand against a fighter like Hatton. Lastly, the judges. Everyone is well aware that if Hatton wins, then there are some huge pay days around the corner with the likes of De La Hoya & Manny. If the fight is close then the judges may just sway towards Hatton.
Froch has to get past Pascal first. I can honestly say I dont no who wins in that fight to be honest, as I've yet to see Froch come up against any sort of decent opponent. He's never been tested (not really his fault as many have pulled out of fighting him).
From what I've seen, I'd say Taylor would have too much in his locker for Froch. Lets wait til after the Pascal v Froch fight. Might have a better idea of how far he can can go.
Gutted for Enzo if this is true. Think this would have been the best fight of the night. Hope he'll still be able to get an opponent at short notice to at least get some rounds under his belt.
I'm totally undecided over how far Froch can go. He's not exactly a spring chicken at 31 & has fought nobody of note yet (Robin Reid is the biggest name on his resume and he was completely shot).
There's no doubt he has plenty of power, but he does leave his chin out to dry which makes me question how well he would do with hard straight hitters like Kessler & Pavlik. It all depends on how well he can take the shots. The fighters he's been up against have looked sub-standard to say the least.
I do think he'll beat Pascal though, especially with the fight being in his home city of Nottingham. If he does, then the big fights will be just round the corner and I hope he can make a name for himself in the next couple of years.
I think Paulie is good enough to take and keep one of the major honours when Hatton moves on.
He was totally overmatched against Hatton and I said so from the start, but i think he matches up well against Bradley, Holt and Torres. I see the four of them at a similar level.
I agree with that. There's not much to choose from in the Light Welterweight division when you look below Hatton. Even with a bad right hand, Paulie can probably still become a World Champion again. Sounds like he's got some serious issues going on though at the minute.
I think he needs a few well matched fights to get his confidence back again. He's only 27 & has'nt been in many tear ups so he has plenty of time on his side. If he damages his hand again though, he could well retire.
No way did he look stronger than Hatton either.
Really don't like enzo mac, he seems like a prick and isn't as good as he claims but.......
he's gonna knockout banks within 5 rounds. Seen one Banks fight in Germany almost fell asleep, what a bag of wank
Enzo Mac comes across as one of the more genuine fighters out there at the minute in my opinion.
You never hear him slagging off opponents & held his hands up after the Haye fight by basically saying he did'nt do the things that he'd worked on in training & deservedly got beat. Comes across as a decent bloke to me.
Have'nt seen much of Banks to be honest but I hope Enzo does a job on him and gets his title back.
This will be a good fight, despite what many people say. Im going for Rogan to win though. He has a good chin, is unbeaten & will put pressure on Harrison for the full fight. Plus, Rogan has nothing to lose as he's a relative unknown, whereas Audley has to put on a show or Warren will ditch him.
If Harrison had a heart then he'd be a world champion by now. Unfortunately he's a talented heaveyweight who doesnt like fighting.
Don't think many of us Brits can be bothered trying to work out what the fu*k is actually going on during an NFL game :lol1:.
There just seems to be too many rules & stoppages & the build up to matches seems to drag on for days and days - or is that just for the superbowl?
Wembley has sold out twice when the NFL has come over so there must be a few people interested in it over this side of the pond.
When is that bum fighting again?
This Saturday on Sky Sports PPV.
Don't know enough about Oisin Fagan to make a judgement on how Khan will do against him. I'm guessing Khan's team see him as no threat with this being his come back fight.
I'm not a fan of Khan at all though, mainly due to the fact he's been harping on about becoming world champion, yet has avoided fighting Jon Murray (British Lightweight Champion) for years.
Khan will probably be a world champion eventually, but he won't keep hold of a world title for long as any mandatory with a decent punch will have a great chance of beating him.
Anyway, he's currently not even the best lightweight in Britain, nevermind the world.
Khan might get a bit more respect from people (British public especially) if he stops harping on about world titles and takes care of fighters in his own back yard (John Murray & Jon Thaxton to name a few).
who is the best LW in your opinion then?
Murray got outboxed by a journeyman in America and arguably should of lost the fight he was getting outboxed by Al Hamedi untill Hamedi got tired that kid is overrated and he gets hit far too much he has no defence what so ever
Sorry, I should have re-worded by original post. What I meant was the fact that Khan is ARGUABLY not even the best Lightweight in Britain. If he'd fought either Murray or Thaxton before he took on Prescott, then I'd have fancied either of those two to beat him.
I think Murray has shown vast improvement in his last few fights and looks an accomplished fighter. Now, with Khan suffering an embarrasing 1st round KO, he's changed trainers so nobody has a clue how he'll perform on his comeback. Maybe Khan has improved too?
The public dislike(d) Khan because he started to believe his own hype & started acting like a world champion before getting there, whereas Murray has gone to 23-0 (12ko's) completely under the radar.
Khan would get KO'd again by Prescott so he would do best by staying well clear of him in my opinion.
Khan cannot take a punch. He'd probably do better in a re-match & survive a few more rounds but one hard shot by Prescot and Khan will be wobbling around the ring like last time!
So Froch is struggling for names on Calzaghe's record. Don't suppose he's bothered to read his own. The sooner he gets the Kessler or Taylor fights the sooner we'll all be rid of him.....He's the biggest Earache of all time
Exactly what I was thinking.
Out of all the boxers in the world, Froch is the last one who should be slagging off other fighters records. He was one decent fighter on his, Jean Pascal..........and thats it.
After these comments, I would love to see Froch take on Hopkins and see what the outcome would be. Hopkins would make him look an amateur.
Whatever you think of Witter, he is completely right with what he's said. For Hatton to totally change his training team, schedule, build up etc & then going into a big fight with a brand new strategy, is risky as hell. People forget that Paulie has been a world champion at this weight & at 27 will be in peak condition.
Hatton might not even last 12 rounds. He was badly KO'd by Mayweather & was wobbled on a few occasions by Lazcano!! His confidence is low & it looks like he can't take the punches anymore, Paulie can take them. Thats why Paulie wins the fight in my opinion. He might not have explosive power but if he's smacking Hatton with that good jab all night I can see Hatton cutting & losing on points, or should that be pints:boxing:.
Also, Witter beats Bradley in a re-match. He was well under-par against him in the first fight (for reasons we now know) & still only lost by split decision.
Witter on top form beats Bradley on points.
Hatton (45-1-32 KO) v Pacquiao (48-3-36 KO) at 140 in front of 100,000 at Wembley Stadium :boxing:.
Don't think it gets much better than that. The fight would be an all out war & a lot closer than people think.
Sorry the only reason Witter got a split decision was because the fight was over here, Anywhere else and its a clear UD...........but thats the way i saw the fight.
I agree with you. Witter did lose the fight. He was poor. He threw nothing all night. If you read my post again i was just stating the fact that Witter still only lost on a split decision. Rightly or wrongly, that was the outcome.
I think a re-match would be a great fight actually.
Maloney is right. Emanuel Steward is an idiot for trying to persuade Lennox to come out of retirement.
Steward saying this is putting a question of doubt over Lewis' career, as if he still needs to prove something. Lewis has nothing to prove. He had a fantastic career at the top, fought the best out there (beat the current no.1 Vitali) & got out a good time with his health fine & his status secured.
Stay retired Lennox. Pointless coming back to this joke of a heavyweight disivion anyway.
Froch is turning into a joke with these comments he keeps coming out with.
Message to Carl - Your dislike & jealously of Joe Calzaghe is embarrasing.
Wait til you've actually got a world title & prove yourself at world level before slating Calzaghe in every interview because it's getting boring now.
Personally, I think Froch will come unstuck against Kessler, Pavlik or Abraham if he ever fights them.
I think Khan is just a retard. He doesnt have a brain to anlyse situations for himself.
1. He fought Prescott because Rubio told him to.
2 He believed Prescott has a punch because Hatton said Prescott would have knocked him out too.
3 Now he wants to fight Prescott because Roach told him to.
4 He fired his Harrison his trainer because he couldnt get along with his grandmother, come one Khan, the guy was a trainer not a butler
So what will happen when Prescott knocks him out again, will he dump Roach?Khan needs to be responsible for him own actions not just ride on someone else's words.
To a boxing fan this will be a good fight because chances are Khan will be put to sleep. It might take longer but when he gets caught he will go.From a business perspective Khan will be finished,he will go back to fighting the likes of Graham Earl and bums of that calibre
Can't really argue with that assessment to be honest. Khan must be insane to be looking for a re-match with Prescott. Can't see the fight ever happening to be honest. Think this is just Khan talking himself up & letting people know he's not a finished fighter.
Thing that makes me laugh is that Khan keeps saying he made a stupid little mistake against Prescott, if you watch the fight again, he got wobbled my a standard jab & he was finished after that. No one can tell me that he can survive 12 rounds against Prescott next time round without taking some shots again!!? His defence can't have improved by 95% just yet:boxing:
Witter was rated the 2nd best fighter at 140 when Bradley beat him. He didn't only beat Witter he beat him clearly.
Bradley is now currently ranked right behind Hatton.
It is the best fight at 140 and would be a great fight for Bradley to get some exposure.
Witter & Bradley need a re-match before Bradley can think about a fight with Hatton.
Witter was terrible against Bradley (for reasons we now know). Probably the worst I've ever seen him fight & he still only lost on a split decision.
Witter on top form beats Bradley in my opinion.
I see no way of Khan winning this. He was badly hurt to the body against Michael Gomez so whats it going to be like going in with Barrera?? How is he going to go through the fight without taking some big punches on that glass chin?? Barrera is obviously not as good as he was, but he'll still have way too much for Khan in my opinion.
Hatton is 100% right about Khan being moved onto PPV far too quickly. Warren's plans must be in tatters after he was KO'd within a minute by an unknown fighter in his first PPV headline contest. He now has to fight big names or nobody will bother to pay to watch his fights.
Warren must be banking on Barrera being past it. If Khan has any chance of winning then he'll have to in to the fight with the mindset of not looking for a KO and fighting from distance. If he goes storming in (as usual) he'll be gone within 3 rounds.
Paulie will win this by UD. Too many things are against Hatton in my opinion. Hatton looked poor in his last fight against Lazcano & was even in trouble himself on a few occasions. Can he take the punches anymore? Paulie might not be a big hitter but he throws a lot of punches & is lightning quick. I cant see Hatton walking through the punches all night, partly due to the fact he cuts very easily.
If Cotto couldnt stop Paulie, then i'd be suprised if Hatton will.
Looking forward to the fight though. Be interesting to see if there's a change of style from Hatton or if he'll just be walking onto shots all night long!
