I've been looking to become amateur for a while now and I'm getting down to it as soon as I can, but what do I do to make this happen? what is the best way? I've thought about white collar boxing but it doesn't look like it will be for me.
White collar boxing doesn't like it will be for me because I've read through various boxing clubs that host competitions and they don't even award the belt to the person who wins... they award it to whoever sells the most tickets, which I think is stupid, it isn't high school, I couldn't care for winning a popularity contest, I want a belt based on how successful I've been in the ring.
So now that's looking like it's out the window, what else can I do? If I did do white collar boxing and I do say if, would I even benefit from it? Would I get an amateur boxing profile made classifying me as 1-0? or whatever the out come is of my fight because that's what I'm looking for. It's pointless me signing up for it if it won't make me a classified amateur boxer.
Best way to become amateur? much appreciated. I'm from the UK if that helps.
Would entering one white collar boxing competition mean refusal in amateur gyms? I'm wanting to perform in front of an audience at least once before I am set up to begin my amateur career, this is because of miss matches etc, you can get coaches lying about your ability etc just to make their top fighters look good with knockouts and all of that.
As explained above, white collar boxing, losses aren't recorded so I'd like to try it first and then I'll have a better idea on if I'm any good, to go 0-1 due to a coach that's building my hopes up for their benefit wouldn't be great.
It could do, there was a guy who used to box at my gym that came in bruised up, trainer asked him where he got it then told him that he knows he was in a white collar bout and kicked him out. It's because they don't go on your record, a guy could have 15 white collar bouts then walk into an amateur gym pretending to have 0, it isn't right.
Wouldn't worry about performing infront of an audience, once you step into the ring you don't really notice them.
"before I am set up to begin my amateur career, this is because of miss matches etc, you can get coaches lying about your ability etc just to make their top fighters look good with knockouts and all of that"
You don't get coaches lying about your ability at all, you haven't even been to a gym yet so what are you talking about ?, "because of miss matches" right so you want to have unrecorded bout so you can get in the ring with some guy who has never been in front of an audience either and slap him around ?, if there's any miss matches it won't be because a gym "wants to make their top fighters look good" (:lol1::lol1::lol1:) it will be because you're better than the other guy, something genuinely went wrong with the matchmaking or because one of the people have had unrecorded fights.
You're an idiot, how does it look embarrassing asking to join a gym ?.
Many amateur places won't allow someone has done a lot of White collar to join their gym, if they recognize you.

Response to all, yeah I'm from the UK.
I think a gym where it places you into different groups depending on your ability will be best for me, obviously I'll start out in the beginners group and then I'll know I've made progress if I'm asked to move up etc.
I'm thinking about going to an amateur club and paying per single sessions until I feel I know what I'm doing and then maybe do a white collar boxing tournament so that I get a feel of what it's like to perform in front of an audience, but if at my amateur club they can get me fights then I'll do that.
The only downside of that is I wouldn't want a loss on my record if I'm not ready and my amateur coach is setting me up for a complete miss match, with white collar it wouldn't count on it so I think I'll do amateur training, white collar and then go back to amateur and then be booked for my debut match.
White collar boxing doesn't count but it is the only way to get the experience of being in a ring and performing in front of an audience.
Don't ask the gym because you want them to notice you first. It gets embarrassing looking desperate. Boxing gyms know everyone loses interest and a small minority keep grinding.

As white collar boxing doesn't have a record count, could I enter as many contests as I want? I mean free training lol.
If your refering to charity boxing, even tho its for a good cause, the £300 worth of training free is not quite true.
I could be wrong, but i think from memory, you have to put £50 up first.
average cost of amateur club in the east of england costs £3 a session. Thats 16 sessions or 2 a week. I think the charity boxing is one day a week, but once again i could be mistaken.
Would it be punching bags though or would they make the effort to come over and offer advice if you're doing something wrong and teach you techniques?
Depends on the club you go to, I've been to clubs where they separate people on abilities and teach each group different things.
Also been to clubs where you hit the bags, shadow box ect. whilst the coach walks about and gives you advice, tips etc.
Depending on how much you want to pay, you could get one to one coaching.
Roughly what part of the uk are you based chap?
Thanks for the responses guys. So if I was to join an amateur boxing club what do I expect? If it's having to punch bags until I'm noticed then that isn't for me, firstly I wouldn't spend a penny to do that as it's something you can do at home and secondly I have zero skills as a boxer, I need some form of training so I wouldn't ever be getting any better without it to catch their attention.
Surely you'll get some form of training, in small chunks? If not then white collar boxing will have to be for me as training is guaranteed.

best way would to join an amateur boxing club. No white collar fights wont count toward any amateur record. There are plenty of clubs in the UK, google is your friend chap
