Really...hmmm I never knew that. So they thought he would walk over Collazo... must not have seen Collazo fight then. If you watch him it is pretty obvious that his style is hard to figure out.
I think most people did. Hatton had some problems with southpaw Magee but he still won the fight decisively so he had no real reason to fear Collazo. I watched a couple of Collazo fights after the fight was signed and thought it would be an entertaining fight but a fairly straightforward win for Hatton. But then again I wasn't expecting such a poor version of Hatton, I've never seen him that tired in a fight. I think you have to give credit to Collazo though, he fought well.
As a Hatton fan I'd like to say that it was all balls but I've got a sneaking suspicion that the Hatton camp went into the fight a litle blind. I don't think he expected it to be that tough.

You know its funny, I have been using the Collazo fight as a reason why Hatton will lose, but it actually made me respect him a lot more. No the performance was less than impressive, but look at how Floyd moved up. He fought a shot Mitchell that was moving up from 140 also. Hatton immediately took on a champ and on top of that a guy that has a tough style to master. I respect that regardless of the outcome.

I'm not sure but I hope so. I think he needs to get a little more active given the way he blows up in between fights and he should cut back on the weights.
There were mitigating circumstances in his last 2 fights. He was being sued by Warren at the time of he Maussa fight and said himself that his strategy was to KO him in 4 which lead to him loading up too much. Nice finish though.
Everything about the Collazo fight was wrong for him in retrospect. He should have eased into the weight first.

I have seen him earlier... I think you are referring to a performance like against Ben Tackie. But we can stop arguing this point. My new question is what indication is there that Hatton will turn back the clocks and fight like he did earlier?

Do you guys understand the physics of size, here?
Oh I do understand, but don't you think Floyd is more like SRL here? He is the fast puncher with effective pressure who gets in and out. Hatton is more like Hagler to me than Leonard.
Like I said, see some pre-Tszyu fights. He adopted that tactic for the Tszyu fight and it seems to have stuck. He never fought like that before.
Against Collazo he didn't carry the extra weight very well. He was flat footed and slow compared to how I'm used to seeing him.

And if you are referring to one of the stiffs he faced early in his career, well then he should have been faster than them because they weren't quality opponents.
He was beating the same guys as the 2 top guys in the division, only more impressively.
He wasn't quick in these fights relatively, he was quick full stop. Are you going to apply that logic to every fighter then?
Explain to me how he was quick against a skilled technical fighter like against Koz. Hatton was definitely winning but it wasn't with speed. I have watched Hatton a lot and I see him put punches together quickly at times, but that isn't his strength. He relies on being the bigger/stronger man, and that is part of the reason he struggled against Collazo.

You're clearly speaking from a position of ignorance, you need to watch some more of his fights. His overall quickness is a massive part of what's made him so effective in most of his fights.

Speed isn't exactly Hatton's thing either.

don't you think every other pressure fighter that fought floyd thought the same way? didn't seem to pay off for them.
no every other pressure fighter fights exactly like hatton but yes i know were your coming from
Are you fucking stupid?!?!?!?
You don't spend practically every minute of every round of 38 fights with your opponent trapped against the ropes if you can't cut-off the ring.
Come back to me on the handspeed when you can show me Castillo throwing a triple left hook / straight right combo in less than a second.
Castillo's one of my favourite active fighters but speed isn't one of his strengths. He's just very sound in everything he does.

First of all, being fast on your feet and cutting off the ring are two COMPLETELY different skills.
There's TONS of fighters who might have fast feet but can't cut off the ring worth shit. Look at Corrales, all he does is follow people around.
There's nothing factual about Castillo having faster hands? Huh?? Are you blind??!?!?

You sound like you've only seen 3 Hatton fights, and there's nothing factual about Castillo having quicker hands or cutting off the ring better.
Hatton on top form is lightning quick across the ring and some of his combinations are astonishing. He didn't get the following he has by bulling in head first and clinching. He's usually on his toes, bouncing in and out of range, but he was flat footed and lethargic in his last 2 fights.
I acutally have seen Hatton fight at least 8 times (not all live of course but I live in the US) and my conception of him is a guy that bullies his opponents. I know he has good boxing skills and he used them somewhat against Maussa, but his arms are short and he can't outbox Floyd. So he is forced to fight like he did against Koz which was a bullying style in which he really didn't throw many combinations. No he doesn't come in face first, but his hands aren't always in the right place and his very suceptible to being countered. This is the kind of fight Floyd welcomes.

Hatton bulldozed his way into a FLAT footed Kostya and Maussa... then he tries the same thing against a fleet footed combination puncher and he gets ruined.

This is what I tried to explain eariler. Sure everybody can think Hatton is better than Castillo if they want (I don't agree). But factually, Castillo has faster hands, better movement (cutting off the ring), definitely works behind the jab, and has better head movement. Hatton simply bullies his way inside and against an accurate, quick puncher like Floyd Hatton won't be stopping any punches (except with his head). This is just a bad style match for Hatton as I think he could beat most of his other options.
