Different styles of counter punching. JMM can multitask better than floyd. Floyd is best at waiting to counter, but if you study his career, watch his early bouts when he use to sit down and go to war with opponents (people think he was always a pot shotter) you'd realize he got hit a LOT during exchanges.
JMM is a better counter puncher when engaging than floyd is. Floyds biggest gift in this discussion is his defense, THAT is hitting and not being hit. COUNTERING is making your opponent pay for missing, or putting punches out there.

Marquez gives Pacquiao fits because every time Pacquiao flurries Marquez is willing to go in to the trenches with him to get his counter punches in, whereas Mayweather will more than likely wait for Pacquiao to finish punching before he throws back. With that in mind could Pacquiao conceivably outwork Mayweather? Doubtful but there's still a bit of intrigue there.

Jim Watt and company talked as if Froch was getting a Mayweather-Gatti type beating. Absolutely atrocious commentary. I had it 76-75 Groves at the time of the stoppage, with a swing round of two that could have gone Groves' way. I'll have to re-watch. Anyway, from round 8 on Froch was turning it up and Groves' night was quickly going downhill. The stoppage was god awful. The ref robbed Froch of a clean victory and robbed Groves of a chance to make a comeback, though in my opinion it was only a matter of time before Groves crumpled.
