Margarito has heart.yes.
But he does not deserve respect. He tried to load his gloves, maybe he actually suceeded before, we dont know. If he hadnt got caught and really hurt mosley would u still b askin for us to give him respect.
Just watch assault in the ring
The reality of the situation is that if Pacquaio wins then he will obviously continue to fight at a catchweight.
My take on it is this, you want to be a welterweight then fight at the WW limit. If you wanna b a light welter or whatever then fight at that limit. The sanctioning bodies are now creating belts to cater for all this catchweight bullshit. Its not good for the sport. There's enough divisions as it is, catchweights are unnecessary. Y does he want to be able to claim that he won belts in 7 weight divisions when he wont fight at the 7th divisions limit.
I agree with the original poster, a Cotto win would be better for boxing. A Pac win would set up a superfight with Floyd, which would be good- but would also most likely b a catchweight fight. If Cotto wins its WW's fightin WW's at the WW limit an theres no need for diamond belts an whatever other bullshit the abc's are dreamin up to milk the situation
The Floyd Part - I agree, the closer the fight to 135 the more the weight disadvantage is ashared between the wtwo fighters suggesting it will be a fairer match
Cotto Part - Only if he wins, if he wins close to 140 it means he had the weight disadvantage and still won. If he loses Pacquaio get little credit from real boxing fans for winnin.
If Cotto loses thats a ready made excuse. My feelin about the Cotto fight is that 145 is not too much of a concession in terms of weight especially since he weighed in 146 for his last fight. Anything below that I wont respect Pac for, but since its at 145 I accept the outcome and IMO the winner wins on merit. No weight issues.
Vote Winky, just coz I like him. I also think he is the hardest to beat on that list.
Honorable mention to Pacquaio and Whitaker (though I think he's slightly overrated)
I havent watched that much of Hagler so I didnt even consider him
The media are always favourable toward Pac, so is the casual fan. He is more likeable than Floyd to the average person. Because they like him they start to think so highly of him, they forget that he can be beaten. All the shit ppl tlk about hw he's gna destroy Cotto is bullshit. Cotto's a powerful A level fighter and it wont b an easy match under any circumstances.
Floyd's a level above Cotto IMO and I would favor him over Pac if he's still the Floyd of old
i agree floyd is a level above cotto in boxing ability but i wouldn't be surprised if cotto beat him..cotto is dominant when he stalks and walks down his opponents and that's what i see him doing against floyd..floyd is a small welter and won't be able to make cotto fight while backing up
Cotto - Floyd H2H is a completely diff. matter altogether. As for skill Floyd is a level above. I think a Floyd - Cotto would b intriguing
Its selling the fights well so we cant complain, plus it gives you a better insight into the lives of the fighters (not that it really matters).
Its gets high ratings so its here to stay. I like it. Long may it continue
First OF all the consensus greatest is Ali, that alone says something.
Can he be the greatest ever ? YES !!!!! if he cleans out the WW div. and maybe a JMW or 2
Will he ever be acknowledged as the greatest? NO, he's not likeable enough, so (especially white) people are reluctant to give him his due. To get all those boxing experts to get off Ali's nuts is something only God can do.
His skills put him up there as one of the greatest ever. If he cleans out the WW's there'd b no denying him.
P.S Floyd is a much better fighter than Ali
Welters were a lot bigger then, I dont think he would have fought at Welter at all, he probably would have only gone up as far as 140.
I think Floyd has a tremendous will to win and does whatever it takes. He makes ajustments when necessary and is comfortable fighting in a variety of styles. I pick him to hold his own against anyone from the 80's
Dirrell vs Abraham is the most interesting, simply because there are so many questions sorrounding two boxers, mainly
Can Dirrell hande power ?
Can Abraham handle slick boxers ?
It is truly a pickem fight, either a Dirrell decision or and Abraham KO
If people actually bothered to look throught the 'i fight for my fans' 'i fight to be the greatest' rhetoric they would realise that all these fan friendly boxers (Oscar, Manny, SSM etc) are no different to the Mayweathers, they just sell themselves differently.
Pac is no better a human being than Floyd. I didnt wanna bring this up but he cheated on his wife on two diff. occassions now (she said so herself), is a POSSIBLE steroid cheat and has had the benefit of great matchmaking in the last 2 yrs or so. He is only human, just because he refrains from trash talking, braggin etc it does not mean he's any better, it just means he's a fan friendly fighter. Floyd , Roger, Floyd Sr, Toney, Hopkins and all the other guys y'all hate all have their shortcomings too.
Bottom line. Manny is no God, he does the same shit that Floyd and all other boxers do
P.S I cant believe ppl believe some fighters dont care about money at all, just legacy. LOLLLLL
IMO Mosley can push it to 55/45 in favor of PBF. We all know that Mayweather right now needs Mosley more.
MOsley is the one who's been inactive for 12 mnths now, cant sell a PPV and is at the tail end of his career, he needs Floyd more
Floyd can fight any1 and it wud b on PPV. Yes, he would make less money but he will also guarantee himself $10 mil plus if he fights a decent fighter (Cintron, or a 154 fighter)
I would like to see a Pacquaio fan defend this WITH LOGIC
We dont know that whatever Atlas is saying is true but there;s just waaaaayyyyy to many things wrong for any logical person to defend Team Pacquaio's actions
Still I expect some1 to come in this thread and say its obvious Floyd didnt want the fight or Floyd's duckin or some other BS along those line
The facts speak for themselves
@ threadstarter
STFU. We're only 10 days in and already some1 else is comin with this boxin is dying bullshit
If Floyd and Manny dont fight, some other guys will
It would have been a big fight but Ah well, the sport lives on from Floyd and Manny like it moved on from Leonard-Duran-Hearns-Hagler, Ali-Foreman-Frazier etc
So all that this year is shit tlk is BS
I'm tired of Eddie Hearn and his conman tricks
This is not a PPV/Sky Box Office quality fight. The WW division is stacked...there's no reason why Frankie Gavin should be getting a title shot except that Hearn knows he can use the Sky marketing machine to con fans into thinking this is a worthy 'domestic rivalry'
Amir Khan rightly got criticized for the Algeri fight....Brook/Hearn deserve even more criticism for fighting Jo Jo Dan & then Frankie Gavin...while parading as a legit world champion!
I'm with most of you guys in not being all that impressed with what Matchroom has done. You have to remember that Sky have basically handed their entire boxing budget to Matchroom and gone as far as using other Sky channels & programs including Sky Sports News, Soccer AM & Sky 1 to promote Matchroom fighters.
What we're seeing is a desire to milk the audience. They probably have a plan to put a predetermined number of PPV's out per year and are gonna make fights PPV to fulfil that quota whether the main fight is worth it or not. I understand the need for boxing fans to pay for content for the sport to remain sustainable but I'm a much bigger fan of box nation that Sky's boxing coverage.
For £10 I get all the big fights Boxnation can put on in a month. With PBC's introduction and everyone else seeming to step their game up, there's good fights on nearly every week now. the £10 is well worth paying. ITV's free coverage supplements that. Atm it just seems Sky's overly focused on manufacturing and selling 'domestic rivalries' even when there are better fights to be made. If its not that then they're padding their fighters' records, hardly any must watch fights on there!
Duva took a risk to further Kovalev's career. They took very short money to make the Hopkins fight and it's reaping its rewards now.
Golovkin's people are happy for him to feast on bums for decent pay whilst hoping for a hand out from a big PPV star. They're showing no urgency because they're getting good enough money from HBO to broadcast this mismatches.
EXACTLY!!
But the other side of it all is that Kovalev isn't really building a base. He's fighting tough away fight after tough away fight and getting paid no more than Glolovkin is.
When it's all said and done, and even now, Golovkin will be the bigger draw even though he's basically fought no worthy competition
On the internet GGG wins every virtual fight by KO
I think he beats both Lee & Qullin tho. He'd probably do to Lee what Chavez did to him. Quillin's not that good, GGG would eventually get to him.
But both guys (esp Quillin) have enough skill to possibly create some openings and really test GGG's chin. But then again neither's power was enough to knock the other out so GGG could probably take their power. Lee's boxing ability, southpaw stance and counter punching could also take GGG a little while to figure out.
And yea, I agree, both guys would be his toughest test to date (altho I think has a good chance at beating Quillin & Lee h2h )
This isnt a knock on him because he's clearly the rightful ruler of the division...but the division can't get as exciting as it cud be while he's still around.
If Wlad wasnt around its likely that Fury, Povetkin & maybe someone else would also be champs and we'd be talking about big unification fights. We all know the champion vs champion fights sell the best. The emergence of big HW prospects/champs in America, the UK & Eastern Europe at the same time could bring back the global prestige of being a HW champ.
While he's here he beats his opponents before they get a chance to be a really big star...so basically there are no HW superfights possible except maybe Wlad-Wilder
