For me i think if he has it in him to get a fight with boxers that are a real threat to him, and not just beat 1 but keep going, for me if he could beat Manny, Cotto, Mosley, and maby chuck in a Margarito (legit handraps) i would have to say he is the greatest boxer there has been, the mans skills amaze me just the way he dont get touched yea he isnt the most likeable character or the most explosive boxer out there but i just admire his skills and the way he pretty much backs up all the mouth.
what do you lot think ?
MY SHITS PAYED FOR IS YOURS ?
With wins over Manny, Mosely, and the 160 Champion, he would have a claim to the title. But I dout he would take all these major risks do.
Still Mayweather is a ATG........
How could an ATG have so many question marks during his career? ATG = NO DOUBTS, NO QUESTIONS.
Mayweather - Coulda, Shoulda, Woulda.

yes ...the greatest cherrypicker all time!
Hahahaha! Good one.
To the TS question - NEVER! Not even the best of his era. Whoever thinks so is delusional.
The same with the other thread around asking if Pacquiao could be the greatest ever. Same answer - NEVER.
I find it damn near impossible for a modern day fighter to become the Greatest or even close.....you can't become the greatest fighting 2-3 times a year at the highest level, and sometimes not even at that....how can guys today compare to monsters like Ali, SRR, Duran, Armstrong, ect....who were getting in the ring with killers all year long, now it's too much about the money.....not saying back then guys weren't thinking about the money, but they were aiming at glory no doubt
I don't think there are enough opponents around for him to genuinely top guys like Robinson, Ali, Armstrong, etc..
Beating Mosley, Pacquiao & maybe Cotto would place him above Whitaker as the greatest post-80s boxer though in my opinion.
(copied & pasted with minor alterations from my post here :D)
from from being the greatest. not even in this era. he has a lot of options in a welterweight division but he wouldnt even want to touch any welterweight boxers right now. how can you make him the best in this era if the last 2 fights he had wasnt even in a welterweight division? he may be undefeated but he is not looking for any challenge. he is looking for easy fights. he could have fought some of the welterweight top boxers but as you know he isn't looking to fight any of them. i dont hate Mayweather. he is a skilled defensive boxer but we all know he isn't boxing. he is running even against smaller JMM. FLoyd fans keep saying he could KO JMM, if he wanted to, he could beat Mosley, Cotto, Margarito etc. and easily beat Manny but you cannot back up you claim. How can you hit a fighter when most of the time he spend in the ring is running around and waiting for the guy to open up and take a potshots or some jabs. is that what you all call boxing skills? i think not. he may be as good as you all think but he has to prove it in the boxing ring.
too late for him. you can't become the greatest before the end of ur career. this is determined by looking at all of ur career and he wasted way too much time.
So for all u nuthuggers...MAYWEATHER WILL NEVER BECOME THE ATG. so give it a rest
Its tough to see any current boxer as being the greatest. Its easier to see in hindsight. For Mayweather to be on that level I feel he would have to face and beat the Pac/Cotto winner and Shane Mosley. Even then maybe winning a title at 160lbs would be called for. Lastly I think Mayweather would have to lose at some point. Epic losses in the career of greats somtimes helps define how one deals with adversity. Dude has had some already like breaking his hand in a fight with lots of rounds to go but has never had to come back after a loss.
First OF all the consensus greatest is Ali, that alone says something.
Can he be the greatest ever ? YES !!!!! if he cleans out the WW div. and maybe a JMW or 2
Will he ever be acknowledged as the greatest? NO, he's not likeable enough, so (especially white) people are reluctant to give him his due. To get all those boxing experts to get off Ali's nuts is something only God can do.
His skills put him up there as one of the greatest ever. If he cleans out the WW's there'd b no denying him.
P.S Floyd is a much better fighter than Ali

to become the greatest, he'd have to clean out 147, then beat atleast 2 of the best 154 lbers, then steal the title at 160
i think the biggest threat to floyd would be clottey and paul williams, but i think pac and cotto would have a chance of beating him as well. mosleys gettin old and i dont see him beating floyd. the thing is, we just havnt seen him tested by the best.
floyd the greatest? wow thats a stretch. maybe in the top 25.
