Former Calzaghe hater here. I would say the primary reason most people hated him, and why I hated him, was not because he's not from the US, but because he's from the UK.
Though it is not near the level of the Mexico/PR rivalry, there is definitely a rivalry between the US and the UK. I think it really comes down to one side hating the other side's fans, and that hatred extends to the fighters themselves.
Look at the Calzaghe/Kessler fight. For some reason that was viewed as a US vs UK fight, for no other reason than people from the US hated Calzaghe that much. And when Calzaghe won in convincing fashion, this board exploded with "hahaha suck it Americans!" even though Kessler is European.
I think if people disconnected from the fighter's nationality (like I finally did), they would be able to judge each fighter a lot more accurately.
From 130 all the way up to 154..............give me all the names he beats them all.............Mayweather, Margarito, Cotto.............name them all he wins every single one of them. SPEED KILLS, too fast too powerful, the MOST underrated chin in the sport.
Pacman-Mayweather would be an interesting fight.
Cotto or Margarito vs Manny would be a bloodbath with some serious long term effects on Manny's health.
Especially Margarito. The amount of punishment he can absorb and keep coming forward is all you need to observe to realize Manny wouldn't stand a chance. Oscar followed Manny around without throwing a punch, something Margarito would never do.
Definitely. And credit to the ref for letting it continue. Clearly Barrett had some fight left in him after that 4th KD, but the right call was made in the end.
Very surprised that Pac is winning this poll, although I guess I shouldn't be.
Mayweather's dominant victory over a prime Chico is way better than any Pac win at 130, which was probably the second Morales fight (against a fighter in his twilight).
somewhere earlier in the thread I read how Barrera was being defended as still at the top of his game when he fought Pac because he put together a 6 fight streak against tough opposition. Did you count Mzonke Fana in that? Or the first Juarez fight which many believe was a loss or a draw? (not sure if this was responded to, I didn't go through the whole thread)
its obviously Pac he beat several HOF fighters its not even close! not knocking mayweather but at 130 Pac clearly had the better resume and some say Corrales was the best win which is debatable but i still stay Pac's win over Barrera in the first fight was the best win by either fighter he dominated Barrera when he was still in his prime i think was the #2 P4P best figher at the time!
Old? Do you know the meaning of old Cunt? Pac fought the 3 HOF on their 20's.. Morales was 28 year old then..
The age gap is very close.. It's 1-3 year difference in age between the 3 Mexican Greats and Pacquiao.
What a loser crybabies are.
Old as far as mileage on the odometer goes, yes. Morales had been in several wars by the time he and Pac first fought (and he still beat him, suck it), Barrera was going life and death with the likes of Rocky Juarez by the time they fought at 130, and lets face it, JMM has been around the block, even getting into a few slug fests after losing to John before facing Pac the second time. Were you going to make a point or just make several poor ad hominem attacks?

Several OLD HOF fighters. You say that Corrales being the best win is debatable... do you care to debate that at state your reasons why? Finally, the first Barerra fight was at 126, not 130.
i'll post a video if you'd like, recorded what he said on quit frankly, where stephan was being an ASSHOLE and trying his best to discredit tyson, but arum was giving him all the credit in the world and tim smith was following stephans stupidity.
Nah thats ok I just read it on b-talk. fucking Stephen A Smith is the worst. I saw he had george foreman on the other night and just asking him the same questions people have been asking him for years, no research whatsoever. god I hate that guy.
Suggested retail price is $39.99. Oscar is a PPV fighter, he will never not fight on PPV. People are now saying pac is a ppv fighter, not sure if thats true, but you will definitely have to get over paying to see oscar live.
You know something, Morales has always been one of my favorite fighters but his attitude is just rediculous. Even after the 3rd Barrera fight when Barrera wanted to shake hands or whatever he threw water at Barreras dad and in the interviews said that Barrera didn't deserve the win and blah blah blah. Now he's saying that Pac Man didn't hurt him and shit like that, I could understand he's a man with a lot of pride but cmon, he's starting to pis me off. He needs to start giving people the respect they deserve ala Barrera and Pac Man.
You see, shit like this. How could he actually think (unless he's building up the fight) that he could beat Pac Man easily. Manny won't go down easy just like the first fight which he did clearly lose but was giving as good as he was getting. Morales better make good on his staments b/c he's gonna look like a douche bag if he doesn't.
My thoughts exactly.
I'm a big morales fan but he is a dick when he loses. gives no credit where its due, and I doubt he will do it if he loses to manny again, which is likely.
I'm pretty sure Pacquiao is the Mexican assassin and that Larios is Mexican so
Pacquiao by KO, duh
Pacman's recent record against mexicans: 2-1-1. I wouldn't call that an assassin.
I read an interview Floyd Sr. did with boxing///talk a few weeks back and it said something to the effect of "I created my son's style, and I can pick it apart." It might just be to screw jr our of a big payday.
Yeah he wasn't as bad as lets say Aaron Pryor or Mel Taylor.
I dunno, maybe because all the video I've seen of him was from the early 90s, and haven't heard from him since, but that was tough to watch for me.
Who did you think won the fight?
I had it a draw:

bah, I voted barrera but I had the fight a draw, the exact same card as you.
From what I saw in that clip, he keeps his hands down a lot, especially for a guy who uses a defensive style that you're talking about. I haven't seen much of him, but I am looking for his fights to watch before June 10 so I can get a better idea, but that clip seemed to sum it up nicely. I can see where you're coming from with him having his own style, but he's liable to get caught with a Tszyu-Judah shot if he fights Cotto like that. I think 3 or 4 minutes in you can see he gets caught with a good one coming in. We will see.
I scored it like so:
Round 1: 10-8 Hatton
Round 2: 10-9 Collazo
Round 3: 10-9 Hatton
Round 4: 10-9 Collazo
Round 5: 10-9 Collazo
Round 6: 10-9 Collazo
Round 7: 10-9 Hatton
Round 8: 10-9 Hatton
Round 9: 10-9 Hatton
Round 10: 10-9 Collazo
Round 11: 10-9 Hatton
Round 12: 10-9 Collazo
Total: 114-113 Hatton
Hatton won the fight, but he was in no means impressive.
I scored it exactly the same, and this is coming from the biggest Hatton hater on the site, so take that for what its worth.
Yeah, it has been so good for Taylor after beating bernard hopkins twice. Both of the decisions are disputed (not "robberies," but disputed), and the guy has been getting shit since then. It might be good for boxing if he really outpoints wink and looks like the superior fighter, but to give him a decision in a close fight would not be good for boxing necessarily.
I would watch the "legendary nights" episode again with Bowe-Golotta... there is a significant difference in how he sounded before the holyfield trilogy and several years later. The man should not be boxing, inconclusive or not.
Floyds workouts are insane, especially the padwork I think. It always amazes me how both in training and in fights when another fighter even begins to raise his arm to throw a punch he is already throwing his head back to dodge and counter.
I'm sicka Judah, he's the Nomar Garciapara of boxing! LOL! I'm just glad I'm not gonna pay $$$ to watch this thing.
How's things in Philly, man? The Twin Cities are not my kinda town, went back to the ATL last week and I just wanna get back HOME!
Philly is always good, man. Best city in the world, most notably the NE region. You from Philly? (in the interest of this thread, we should probably take this to PMs).
Also if Zab loses he isnt done nor is he finished or faded and shot.
All the Floyd haters will be saying this after his blowout to discredit him though.
