To be honest ferocity I haden't seen the fight and when I saw it posted I d/l it and watched it just for enjoyment because I like Pernell, but without scoring it I felt that P won a good fight. Now I'm interested in getting that first fight to check it out because I enjoyed the 2nd one.
I downloaded the 2nd fight and I felt P won but it was a good fight and I remember the commentators dissagreeing with some of the scores I believe but agreeing Pernell won. I haven't seeen the first fight though so can't comment on that one. Ferocity was it closer then the 2nd fight?
I love P and I knew Buddy was good but not that good, when Pernell went down from the flash knockdown he started smiling to the crowd. He was extremely confident and then went on to take control of the fight. I wonder how good he would've been if he didn't have his issues with drugs.
I'm not sure I've heard different thing's but I have family in the tidewater area, and in VA it's known or assumed that he atleast dabbled before then. In that time it's not to suprising, even watching that second Buddy fight he seemed to be getting hit alot more and off balance more compared to the 1st fight or earlier fight's. Shows how good he was and though he lost to tito he definitely showed heart and did well to not be himself IMO. Ferocity you got the 1st rivera fight?
Lampley was ridiculous with his exaggerations when punches were blocked by Winky, while ignoring flurry's of Wright's. He would also say "Big round for Taylor" when Taylor let his hands go even if the shot's were blocked. I was impressed with Taylor and his class and honesty in giving credit to Wright who fought the bigger stronger Taylor well.
I think that PBF will be able to fight his fight and if this is at 147 then Hatton really has a even lesser chance. If PBF wasn't versatile in the different ways he can fight as well as being the smartest active fighter then Hatton would have a better chance. Meaning he's to smart to fight Hatton's fight and even if Hatton had early success like judah , PBF would make the proper adjustments IMO.
I'm suprised nobodys said Marciano (I respect his accomplishments) there are people who say he's the GREATEST HW that ever lived with a straight face. He was very good but I think that's overrating him, I could see top ten but anything higher is HYPE IMO. I respect him for the way he treated a broke and past his prime Louis showed his class, and maybe thing's like this add on to his legend. IMO he was a great but not the best HW!
It's a shame from what I hear Zab isn't in the best financial situation these days and the little he does have somebody's tryna get, I kind of feel bad for him because it seems like thing's keep going downhill. Hopefully he can get back on track and I hope he is on point about coming out the club at 5 knowing the haters are lurknig. I wonder did the girl break also and how that turned out!
I wanna see more of Collazo I was impressed in the Hattom fight and I would love to see him rematch Hatton because of how close the 1 fight was. Especially if Hatton isn't going to face another tough opponent, it would allow Collazo to get a rematch in a fight that ppl's opinions varied on who won. I like Hatton's toughness and if he did this even his detractors would have to give him his due, kind of like when PBF rematched castillo when people thought it was close.
I think with boxing having a down period the HW division doesn't seem to have alot of the great athlete's it used to have, mostly from athletic youth choosing sports that are more in the "public eye". I do think the American HW picture will improve hopefully not to long from now.
There are several fighter's past and present that have been in serious trouble outside the ring, and probably several others that were involved in criminal activities and just were not caught. I don't know the details with this and won't judge him, I don't agree with everything he does but woulden't wish jail on anybody. He's talented and it's a gift from GOD and hope he can capitalize on these gift's.
After the lacy fight I went and watched several of his other fight's and I was impressed, but if he retires with those being his final fight's I will always wonder exactly HOW good he was. I understand he was milking the hometown thing but I feel like he's not a gimmick and could've bettered his legacy and made good money also in the process. I mean here in the US ppl get on RJJ for some of his fight's or PBF etc or anybody that talented. I believe even with a few losses he would've had more big named wins on his resumee and got more respect universally in the long run. He is very good so I'm not knocking him just pointing out unbiasedly the same thing's ppl make about other fighter's of his talent!
That was hilarious, thanks for the interpretation I love when Merchant and Jim grey get dogged because they often are out of line during interviews and at the wrong times. Good to see Chavez even at that age took pride in how ppl viewed him.
Being a Toney fan I do know about this story, but in an interview years later he said that it was not true and was just a joke. Though Toney was a standout football player prior to him turning pro in his high school day's.
I'm a fan of PBF and Winky but I'm not gonna lie if I was recognized as the P4P king and the smaller man taking the risk against a very good naturally bigger guy I would want a little more of the split(60/40). I also can understand that Winky feels he's arrived and doesn't have to take a backseat to anybody. These are my favorite active fighter's along with Toney, so if PBF/Winky could be made it's a dangerous fight for the much smaller PBF. I like it though because if PBF were to win even his detractors would have to give him his due for that win, and if Winky wins then it would change how he is remembered in the eyes of many boxing experts.
I think Calzaghe is very talented and has had a good career but I hear PPL on here bash Tarver and RJJ and even PBF about who they've fought and basically scrutinizing their moves. But to be 35 and to say Hall of famer's ducked and are scared of you but their bigger names in the sport and have better resumee's by far so like the younger and less experienced Lacy showed balls and fought him on his soil and gave credit in defeat. Why can't Calzaghe have done this by now? Even RJJ he fought several of the better fighter's of their era (Tarver,Hopkins,Tony,Johnson) so how come Calzaghe gets a pass, I'm not tryna bash him I think he's a good fighter but he's too talented to not have better challenges by now and from here on out. I know PPL will say nobody wanted to fight him but we all know if him and his team wanted to they could've made these fight's. They might have had to leave Europe for ppl who had bigger names but would be worth it to get his recognition and paydays. I'm just being honest if it was any other fighter that was talented and highly regarded they would have to have made bigger fight's by now otherwise they'd be talked about crazily. I hope he fights Johnson and not 1 of those Manfredo type fights I was hearing.
Obviously hardcore fans want a PBF/Hatton or Margorito, but I doubt that he's gonna be fighting PBF next. I know alot of ppl hate Judah but I would love to see him fight Judah, it would be a good fight and if Zab is in shape to withstand Hatton's pressure it could possibly go either way. I'm sure they don't want anymore lefty's for the time being but I would love to see this fight especially more then Gatti/Hatton or Hatton/Baldomir.
Wasn't this like his 2 or 3 accident or something? It's sad because regardless of the jails over there maybe being easier, his freedom was still taken from him and going from driving expensive cars and being a star to being told what to do is a rude awakeaning.Hopefully he benefits from this as far as making smarter decisions.
I think it's fine to like your respective fighter from your country and agree it helps sell the fight. It only becomes a problem when ppl make generalizations about a fighter because of there race on a message board and it starts racial tension and nonsense. I also don't like when ppl ignore someone's talent because of where they come from and try to marginalize their achievments. A prime example is Lennox Lewis, he often get's disrespected because of his accent and personality and other things that have nothing to do with his talent. I personally was a Tyson guy but did respect his size and skill and his accomplishments, when I hear ppl say he sucks it's almost funny.
PBF would win, I think that people forget how smart PBF is and when collazo stuck to boxing he landed clearly and was winning rounds. Hatton had his moments when he pressured Collazo but I think PBF would stick to the boxing gameplan the whole time, and he's faster then collazo in hand and foot speed.Basicly Hatton would show heart but not be able to get to mayweather enough to win a fight with PBF in my opinion!
I'm no Hatton fan ,but he's like roughly ten years younger then Calzaghe and it appears that he's gonna face names like (mayweather,or castillo ,corrales, mosley etc)If he does this then I will give him more credit for coming to the US to get the top opponents. Some of the possible next opponents (manfredo, green) for Calzaghe I'm hearing summs up how I feel about him. He's talented and a good fighter but at is age he should heve bigger names then lacey as his best win,and to say some of the best names of are era are "scared" of him or avoiding him.He knows where the top dollars are and we used to criticize RJJ who beat Toney, hopkins,Tarver, johnson etc. Basicly atleast Hatton's coming here to either gain respect or learn he's got some more work to do and I respect that. Calzaghe is good won't take that from him but I like something about Hatton's heart and humility more then Calzaghe.
I know he would beat Gatti I don't think he could beat PBF, and the other guys I don't know yet haven't seen him in there with many fighters of that caliber yet. But all of these potential fights would be exciting!
BrownBomber the only point I was making is that people on here like Margorito, just responding because you said finally somebody knows Margorito. The part about PBF's last opponents were in response to Iron Mike's post, and who was PBF suppose to face if Zab wasn't challenge enough for you? If he would've fought Baldomir people would say he's just tryna get belts, and he's also tried to get a fight with Hatton.
It's legit according to ESPN it's on the bottom of the screen, I bet people got nervous about him not making weight and messing up that payday. Since everyone says that Mayorga doesn't train hard, this prob assured that he made the weight!
There is no mix up VanesBoxing it was on ESPN, just turn to ESPN and then read the bottom of the screen. The most recent info is there before they put it on websites and stuff, they'll probably talk about it on SPORTSCENTER!
I agree with deliveryman, IF he beats some of these names and continues this consistently I'll have no problem saying he's this or that. And Brownbomber Hatton and Margorito's resumee combined can't see PBF's so all that pretty girl stuff sounds foolish. Most of this thread is about Future opponents for Hatton and the key word is future because these people PBF already beat. And you said people don't know who Margorito is many people on here like him, they just understand that 20 million is better then 8 million. And that beating Oscar will do more for his career then Margorito.
Americans don't hate Hatton and he prob could beat cotto, we just haven't seen in there with people like cotto, castillo,or corrales. And it's not a bias trust me they stay on people who are atop the P4P rankings(Americans). For example people used to stay on Roy when he was on top and Mayweather before the Judah fight and still on him like a month after that about who he's fighting next or who they're ducking. Take it as a compliment to Hatton people just want to see him in there with top level fighters. After beating Tszyu people wanna see him in there with some of these guys so they can see how good he is.
