Which active boxer who has fought at welterweight do you think faced the best opponents throughout their career so far? This is considering opposition not only at welterweight but also at the other weights they may have fought at.

Mosley and Cotto, no doubt.
However, Margarito's is VERY comparable to both Mosley and Cotto's resume. People forget about how good Margo's resume at 147 is...I mean he's been there forever.
Mosley, Cotto, Clottey, Williams, Cintron, Martinez......I mean that's as good as Cotto and Mosley's IMO.
Mosley and Cotto. Mosley's been doing it a little longer but over the past couple years it's easily Cotto.
This is the correct answer.
Shane gets an edge because he's been a welter longer than anyone else on the list (even with the three years he spent at 154). Therefore, it's easier for him to compile a longer list of top welters.
However, I like Cotto's resume because he has consistently faced Top 10 opposition, with only one loss to show for it. Whereas Shane had 18 months of bullshit in between Oscar and Vernon, .
Cotto:
Quality - Quintana, Judah, Mosley, Margarito (L), Clottey and next up, Pacquiao.
Dunkers - Gomez, Jennings
In Between - Urkal (a perceived tune-up, though still a top 10 contender)
Shane:
Quality - Rivera, Oscar, Forrest (L), Forrest II (L), Collazo, Cotto (L), Margarito, and possibly next up, Berto.
Dunkers - Wise, Taylor, Adrian Stone, Cruz
In Between - Estrada (not exactly a pick-'em, though he was top 10 at time of the fight), Antonio Diaz (never accomplished anything beyond 140, but was relatively hot at the time ofthe fight)
So, while Shane has faced more top contenders over time, Cotto has a much better winning percentage.
As noted earlier in the thread, Margarito is a glaring ommission from the poll. He has no worse than third best resume among those listed.
Cotto without a doubt. I would put Manny very, very close next, because he had to move up for the last 3 fights, regardless what the conditions of fighters where. That Pvssy Gayweather shouldn't even be on the list.
Considering the TS asks which current WW has fought the best over the course of their entire career, at any weight, it's a no-brainer... Mosley.
Cotto is doing a great job himself in recent years of taking on top competition, but he hasn't caught up to Mosley yet. It's not a knock against him; his career just hasn't been as long.
Its who has faced better opposition. There is no time period restriction. I dont understand how you people are putting cotto over Mosely when Mosely has faught HOF and been doing it longer than cotto. I just dont get it...Its down right retarded.
people tend to remember recent things the fighters haves done. and for mosley, DLH and Forrest were AGES ago. but i agree he does have the best overall resume, but Cotto has the best one of the last 5 yrs. (at WW):boxing:
mosley has fought the whos who of that division for a decade...nobody else is close...
Co-sign,Mosley has the Prime deal Oscar & Forrest on there too, can't forget that!!

I made the distinction, but thanks anyway.
