Was the fighter that got me into boxing, the guy i loved to hate, ha. ATG entertainer yes i think so. ATG fighter / boxer not in my opinion. Loved the shoot out with Kevin Kelly.
i remember seeing a clip of johnny owen getting knocked out, that one got to me considering the consequences. Arthur abrhams jaw in the edison miranda fight always makes me feel a bit sick
Whilst watching Rocky 1, mother in law chirps up that its a shame boxing isnt like that anymore:pat:
Father in law went on to say that sly was also a professional boxer and could have been a champ.
I don't know if it was ref bias or just a shocking ref but Danny Williams Vs Konstantin Airich was pretty bad. Can't post link as not got enough posts but its on youtube.
Legend of the sport.
Called it as he saw it,
Always remember how unimpressed he was with Hameds preparation leading upto barrera, Didn't care one bit about telling the media either.
I think its the effort and money it is to get the licence to use real fighters in the game that put ea off now. Ufc is easy as they have to only pay 1 organisation. Where as with the boxing you would probably have to pay each promotional company a fee. Loved fight night round 4 tho, seriously been considering re-buying an old console for it.
the next boxing game definitely doesn't need to be EA sports.
EA sports is dead. Madden is the only game left for them. EA don't even make baseball games anymore.
2K boxing is the way to go.
As long as it is better than their last attempt 'Don king: prizefighter'
I hope I'm not the only old man who played Mike Tysons Punch Out on Nintendo as a kid...
I was also playing this the other month, loved it as a kid, never got as far as iron mike tho.
Barrera vs morales round 5 for me, maybe not as great as other rounds mentioned but for me was the first war i watched so holds a special place in my mind
Spent a few years training as a teen, only got matched up 4 times with a record of 2-2, confidence was my biggest problem and i tended to psyche myself out prior to fights lol. Met my woman shortly after and with work taking over meant i didn't really get the time to train as much as i should so called it a day.
I know, I know not rap (pop rock) but just heard this song and thought it dropped some boxing references. sugar ray, marciano, and liston dropping patterson ha.
Relative to their era since some of the fighters are close to 100 years apart I'd go something like this -
1. Jimmy Wilde
2. Ted Lewis
3. Jack Berg
4. Jim Driscoll
5. Joe Calzaghe
6. Lennox Lewis
7. Freddie Welsh
8. Ken Buchanan
9. Benny Lynch
10. Owen Moran
Bob Fitzsimmons and Jimmy McLarnin (Northern Ireland) were British born but left so young they probably don't count but I'd imagine McLarnin could even be #1.
Great list, seems as a nation the old timers were our best fighters. Been reading about Jimmy Wilde recently and there is a strong argument that he was the best flyweight ever as well.
Where would a fighter like Randolph Turpin end up?
Lloyd Honeyghan ??? Was going to say Duke mckenzie but realised he was fighting fighters like peter buckley after having previously being world champion.
As white collar boxing doesn't have a record count, could I enter as many contests as I want? I mean free training lol.
If your refering to charity boxing, even tho its for a good cause, the £300 worth of training free is not quite true.
I could be wrong, but i think from memory, you have to put £50 up first.
average cost of amateur club in the east of england costs £3 a session. Thats 16 sessions or 2 a week. I think the charity boxing is one day a week, but once again i could be mistaken.
best way would to join an amateur boxing club. No white collar fights wont count toward any amateur record. There are plenty of clubs in the UK, google is your friend chap
Would it be punching bags though or would they make the effort to come over and offer advice if you're doing something wrong and teach you techniques?
Depends on the club you go to, I've been to clubs where they separate people on abilities and teach each group different things.
Also been to clubs where you hit the bags, shadow box ect. whilst the coach walks about and gives you advice, tips etc.
Depending on how much you want to pay, you could get one to one coaching.
Roughly what part of the uk are you based chap?
