Former junior welterweight champ Junior Witter said that his UK rival Ricky Hatton is flirting with disaster by looking to box Paulie Malignaggi in their upcoming fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. He thinks Hatton may be underestimating Malignaggi a bit and the new boxing moves that Hatton was taught by new trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr. may hurt more than help.
"I think its a difficult fight period. With the change of trainer, change of attitude and the way he's approaching it. I think it's his downfall. It's great for British boxing if he wins. I don't ever see us fighting so it doesn't matter either way. Malignaggi has got a great chin and he keeps going. People underestimate him as a boxer. For him to go and try to box an excellent boxer, it seems a disaster when he's been fighting wars for 15 years," Witter said on Setanta Sports News.
Witter is still trying to get a rematch with Timothy Bradley, who beathim earlier in the year.
As for Witter's future, he still has his eyes on winning the WBC title back from American Timothy Bradley. He says Bradley has yet to show interest in a return bout. Witter could be facing Gianluca Branco in his next ring outing.
"We've offered [Bradley] a lot of money to do it, but he doesn't want to yet," Witter said.
