I just read that Fortuna stopped Lorenzo in 3 and that now that paves the way for him to be in Martinez v. Cotto undercard. I'm just wondering who is going to get in the ring with him. Can anyone think of an opponent for him?
Diego Magdaleno, Felix-Vasquez winner, Salido all are doable
If you would read the article, he did not throw away his money he was just too stupid to keep track of it and depended on his financial advisor which for some insane reason bought all bonds with the money. He has been retired long enough to at least know what's going on with his investments. what happened to diversifying your assets?
goldenboy has all the top fighters from 140-154 and there is no arguing that
He got 5mil for pac1 4.1 mil for jmm and 6mil for pac2. Floyd doesn't pay his opponents that type of $. He has good $ HBO rematches vs Provo and Abregu waiting for him and don't discount the possibility of Cotto-Bradley at 154 on ppv
Besides a fight vs Floyd for about 3mil (less Than he got vs jmm btw) what else is there at gbp? Porter Thurman Alexander and Paulie don't make near the $ on SHO that Bradley gets on HBO (1.75 for Provo1)
How is it Groves and Froch sell out 80k sets but Pac and Bradley only settle for 15k? I know MGM is prob max 15k but why wouldn't they go for something bigger?
Groves and Froch are more popular Pac and Bradley? pac bradley had a bigger gate than Froch v Groves. Pac did 8million dollars. cheapest ticket was $250
The casinos PAY a site fee of several million for the fight to take place there whereas a fight in a standard arena/stadium the promoter has to shell out a large amount of money in costs and hire.
The casinos want the fights to draw in high rolling gamblers and increase general revenue in fight week so they will pay millions of $ to the promoter to stage the fight in their casino. Obviously this is only for certain fights with superstar boxers like Pac/Floyd etc.
For these 'superfighters' the ticket prices are insane - the cheapest ticket for Saturday was $150 and there were only about 500 of those available, the average 'cheaper' ticket was $300-400, and any lower bowl (the majorit of seats) ticket was $900-1200. Floyd/Maidana it's even crazier. The gate receipts on Saturday were around $8m (not a sellout, capacity is close to 18k) and Floyd/Maidana is already at $14m. Floyd Canelo was around $20m.
Add the site fee on to that and it's a substantial amount of money. For fights outside of Vegas, generally you can pick up cheap seats for $50 (Marquez/Alvarado there's some at $35) and ringside are $400. Even for Canelo/Angulo at the MGM there were decent-ish seats at $60 available but that fight was about perception of Canelo as a big fighter - they needed to fill the room so they priced it accordingly, i expect the Lara fight will be reasonable compared to Floyd/Pac fights too.
So bottom line is there is a different level of income to promoter/fighter by staging a fight featuring a big name in Vegas than anywhere else. For Froch/Groves the majority of seats are $50-60 and a long way from the ring - and if you compare that to an average of $400 for Saturday night then that's about 8 tickets to cover every one ticket - and the costs of putting a fight on at Wembley will be substantial, compared to actually getting paid to put a fight on at the MGM. MGM scaled to max capacity for boxing is just over 16k
Did you miss the part where it said Oscar extended Richard's contract with GBP until 2018.
I hope this is true, but I am not holding my breath.
Schafer said he didn't sign an extension. Said he had no idea what Oscar was talking about.
I'm gonna show you how business works. I'm gonna put you in your place once in for all. This is how business works. Of course Floyd makes golden boy a ton of money. How can Floyd in a way work under golden boy. Yet call oscar a f@g a crackhead and numerous other things. All while still working with him. It's the money stupid. Now fast forward to top rank they have on superstar that can sell out the MGM and in his last fight he didn't. Arum gets up there bashes the MGM and the MGM cuts ties with him. The money wasn't worth the headache. Money talk and bs walks and golden boy knows where their bread is butter. You always claim they don't make money off of Floyd when he single handled is handing them 30-50 million a fight on low end when all the revenue and corporate sponsorship is added up.
Actually Floyd pays gbp a flat fee to promote their fights. They don't participate in the profits. They don't Make much off his fights at all
It doesn't matter if Joe was going to win, I am having trouble finding more than 2 stoppages he recorded that weren't hometown refs aiding him.. Lacy..........
jmm vs sergey kovalev.....who do u think wins guys?
i like jmm in this one...but its a tossup...jmm needs to grow a pair and make this
I favor Jmm too. I've also been wondering who would win between Chocolatito and Mayweather, Rigo and Andre Ward and Bradley vs Marco Huck
Bradley will next make more money than Guerrero and Maidana got for fighting Floyd, combined thats what i am saying. He got almost as much for the first manny fight as guerrero and ortiz got combined for floyd. Clottey even got as much fighting manny as guerrero got for floyd. i don't get all this talk about these companies not paying great. if they didn't no one would sign or sign extensions. Even Alvarado held out and got like 1.3mil for Provodnikov. That is pretty good money IMO. It is more than paulie and zab got combined for their fight if you look at that perspective or more than double what lara and trout got combined for their fight
NO comparison between the two ... As already stated, one is a Manager and the other is a Promoter.
In this case, the Manager is put in place to ensure the Promoter doesn't screw over the Boxer contractually. Haymon is on his clients side and he works for them, that's why his clients take home more of the accumulated revenue. Because he prevents the Promoter from hogging all the profits and keeping it within the promotional company.
In the case of Arum, he is acting as both Promoter and Manager for his contracted fighters. And IMHO he is robbing them blind. I wished Pac had the intestinal fortitude to leave Arum, because he is the one being screwed over the most.
Finally: Boxer's that have Haymon as management will tell you straight up that Haymon's got their back and that's why so many are starting to flock to him.
Arum is just a lighter tanned Don King. Tim Bradley said hes thankful for the tons of money he has made from Top Rank. I think Pac gives a lot of his money away and doesn't invest it right
Elaborate?
Ortiz and Guerrero got a low pay day, they were never on PPV before. They likely left with $4-6mill. Guerrero had a guarantee of $3mill, so he likely got another $2-3 mill with PPV
Mayweather got 20% split vs DLH, agreed for Hatton to get full rights to UK PPV, which sold 2.1million. Mosley got a big pay day, Cotto got a huge pay day around $15mill, Canelo made around $12million. Considering who had to get paid in that card, Garcia, Matthysse, Smith, Molina and of course Mayweather, making $12million is a large check.
Considering who has to get paid in Mayweather cards and how much he has to get paid, I don't know how he's a cheapskate. Don't forget having undercards like Canelo vs Mosley(May vs Cotto), Mares vs PDL, Garcia vs Matthysse, ends up costing several million dollars in total. And this is Mayweather's call to put these fighters on his undercards and give them a piece of the PPV pie. So cheapskate? Don't know about that.
Guerrero and Ortiz didn't get any ppv upside. Just a flat fee. Cotto only got the ppv $ for PR. No other upside. That's how Floyd rolls. he can get away with it so why not?
Stupid move if he extends but I still have hopes for Tim. GB has a lot of opponents to offer, lots. Other than the Pacquiao rematch he doesn't have much left with TR.
If his minimums go up how is it stupid? With the exception of a Floyd fight not one of GBs fights pay as much as a Manny or JMM rematch and Floyd would pay him less than what he gets for Manny. What about a Cotto fight at 150?
GB or any other promotor would want to extend before matching a fighter with their #1 attraction. It's all business. Timmy will ask for and should get a significant raise.
Why would Bradley wanna leave Top Rank?
Top Rank has turned him into almost a house hold name. 2 PPV's and 2013 FOTY. He got at least $5 mill for the Pacquiao fight and $1 mill for JMM
If he rematches Pac he'll get at least $6 million
If he signs with GPB and fights Floyd, he'll get between what Ortiz and Guerrerro got $2-3 million and he'll sit on the shelf cuz GBP doesn't know sh*t about building a star (Canelo, Broner, Mares, etc)
He got 4.1mil for Jmm. Jmm got 6mil for Bradley. I doubt Floyd pays him more than 5mil.
Rigo is a cool ass dude. He knows what goes on in Boxing, a lot of people got upset when he stated that before the Donaire fight that Nonito fought nothing but bums. He called Arce a old lady, Narveaz a midget, some tall black guy who can't punch Mathebula and a Chinese guy with *****y eyes who was Nashioka who is Japanese haha. In English translation it sounds offensive but in Cuban slang this is how they talk.
Arum is a piece of crap. You got a fighter like Rigondeaux who has fought his whole life, escape from Cuba and risk his life just to make it to the US to fight the best fighters in the world and get $$$$. Give this man fights and you will see he will gain fans. In his 12th pro fight he embarrassed Nonito who was considered P4P. His 12th pro fight haha arums paying rigo more than anyone on golden boys card is getting tomorrow. How is that bad treatment lol?
And you are a nearly 50 yrs.old ugly looking, fat, out of shape virgin. Stop defending this crook. Mayweather and De La Hoya made more money after they leave top rank.
TR built Oscar Floyd and Cotto into stars. That's why cotto is back. He's 0-2 under the gbp banner
gbp does treat its fighters better. they paid Robert guerrero 1 million dollars for the berto fight. they paid danny Garcia 1.5 million for the matthysse fight. they paid malignaggi 1 million dollars for the broner fight. top rank would never hand out those type of paydays too those fighters. and lara being a tough sell is a fact. and bob arum said the same thing about rigodeaux being a tough sell, so whats your point?
Rios got 4mil for PAC. Ortiz and ghost got way less than that to fight Floyd. TR pays mannys opponents way more than Floyd's opponents get.
The last 5 GBP vs TR fights were:
Hopkins-Pavlik
Mosley-Margarito
De La Hoya-Pacquiao
Gamboa-Ponce De Leon
Lara-Martirosyan
Except for De La Hoya-Pacquiao (where TR had everything to gain) and Lara-Martirosyan (a final WBC eliminator for Canelo), the fights featured TR having the heavy betting favorite against GBP's underdog taking place on Top Rank cards because they refuse to co-promote.
Top Rank preferred to have Donaire fight a phenom in Rigondeaux for around $1-1.5M instead of having him fight on a GBP card against Mares (where Nonito would've been the betting favorite) for $3M. It's been clear to me that Bob Arum wants nothing to do with GBP without there being heavy incentive.
U forgot manny pacs vs Ricky hatton and all those except Gambia-ponce and Lara-vanes were co promotions
It's digusting that Pacquiao can make that much money even though he was unofficially beat by Marquez who made probably 3-4 mil.
actualy he made 8-10 million after his ppv split
it's all about ticket prices. i seriosly doubt they'll price the tickets so low that they sell 80K of them. there will undoubtedly be an element of mexican americans who will go to a canelo fight in the area regardless, but a lot of boxing fans are going to get tired of his antics. khan at least had a name. liam smith isn't even the best boxer in his family :lol1:
They are on ticketmaster from $40-750. I think the trout and Kirkland fights both had $15 seats. $40 is a lot for a nosebleed in stadium that big
Stevenson-Williams has war written all over it even if it might not last long. Crawford-Postol seems like it'll be more of a chess match but it's a great matchup.
What's gonna be the better fight? Adonis KO's Williams in three or less
I said I wasnt paying for this fight since arum anf HBO trying to shove Crawford down ur throat. Was going to stream it for free but as the fight gets closer starting to think if I should order it. Just wondering how many of u are ordering it.
I already ordered it to watch valdez
Boxing has been out of sight out of mind of many sports fans outside of the biggest fights for a couple decades. Meanwhile MMA has been on free TV in various forms for a couple decades.
You reap what you sow & boxing hasn't given a f#ck about sports fans in forever. Their only focus has been on hardcore fans & those with some extra money to spend on cable, HBO & Showtime & the random PPV a couple times a year. PBC is helping change that dynamic, but it'd be silly to think anything is changing in a year or two when sports fans haven't been connected to this sport in a couple decades or for some younger fans ever.
hell yeah! that badass pbc on spike card featuring robert guerrero vs an argentine and the resurgent alfredo angulo vs the even more resurgent freddy hernandez is gonna bring fans back to the sport!!!!!!
You joke but the reality is most MMA fans didn't know 75% of the people fighting on this UFC card. I'd bet 90%+ didn't know who Holm was fighting. Fighting is appealing. Names don't mean as much as people think. Names get built and names fall all the time.
The thing is most sports fans don't know ANY active boxers any damn way. So making some Thurman vs Brook vs Spence round robin wouldn't mean f#ck all except to the hardcore fans who would watch all 3 of those guys vs 2nd rate contenders.
Some of you guys don't realize boxing failing or succeeding on national TV has nothing to do with hardcore fans like virtually everyone here. It has to do with recapturing sports fans imagination with boxing again and that was never going to happen quickly. And it has nothing to do with the best fights cuz the names in those fights mean nothing to the non hardcore fans who have barely watched boxing over the last 2 decades and like I said most have never watched boxing. Thurman or Joe Smith or Spence or Aron Martinez are all new names to them.
of course i was joking and actually with both angulo and hernandez shot beyond belief that fight is actually and even match up. I can't say the same for the main event. It is one sided fights like Lara Rodriguez that potential new fans run away.
The sad thing is with what you said about the UFC card they still blew away Deontay Wilder's ratings with no name fighters for the most part. Why? Because the fans are familiar with the UFC name and know what types of fights they bring.
The UFC is perceived as cool and hip while boxing is perceived to be boring. Besides Manny and Floyd and a few people knowing who Canelo or Cotto is, 99% of sports fans who are casual at most boxing fans can't name one other single fighter. They don't know who Thurman, Garcia or Crawford is. Holm going into that fight was coming off a loss even when she blacked out against Tate.
The only way to slowly build the fan base is to make more 50-50 type fights with good action
How do you know what Haymon's protocal is..??
haymon doesn't let his fighters sign promotional contracts. the only fighters he has with promotional contracts had the contracts prior to signing with al
Floyd isn't THAT different. There are lotsa guys who arent with Haymon but signed with PBC promoters. I don't see why Schaefer wouldn't be able to do the same. Ultimately Haymon can't sign everyone. The critical mass of talent that PBC needs will largely grow from here in via his network of promoters and Haymon cherry picking the cream of the crop.
I just don't get why Haymon is shelving so many of his fighters. Not sure why he is punishing them. I mean I get Devon Alexander. He's been on a downward spiral and Porter I though should have got an interim fight when keef got hurt but even before it was scheduled for March originally these guys should have got Nov/Dec fights.
Then guys like Danny Jacobs off his big win, Lamont Peterson, Peter Quillin off just his first career loss will all have been on ice over 9 months even they finally fight. Jacobs shouldn't have been punished after that ko.
Then his favorites like Deontay and LSC are Bout to have their 2nd fights of the year way before these guys get their first why is he being a diick to them?
Floyd isn't THAT different. There are lotsa guys who arent with Haymon but signed with PBC promoters. I don't see why Schaefer wouldn't be able to do the same. Ultimately Haymon can't sign everyone. The critical mass of talent that PBC needs will largely grow from here in via his network of promoters and Haymon cherry picking the cream of the crop.
And he is different In that Floyd's non haymon guys bey Gavril jack etc fight in PBC cards all the time. You see dibella have to use shobox or his broadway boxing cards for his non haymon guys. Not the same with Floyd
