I would prefer for him to stay. This is what is going to show if he's a true champion or not.
Before the Abraham fight, everyone was giving him 'one more chance'. A true champion comes back after all of his chances are gone, after everyone tells him to retire, quit, stop fighting etc.
Jones got KTFO by Tarver in 2 rounds, lost the rubbermatch, got KTFO by Johnson in 9 rounds, lost an embarrassing 12 round dec to Calzaghe...And Still comes back! that's a true champ.
Now nobody cares about Taylor being in the Tourney anymore. But honestly, now that he's basically out of chances according to a lot of his fans, and media, i want to see how he reacts now that everyone has absolutely erased him off the map and sees him as a fighter who will get KTFO from now on.
This is where we will see the REAL Jermain Taylor.
If he wants to quit, then whatever, i'm still a fan and good luck to him in his retirement.
I might agree with you if the man's long term health wasn't on the line.
He's very young at 31, has young kids and plenty of money in the bank. The only thing to keep him going at this point is pride, and that's not worth getting seriously hurt for IMO.
AA may look come off like a psychotic serial killer with that sly smile of his and creepy one line responses, but he is always respectful of his opponents outside the ring and for that he gets my respect.
For all the punishment I've seen Jermain take, and punches that he didn't see coming, that punch shouldn't have knocked him out. I think it's more Jermian's career coming to an end, because i think he is getting knocked out way too easy and he is getting a concussion too easily. I want him to retire
It was a straight right from a heavy puncher square on the chin, and he didn't see it coming. A shot like that will knock almost anyone out. The point of the chin is the worst place to get hit because it provides the most leverage to slam the brain into the back of the skull, which is what causes KOs and concussions.
Was a hard fight to score and I stopped trying after a few rounds (I usually score on a rewatch). But I obviously had enough sense to know that going into the 12th Taylor would need a KO to win.
Abraham's got like a 20 inch torso that he guards with his forearms that together are about 12 inchs across and probably 24 inches from the elbow to the tip of his glove. Nothing Taylor could do about it.
If he was gonna hit him low though, he should've made it count.
Did you or did you not see Dirrell land a series of huge, unanswered shots on Froch?
Does Froch pride himself on retreating to the ropes and covering up?
No, he prides himself on being a ballsy, come forward fighter who likes to engage.
Then why did he stumble halfway across the ring, back against the ropes, covering up while Dirrell was unloading on him? Because he was HURT, that's why.
The TS is an idiot.
How this fight could be scored for Froch is ridiculous... Dirrell fought an ugly fight, but he controlled the pace, he landed more punches in virtually every round, landed the harder punches at times, esp late in the fight, and had Froch hurt on a couple occasions.
Stealing a title fight from someone simply because you don't like their style is fukking pathetic. Froch may have pushed the action but he was completely ineffective in the ring tonight.
I definitely wouldn't mind seeing Taylor retire after this. The ending to most fighters' careers is sad and disappointing, and this would be no exception, but it's better to get out while you can still feed yourself make it to the bathroom without help from a nurse's aid. Taylor has his young kids to think about.
Plus I'm not sure I can handle watching any more of his fights, especially if/when he goes on to fight Kessler. It's like watching a train wreck when one of your friends is on board.
Taylor's only chance at beating Ward is by KO. Ward is a defensive fighter and Taylor can't solve defense fighters (see Hopkins, Wright, Spinks, Abraham).
Taylor's only chance to win on the cards is by hoping to match his speed, timing him and putting him on the canvas a couple times. I think it's possible, but unlikely.
Oh, and go back to Pat Burns.
It was daft putting him in with one of the bigger hitters in the tourney first up.
Abraham's KO's can be sickening at times.
That's 2/3 Americans in the tourney now with a loss and unlikely to win now.
At least one American will be in the semi finals, since there are four spots and only three Euros.
I will say this though, I don't see Andre Ward posing anywhere near the same risk that Abraham did.
That is the only nagging thought I have that would want him to carry on for at least one more fight, but then I remember he has Kessler in the next fight after that...
Who was the idiot that suggested JT as a one of the participants in the tournament ?
He shouldn't have been here in the 1st place, it's not a Super 6 without Pascal and Bute, two champions in the division. It's a fraud to call it super 6 and 2 non champions are participating, Dirrell and Taylor.
Pascal has a LHW belt, genius.
Yea, if I recall correctly Abraham was fresh off of a fight.
AA had just fought Oral about two weeks prior to the shoot and Taylor had been vacationing for 2 months. And when Taylor vacations, he definitely does not watch his weight.
that's my only worry about abraham.
i pick him to win the super six based on skills , power and chin.
however when i saw their photo shoot and saw him with the other 5 guys i realized how short arthur is compared to the others.
abraham is not what he is listed and it seems like all the others are what they are listed or taller.
Abraham is listed at 5'10" but by all accounts is closer to 5'9".
Taylor is a tall 6'0", if not 6'1".
What is most obvious about the photos of AA with the rest of the Super Six isn't just his overall height though, it's shoulder height.

See what I'm talking about?
This fight will probably go one of two ways.
Like Froch/Taylor, where Taylor completely gasses after 8 and gets KO'd.
Or like Taylor/Lacy, where Taylor keeps the shorter man at a distance with his jab for 12 rounds and manages to avoid being hit with big shots to win a wide decision.
The main caveat with the first option is that Abraham doesn't pressure his opponents as steadily as Froch, so Taylor is somewhat less likely to tire.
The main caveat with the second option is that Abraham is a more accurate power puncher than Jeff Lacy, so Taylor will have to work harder at avoiding his shots.
what dreadful posters there are on this forum bar me...froch easily will win this as he has the best record...
So the best record automatically wins? :pat:
You saying Abraham is 5'9" ?
Abraham with 5'10" Raul Marquez...

Abraham is undersized at 168. I too noticed this the other day after seeing them all together. I'm starting to dislike his chances against any of the other fighters in this tourney.
He's got the power to be competitive against anyone at 168, it will just be a matter of whether he's got the boxing skills to work his way in and use it against the bigger guys.
I liked this guy on the Contender season 3, but he should really be fighting at 160 lbs, right? Yet I see quite a few of his fights are at SMW?
Maybe if he could get down to 154 he might actually be able to make some noise.
It's tough getting the real numbers. HBO used to have Taylor at 6'1, and Showtime had him at 5'11.
They had Froch at 6'0 but they appeared to be even in height.
Showtime now has Taylor back at 6'1"... for the Froch fight was the only time I've seen him listed at 5'11". I've always thought he was around 6'0".
Suffice it to say that Taylor will be 3"-4" taller and have a 4"-6" reach advantage.
Considering the TS asks which current WW has fought the best over the course of their entire career, at any weight, it's a no-brainer... Mosley.
Cotto is doing a great job himself in recent years of taking on top competition, but he hasn't caught up to Mosley yet. It's not a knock against him; his career just hasn't been as long.
stop tryin to change the subject. :lame:
ok, back to what i was saying...
wards a joke with overrated boxing skills, slow handspeed and worst of all a china chin.
There is no subject.
This is a bait thread, not one designed to start a conversation. You started it to insult an undefeated professional fighter who was an olympic medalist, calling him a bum.
He is scheduled to fight the highest ranked fighter in his weight class, and is a perfect gentleman outside of the ring, and you can't offer him any respect as a man or a fighter?
If Andre Ward is a bum then I guess that puts you on par with dog shit, doesn't it?
