"Let's be honest, if you look at the fighters today, he belongs at the top of the pound-for-pound list," Arum said. "He's so skilled. If you look at his style, it's not the most scintillating. One thing, he appears like all Cuban athletes to be very arrogant. And there's a language barrier. It's one thing to be arrogant in English. If someone has to translate, it doesn't play as well."
The key to building Rigondeaux, Arum said, is putting him in with opponents who can force him to fight. On Saturday, Rigondeaux will defend his super bantamweight titles against former bantamweight titleholder Joseph Agbeko at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City (HBO, 9:45 p.m.)
"Putting him on an HBO card is not easy," Arum said. "I have to make fights that are very difficult for him. And hopefully he comes through."
Interesting article. Arum talks about how he's a big **** talker but it gets lost in translation. Also said the key is to put him in difficult fights.

Skills wise, yes.
Resume wise, no.
I'm a Rigo-tard, but I even the performance against Donaire doesn't merit top 5 P4P, in my eyes.
He needs to add on to that brilliant effort.
Hope he does so tomorrow.

He'll have money in his pocket, enough to live comfortably with an extension. He just won't be seen much on TV which would be a good thing for me personally.
I don't like his style or personality. An all around boring fighter.
Nobody is forcing to keep the channel on.

And about you only anybody can be entertaining against bum champions watch him against Rico Ramos and Willie Casey, you just sound like another butthurt dominated Nonito fan . Rigo like every other master defensive fighter will always be successful because winning > everything else just ask Floyd all you gotta do is be good enough to always beat the best and the rest eventually come no matter the haters or if you win on points .

I hope he is doing this to trick Rigo into signing another extension and then ****ing him over and throwing him in the shelf to collect dust lol. I hate Rigo.

After he sh*ts on him and blames it on hbo which was news to hbo the b/s he said btw he was just butth*rt his cash cow got derailed but shouldn't take it out on a fighter you are supposed to be promoting and exalting not minimizing. Not to mention Rigo has never been arrogant he was being dismissed on the fight anybody would have said told you so b*tch after the win just because he can sh*t on him he does that b/s . That being said i hope to god Rigo gets rid of Bob and tries GBP for a while they have good stuff at super bantam.

you're crazy if you don't think rigondeaux's style hurts his billing.
Rigo made 750k against donaire. Thats pretty much what Matthysse made against Danny Garcia. Thats pretty good considering Matthysse was one of the hottest knock out artists at the time. Nonito and garcia made the same too i think (1.2mil?). Rigo also makes more than the other more "exciting" smaller guys (mares, leo santa cruz, frampton, etc). I dont think his style hurts him as much as people think.
And who are the other 122 pound fighters that have headlined fights over the past 5-8 years? Donaire and Juanma? And they were getting dates because they had countries behind them. And lets not act like they were selling out stadiums and generating 1.5 million viewers.
If Rigo was a Juanma punching machine HBO and Arum wouldn't criticize him as much but he also wouldn't be a 2X gold medalist, undefeated, a unified champion, a pound for pound fighter and a world champion in 12 fights. So it goes both ways. And he would be fighting for even less money, would likely have losses and wouldn't be headlining anything.
Plenty of fighters with defensive styles make money. Rigondeaux's probably making more than every "exciting" fighter in his weight division.
Language and weight have a lot more to do with his struggle to draw than his style.
Rigo makes more money than Abner Mares and Leo Santa Cruz. LOL

Rigo's style is not the most appealing to the casuals so I see why his fights would be hard to sell. Arum should do with him what GBP does with Floyd Mayweather, stack his undercards & take advantage of cultural settings.
Gamboa would work in conjunction if he can stay focused.
In all seriousness, people need to get off the hating on Nonito ducking Rigo. I mean didn't Nonito have his dad in his corner in his last fight? So how is Nonito suppose to fight and have Rigo in his corner at the same time:pat:
Definitely not style. Dude is slick as hell and knocks people out. Far less entertaining fighters are stars.
Language and division. The division hurts a lot, too. People don't like small guys.

Rigo is a cool ass dude. He knows what goes on in Boxing, a lot of people got upset when he stated that before the Donaire fight that Nonito fought nothing but bums. He called Arce a old lady, Narveaz a midget, some tall black guy who can't punch Mathebula and a Chinese guy with *****y eyes who was Nashioka who is Japanese haha. In English translation it sounds offensive but in Cuban slang this is how they talk.
Arum is a piece of crap. You got a fighter like Rigondeaux who has fought his whole life, escape from Cuba and risk his life just to make it to the US to fight the best fighters in the world and get $$$$. Give this man fights and you will see he will gain fans. In his 12th pro fight he embarrassed Nonito who was considered P4P. His 12th pro fight haha arums paying rigo more than anyone on golden boys card is getting tomorrow. How is that bad treatment lol?
Arum said something about Cuban resentment, like Americans still have a bitter view of Cubans because of communist Castro in general.
He would get pushed more or sure. Look at that one black American guy Terence Crawford that Arum and HBO push hard he isn't super exciting he is a technician like Rigo but not as crisp as Rigo is and HBO and Arum praise this guy hard.
That's a bullsh1t analysis by Bob Arum if he said something like that. If so, then the Cuban baseball players in the major leagues wouldn't be getting embraced like they are now by Americans. Arum is probably trying to bank in on the possible fact of Cuba being available to the open market with the U.S. in the future. He should've been saying this after Rigo kicked Nonito's a$$.

Oh yea... I forgot about those haha. I remember when he said that sh*t about Nishioka and people got offended, started calling him racist.

Language barrier more so than style.
If he was Dontae Rigondeaux from Brooklyn or Philly he would be a star.
