Disclaimer: The title is not a quote of Mayweather. It is too separate documented things he said he was willing to do. It's paraphrased and the quotes should be removed. At the end of the day, those are the things he said he'd be willing to do. But that's besides the point as that is not the thread's main point. It's simply about the reality that CW's have existed for a long time and have a place in boxing.
Note: This thread was inspired by a fan in Fat Dan's Chat. Also, all Pacquiao and Mayweather huggers please exit this thread now. I know you won't listen, but it was worth a shot. Here we go:
The fact that Mayweather is willing to fight Cotto at 154 but would make Martinez drop to 150 speaks volumes.
Obviously the issue of weight has nothing to do with caring whether or not his opponent is comfortable, but more about he doesn't feel he needs to adjust his weight to win. And if he can overcome a small sticking point and insult Pac at the same time? All the better. If Mayweather/JMM didn't tell you that Mayweather doesn't care about CW's, then I guess you aren't going to get it.
With that said though, it's not just Mayweather. Pac has used catchweights. Cotto attempted to make Margario fight below 154 for their rematch(so for everyone, Cotto included, b*tching about CWs? What a joke.) And throughout boxing history, many, many fighters have used catchweights.
It's all a matter of one fighter having more clout than his opponent, a genuine need for a catchweight between two fighters from different weight classes, or a CW being treated as a bargaining chip in a negotiation. At the end of the day, they exist, they aren't great. BUT they are a part of boxing and there are many guilty parties.
This all sounds like when Manny fought Oscar at 147 but asked for 145 for Cotto!
hes gonna stay at 154 and try to get Pac to move up because he knows Pac dont wanna move up. Between a ridiculous money split and a weight issue he knows the fight will never happen. So yeah he will stay for another reason not to fight.
Or he will retire because he running out of old washed up past prime fighters to fight.
Sounds like you are talking about Manny...don't worry, because Manny's over the old man addiction and on to blown up lightweights or jr welterweights!
Last time I checked, Sergio was loudly calling out Floyd at 150, just to turn around and say he doesn't wanna fight Floyd yet.....at any rate,it is not a fight that should really happen if he would struggle to shrink down to 150-154.

The revenue is being guaranteed by both fighters promoters. The revenue should be split down the middle. Anyone requesting more than 50% doesnt want to fight. Before you claim that Pac never wanted the fight, dont forget that Floyd himself stated in his email that Pac said "50/50 and I'll fight you anytime"
What happened to Manny accepting less than Floyd like he said he would?
most fighters styles are tailor made for manny !!!!!! despite what most haters say bradley , amir khunt , ortiz and mayweather styles are tailor maid for manny !!!!!! the only style that gives manny slight trouble is marquez style and even agaisnt that style manny is 3 and 0 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LMFAO!!!!! Sure buddy! lol
this is a load of bs jinki doen't know shlt June 5 is a Tuesday but i d think the fight will happen
You are probably right, but it is interesting to know that this article states that Floyd didn't accept 50/50, but Pac still insinuates that he will be fighting Floyd...
Supposedly,Pac and Floyd have been negotiating privately...maybe they can work something out.I just know if it doesn't happen before Floyd goes to "the big house",then I don't wanna see it.As it stands, the fight has lost a bit of luster. They should have struck when the iron was hot a few years ago.
Just thought I would share it to offer some hope....
How is Pacquiao scared of Floyd Huey? He said he would fight him anytime as long as it's 50-50 it's Arum who is holding up this fight.
I thought Pac said he would fight for less than 50/50 just a few weeks ago before Floyd's incarceration got delayed...now it's 50/50? I'm just seeing lies, delays and excuses from Pac and Arum.
The only thing Bob is building is a protective wall around Pac so he doesn't get humiliated anymore...
When the hell has a stadium ever been an issue until Floyd's jail date was postponed????!!!!
Bob keeps coming up with excuses to make it look like there is a legitimate excuse for not fighting Floyd....more likely than not,Bob already has an opponent matched up with Pac before any negotiations have been made for Floyd....pathetic characters....Manny Duckiou and Bob the builder!
I am still wondering why Manny publicly said he would take less money (when he thought Floyd was going to jail in January) but then when Floyd's sentence is postponed Manny wants 50/50....
Bob Arum is hired by Manny-at the end of the day,Manny makes the fight upon his agreement.I do believe that Arum is a strong influence however and it is possible that Arum manipulates Manny's decisions, but it is ultimately up to Pacquiao to take whatever fight he wants.
his work rate had nothing to do with him being shot. It was by design. Pac's turned into a better boxer and he's been beating the other guys like that but JMM is still too skilled. With that being said, you could still argue that Pac won that fight so it was still impressive from that standpoint. Dont assume that because JMM did well that Pac sucks. JMM did well in the other 2 fights and Pac killed everyone since. Its just JMM is a problem for him
Styles make fights, but JMM was even older than their previous encounters and he was moving up 2 divisions! That cannot be ignored.Manny was touted to KO him easily.
The fact that it's a woman who said that... come on guys, use common sense!!!!!!!!!
Yes,but that woman is Pac's lady...She would probably be the first to know before anyone....let me be optimistic here-lol
:haha: that's freaking great lol....
I lol'd so much I almost puked!
I still won't forget that after Pac just beat Hatton,Arum claimed he was greater than Ali....worst than that,Arum tricked the entire Philippines into believing the same....smh
Nope, but some bias haters of Manny's think so. I don't because I know that Bradley is a very legit fighter, and it wouldn't make a big difference to Manny's legacy. He'd still be an ATG to me, but to some of his haters, he would take some sort of hit.
You are the most bias Floyd hater on here, I was just asking an honest question.
You have gotten more delusional as time passes. When I started here back in July, you were a bias poster, but still somewhat sane. Now, all bets are off with you, it's truly ludicrous the s**t you spit on this board.
IMO if he loses to Bradley, this IS a big deal.First he gets a gift from a blown up lightweight in JMM, then a jr WW....if Floyd was to lose to these guys, these forums would be crashing for weeks!
Serious question, he was booed hard after the JMM fight, now that he blatantly ducked Mayweather and his cover has been blown over, will he be booed at his next fight? Your thoughts...
He may be losing a lot of popularity and fans after that poor decision against a blown up LW in Marquez...now with his reluctance to fight Floyd, the public and fans are starting to turn on him."Pacmania" is fizzing out.
If I'm not mistaken, it has been Team Pac that has been initiating contact with Team May and nothing the other way around.
You should ask yourself who initiated the very first negotiations (and who walked away from it) and the most recent.....it wasn't Arum or Pac! lol It looks like Arum is throwing another spanner in the works to find an excuse from having his little man face Floyd....again.
Honestly, if you don't want to watch skill or technique-piss off to another sport. Just because Marquez was forcing the action because he knew he was down on the cards doesn't make him a winner-and this is coming from someone who likes Marquez.
Boxing is not always rugged brawling-get used to it. Ali wasn't a pressure fighter, nor was he a brawler-he used his best weapon-his JAB and his footwork to control the fight. He is regarded as a legend of the sport for his skills. Boxing is about imposing the better technique against whatever style your opposition brings-whether it is applying EFFECTIVE aggression, clean punches, better defense and ring generalship.
I cannot understand those who think Bradley was boring...he worked on the outside and mixed it up when he could. Now don't get me wrong,my favourite fight was Corrales/ Castillo 1, but to expect that from fighters who don't have those attributes is plain gullible. Bradley has given us brave efforts while putting his 0 at risk and his career/money on the line-quit moaning.
For me American,Japanese and pommy"s are a bit weak in the chin department....lol.....
Mexican, ricans, filo"s,Russians,Africans, and even Aussie"s have pretty solid chins .... I no I'm guna cop sum sh1t for this haha owell...
lol@ aussies having good chins when Katsidis, Mundine, Green, Darchinyan, etc have been ktfo.
May I remind you of what Floyd's team and his fans said when a fighter caves in to Floyd's demands: "Canelo's team is to blame for accepting the 152 CW. It's not Floyd's fault for talking advantage of the situation"
or when Marquez came up from 130 the year before to fighting Floyd at WW while Floyd came it at his usual WW weight "Marquez is #2 P4P fighter so its legit"
What you don't mention is that each time Floyd came up with a new roadblock that Manny had to accept.
When randomized drug testing was a road block for a few years, you would have blamed Floyd instead of Manny. IMO, drug testing should never have been declined.
When Pac gets a career high offer of $40 million dollars from Floyd (who you guys believed was scared of Manny, yet he personally called Pac), you say this was a lowball offer and Manny shouldn't have accepted it....tell me at any point in Manny's career where he has earned close to that figure or ever will!
At this point, if Floyd was to offer 30 million to Pac he should take it. Floyd will make big money regardless of who he fights. The only question is if he will break his record for earnings...meanwhile, Manny is getting raped by Arum and hasn't broke any records financially or on ppvs for some time. Even his loyal fans from his own country are fading in interest.
The demand isn't there? You sure?
ESPN Poll, 58% Want Floyd Mayweather to fight Pac
In a recent poll conducted by ESPN's Sports Nation, Boxing fans were asked to vote on who they feel should be Floyd 'Money' Mayweather Jr's next foe? With nearly 40,000 votes tabulated thus far (the polling is still ongoing) a whopping 58% (really should come as no surprise) want Mayweather Jr. to face off against none other than the 'Pacman', Manny Pacquiao.
The next highest name on the list is Danny Garcia, and he pulled in 18% of the votes followed by Adrien Broner with 12%.
Amir Khan edged out of the last spot with 7% of the votes just coming in ahead of Miguel Cotto with 5%.
58% of the votes from a calculated 39,782 cast votes is a lot and speaks volumes that even to this day a majority of fans truly believe there is unfinished business between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao.
And let's face it... if Mayweather vs. Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez has become the highest grossing PPV to this date (as the SHOWTIME press release sent out yesterday indicated it had)... I imagine Pacquiao vs. Mayweather can and would surpass #THEONE in terms of PPV sales.
So fans, if you still want Mayweather vs. Pacquiao, keep your voices heard... and at 58%, there is a lot of you.
Just remember not to use the "Manny is a shot fighter" excuse if this fight gets made and Mayweather schools him.
You guys keep thinking "Floyd has a weakness with southpaws", this, that and the other...the truth is-nearly every southpaw he has fought has been put down or severely outclassed.
Manny won't be able to close the distance, won't be able to fight on the inside and won't be able to hit Mayweather. ...not without chopping his legs off. Pac is the smaller guy who's speed and work rate have declined....
Pac is great, but Floyd is on another level imo.
Floyd is greater hands down. Though JMM has a ko win and disputed robberys from Pac- Floyd beat JMM EASILY. Your use of triangle theorys are easily used against you with that route.
JMM or Pac would never fight Canelo-even at 152 (or Oscar, Cotto at 154) . I'm not even sure JMM would fight Guerrero let alone Cotto...Marquez IS a great, but his achievements are dwarfed by Floyd.
Compare what these two fighters have done-Floyd has done nothing but win against solid opposition and high ranked opponents for quite some time...sure he has had a few gimme fights as every fighter does, but you can see that most of his opponents have been ranked relatively high within their division.
olympic style drug testing is a year round process. no cut off date and no bull crap as the fraud was trying to dictate.
floyd was caught three times already, then how in the hell would you believe him?
it's only a ploy by floyd to cover up that he's scared of fighting pac.
If it was only "a ploy" to ask for the testing...then why did'nt Manny call his "bluff" and accept random testing without cut offs?????? hmmmmmmm
In fact why has it taken Manny this long to take randomized testing? weird.
bigzigga, dammed & jloro
fine points but yall know dam well ward is boring as watching paint dry. before his fights a "drowsiness may occur" promo should pop up!
stop the nonsense. lol
I disagree. Ward is not boring to me...if anything, his opponents are boring when they fight him since they have no answer. Guys like Froch, Kessler, etc were the favourites and they were perceived to be better than Ward before the S6 (how that quickly changed!)....they didn't have the answers to beat him-it is on them.
Klitschko to me is boring-a guy who holds massive advantages over his opponents yet deliberately holds just because he lacks inside fighting and uses that because he is scared to take a punch.
Ward uses inside fighting and may hold a bit-but he is still fighting and throwing punches. He also fights on the outside just as good, so which do you wanna complain about-his inside game where he may clinch and hit, or when he is on the outside picking his opponents apart.....maybe you just like mid-range fighting-which is great as well, but it is not as versatile as what Ward does....he is much much more complex.
MMA? That's where they grapple and headbutt, right?
Yeah, Ward's a true artist... only people with your esteemed intellect will be able to grasp this. Well done you.
SMH...I'm talking about people who like to see brainless brutes in the ring as opposed to fighters who display a lot of intelligence and skill. Yes, Ward will clinch and fight on the inside...but how is Holyfield gonna get praised for doing these same things while Ward doesn't??? Ward fights excellent on the inside and outside...if you think he is boring, I cannot change that, but our sport is being corroded due to unfair expectations.
Define what is exciting to you...IMO, when a fighter exerts dominance in many styles and you have no answer for it-that is exciting to me. Ward is a class above the rest in his division and he shows that. To think he only grapples and headbutts is stupid.
You forget that his opponents often hold him as well, and that in reality there have only been a few fights where head clashes were a small factor. If he rushes in,it is up to his opponent to use range or defense-or put him in check with an uppercut, but because they have no answer you guys complain about Ward?
If grappling and fouls was all Ward did-he would be despised by me-but if you don't see his skills-you are a blind man.
He fights and beats the best
He represented the U.S. and did the country proud
He's never been one to disparage his opponents or act overly c ocky
I don't get it
I see a lot of people who diss him but never understood why
Some say his style is boring
I don't agree but even if you think that, is that really a reason to diss the guy?
Ward is a highly skilled and talented fighter who I always tune in to see. His style isn't boring at all to me...these people who expect Gatti/ Ward or Corrales/Castillo type fights will be bored, but true fans of technique and skill will appreciate Ward.
Too many people want to change our sport into a neanderthal type of slugfest instead of appreciating the current crop of greats we have and the skills they display. These type of fans would be better suited to tune in to MMA...
Ward has been in perhaps a few dull fights, but overall he has been involved in more exciting fights. His dominance over Froch and Dawson were great to watch.
A lot of hate also comes from the head clashes in the Kessler fight while Ward was not even considered to win the fight, let alone the Super six. Hell, the Americans were supposed to be dominated and not have a chance-mainly because the SMW division was a European dominated division for a while and because Ward and Dirrell were VERY inexperienced in the pro ranked compared to Kessler, Froch and Abraham.
It was supposed to be a big step up for Ward, but it turned out to be a big step up for his opponents!
1) I don't think the Floyd fight was a serious proposal lol Froch 2 is something a lot of fans wanna see. I don't think it's necessary personally but it's a legit fight considering the quality wins Froch has had since they fought. Jr. looked like a more legit fight before Vera imo. Now it looks like a joke. But Ward isn't exactly the hardest puncher and Jr. walks through a lot of shots to land his own. Not the worst fight in the world but a definite money grab lol I'll give you that
2) None of them are in his division. I don't see why he HAS to fight them just yet. I don't think Ward could make 160 so GGG should move up. I say Ward fights the Stevenson-KOvalev winner
3)To each his own
4) Dawson offered to come down.....don't see how it's Ward's fault. Dawson never should have put himself at a disadvantage like that.
5) Out of 26 fights, only about 5 have been in Oakland....his next one is in Ontario.
6) I think that's a very legit fight coming off the layoff he's had. Undefeated guy who's beaten solid competition.
7) RJJ is terrible at commentary lol he's very biased. Paulie is great though and better than Ward. Ward is between Roy and Paulie imo.
8) That's just the injuries lately. He's normally more active.
9) Not nearly as much as many others.
10) So Froch, Abraham, Kessler, and Miranda don't have high KO%?
I agree with you-a lot of the guys who don't like Ward have probably found themselves upset when he tore apart the super 6. Ward has fought very hard punchers-now he is fighting Rodriguez, who just took out Grachev in 1 round!
They wanna b1tch about the Dawson fight, but forget the fact that Froch fought Yusaf Mack at SMW when he has been fighting at LHW for years now.
These guys are just looking for someone to hate and the fact that Ward is an American (in an age where the world unjustly hates American people but also hypocritically believe prejudice should not be tolerated!) just puts him under a microscope that much more.
Just like Mayweather, they want to see Ward at a disadvantage and pray that he loses. They want him to move to different weight classes against guys who they define as big punchers-the truth is,they just want Ward ko'd because they hate him...they don't want a fair fight in the same weight class-they will be asking for Ward to fight as CW next. Hell, he isn't a huge SMW exactly.
I have seen two boring fights of Ward, Green and Miranda.
He stayed in front of Froch, Kessler and Abraham. He beat Bika at his own game. He did exactly what he was supposed to do against a drained Chad Dawson, let his hands go and stop him.
The boring label seems like bitter fans that don't like how successful he is.
I agree. I think only the Green fight was dull to me-because he ONLY fought on the inside...Green though, with or without that Ward fight-was a dud.
