Then in other words, king believes that this would be THE greatest fight ever, or the one fight that everybody would pay for. No other reason that he would throw out a number that eclipses every other superfight ever held.
I call B.S. No way it happens. Not really a super fight either. Who really believes that the K brothers would really try to hurt each other. IF they ever matched up, it'll be like a nice sparring session. They love each other more than they love the $.
Almost every boxer has heart. The exception are the professional losers.
But here's one that comes to my mind quick....Joe Frazier. he got up 6 times in his first fight with Big George, then signed to fight him again later on. Kept getting up then too. Massive balls.
"Destroy"? No, he doesn't hit hard enough to "destroy". Outpoint and outbox....possibly.
Destroy to me means carried out on a stretcher or ruined by the beating.
I would like to have Henry Armstrong vs Julio C. Chavez or Armstrong vs Roberto Duran at 147.
Also Harry Greb vs Stanley Ketchel.
Larry Holmes vs Lennox Lewis is another one I would have liked to see.
Just for fun, Roy Jones vs Earnie Shavers. Only an inch difference in height for Shavers.
Was looking around & just saw this.
I read somewhere that Wilfred Scypion SR is suffering from the effects of his boxing career. I don't think he's as bad as Wilfred Benitez or Bobby Chacon, but still, it's still sad when these great warriors suffer later in life from too many head shots.
You only realised how good Larry is until he is gone :(
I agree. I like Merchant a lot, especially the way he asked such direct & pointed questions in the post fight interview.
But I like Kellerman also. So either way, I'm happy. They're both good, even with different styles.
I'm picking Joe Louis.
If Roy Jones was at his peak and weighed in the high 180's or low 190's, this would be BY FAR Joe's hardest fight to win. Styles make fights, and Louis was flustered by clever boxers. RJ is more disciplined than to outbox him for 11 rounds and then go for broke in search of a KO.
But I'm still picking Louis. Fast hands, great finsher and he's not revered as a pound for pound great for nothing.
Muhammad Ali did better with fighters with Joe Louis's style than Joe Louis did with fighters of Ali's style. What I mean is Ali could outbox those hard hitters (Cleveland Williams, Sonny Liston, Earnie Shavers, Ken Norton, Ron Lyle) easier it seemed than Joe Louis fought boxers (Schmeling, Billy Conn).
I pick Ali.
Lacy needs just a little more seasoning and some more name recognition. He's the next generation. Jones and Trinidad are the last of their generation.
I don't know if the two will ever meet.
I think that most people I know thought Hamed was a great character and a better boxer....but somewhere along the way the cockiness and self belief turned to arrogance, and thats when instead of wanting to see him win I along with a lot of others could'nt wait to see him get knocked the fuck out....
That says exactly why I didn't care for him. One of the most arrogant fighters who never seemed like he had even an ounce of nice in him.
Wlad has 44 KOs in 52 fights for a .84% KO rate.
LL has 32 Ko's in 44 fights for a ,72% KO rate.
That's just for fights, it doesn't take into consideration the opponants or how durable they were.
PS-I'm not that smart. I telephoned my kids with the numbers and they figured it out. I'm not real good at all with numbers.
I constantly hear people talk about gatti and how he was an exciting fighter that was never really able to get to the mainstream fan and never was very as popular as he should have been.
What people dont realize is that before Gatti-Ward I,II,and III, and before Gatti arrived on the scene, Boxing in ATLANTIC CITY and FOXWOODS was all but dead.
But now, a near capacity crowd shows up for every event, even the ESPN fight cards.
The guy is almost solely responsible for the ressurection of boxing in two states, conneticut and new jersey. thats something to be proud of
You are right.
He started out as a teen in trouble with the law, supposedly because he had no money and had to steal. Then, he makes millions of dollars and a normal person would think that he was now set for life. Who of us would ever have money problems again if WE had that kind of money? He ends his career and a short time later, he is just like he was when he first laced em up...a criminal.
I'm a big Jones fan, but all this weight gain, weight loss, weight gain, weight loss, this division, that division...how can that be good for his body?
If he thinks he can do it, then he can. He knows his body best. But I still think that the big weight loss after Ruiz played a part in his "KO by...." losses.
