Another Merchant masterpiece. I've said this before, I'll say it again. HBO Boxing will not be the same when Larry Merchant leaves us (hopefully not anytime soon). Larry Merchant is pure comedic gold.
I don't see what the deal is here. 161 is fine a month before the fight. All this other stuff about him being arrogant is beyond me. I've never encountered an interview or seen a vid of Miguel Cotto being arrogant. He's just a serious, quiet, highly professional dude who values his privacy. If you want arrogance watch or read up on anything associated with Mayweather Jr. Funny how people see shit that's just not there.
Tell me you didn't think Leonard beat Hagler.... I love Sugar Ray and my heart was broken when Terry Norris beat him to a pulp but I thought Hagler beat him.
:soapbox:
I think Leonard beat Hagler. I'm with Merchant when he says, "Leonard stole the fight fair and square."
As for fighters with the best results moving up that would have to be Sugar Ray Robinson, Roberto Duran, Henry Armstrong, James Toney, Tommy Hearns, Roy Jones Jr, Manny Pacquiao, and Floyd Mayweather Jr.
his just chilling. he can do drugs and stuff with 50 cent now. i would like to see him rolling with Kat Wiliams and Snoop smoking some green..lol alot of peeps here became fans cause of this dude right here. i have alot of respect for him.
Who is the chick in your avi? :hitit:
He does look like he gained a little weight but not alot by any means. Looks like he weighs 166 or 168 around there considering he's 5'8.

I know I'm cheating but fu ck it. These are my my top 10 favorite fighters. Wilfredo Gomez, Roy Jones Jr, Manny Pacquiao, Joe Frazier, Thomas Hearns and George Foreman.
I like Ricardo Mayorga, he makes the sport more entertaining. But he didn't got to his Full Potential. If he would have, i think he could have did a lot more for the sport. He had a great Chin, but alwayz stuck it out to hit like a dummy. He wasn't that smart in the ring, and he smoked cigs all the time.
But the man was a beast in my mind. I think he took a dive in the DLH fight tho. But thats just me.
You think he took a dive against DLH... :banghead:
ponce de leon was a test.
he aced that one already.
raf are midterms. izzy is the finals.
Agreed. I'm optimistic '09 will be Juan Ma's breakout year. Don't think he'll fight 4 times though considering the caliber of the opponents he'll be facing. Think he'll fight 3 times call it a run at 122 and move up to 126 early next year.
somewhere out there Ray Robinson is dead and cant form an opinion on the fight because he has seized to exist a long long time ago.
Silence. That's squealpiggy's job to say that. Not yours. :boxing:
So your thread was a fail and 120 people viewed it, and found it not funny... but yet you still bump this sad excuse of humor.....
Someone needed a little more attention growing up, so you wouldnt have to be on a boxing forum looking so desperate and starving for attention.....
Stawwwpp ittt. Your hurting my feelings....
Yeah but you'd think a guy who has been a professional since he was 16 who fought in the gym all these years would know how to clinch. Cotto has the same issue.
I don't know if you've seen the video interview here on BS with Cotto but he actually says he doesn't like to clinch and doesn't view it as a legitimate strategy. He went on to say he likes to fight clean. My mouth dropped. Miguel Cotto a professional prizefighter, champ in 2 weight classes said this. Sheer ignorance for him of all people to say that. I've been worried ever since for him. Someone needs to bitch slap him and say, "Are you a crazy person??"
I accidentally voted for Haye. I got Wladimir by mid to late KO. If either of them win it'll be by KO. Neither of them are known for having the greatest of chins...
Combination of both but I do think physical more so than heart. People like Tito and Thomas Hearns didn't have the best of chins but made up for it with heart and determination.
Both, but probably more physical than mental. Without the physical aspect I don't believe the mental will aid much. In contrast, a good physical chin can be bolstered by the right mental makeup. LaMotta is a good example of this combination.
Yeah good observation. I agree.
you're in no position to talk shit wetsexyllamaPR. your boy tito is still the poster boy "special" hand wraps.
So because you think another fighter has done it it's ok for Marge to do it? Your not a fan of boxing if you excuse this despicable act that can ruin a man's career. Boxing is already a dangerous enough sport when it's fair. You get nothing from me.
beautiful isn't it?
Lol love your sig. But yeah it was a great night for the sport and I'm glad Mosley owned the cheater. Even though Mosley was caught with steroids a few years ago... :ugh::cop:
Officials found what one doctor described as plaster of Paris hidden in the wrapped hands of Antonio Margarito (above left at the weigh-in Friday) shortly before the welterweight champion's title defense against Shane Mosley (above right) on Saturday at the Staples Center, leading to accusations that Margarito may have been trying to cheat.
According to Judd Burstein, the attorney for Mosley, Margarito had wet pads in the wrapping. Mosley's doctor, Robert Olvera, likened the material to the type of plaster used to make casts.
"It gets hard and mobile," said Olvera, who said he scratched the pad and "flakes of plaster of Paris" came off.
Burstein said he seized the pad removed from the wrapping and another pad found in Margarito's dressing room. Both were placed in a sealed box that was given to Dean Lohuis of the California Boxing Commission for further study.
Burstein said representatives of both boxers "discussed this exact issue" at Friday's rules meeting "and they went ahead and violated it."
After the suspicious pads were removed from Margarito's dressing room, the boxer's hands were rewrapped and the fight went off on time. Because the violation was caught before Margarito stepped into the ring, Margarito's camp will likely be subject to little more than a disciplinary action if the substance is found to be illegal.
Nazzim Richardson, the trainer for Mosley, was the first to notice something unusual about Margarito's wrap job and asked officials to take the tape off. That's when the foreign substance was discovered, seized and placed in a box for investigation after the bout.
"That's a serious offense," an official with Golden Boy, Mosley's promoter, said. "That's cheating."
Mosley was informed of the discovery before the fight, Burstein said. According to the lawyer, Mosley said he took that as evidence that Margarito "was scared" going into the bout.
Todd duBoef, president of Top Rank, Margarito's promoter, shrugged and said he was told only that "additional gauze" had been taken off his fighter's hand wraps.

LOS ANGELES -- Welterweight titleholder Antonio Margarito was forced to re-wrap his hands before Saturday night's defense against Shane Mosley at Staples Center after Mosley trainer Nazim Richardson discovered an abnormality during the pre-fight inspection.
"It was a plaster-like substance," Golden Boy Promotions attorney Stephen Espinoza told ESPN.com. "It was bagged up by the commission and taken as evidence."
Espinoza said that Dean Lohuis, co-executive director of the California State Athletic Commission, said it was discovered under both of Margarito's wraps.
Margarito's camp could not be reached for comment.
Richardson originally had objected to the amount of tape on Margarito's hands and when it was removed, the foreign substance was discovered, Espinoza said.
Richardson, who trains Bernard Hopkins, had also objected to Felix Trinidad's hand wraps before their historic 2001 undisputed middleweight championship fight. Trinidad was forced to have his hands re-wrapped and Hopkins went on to knock him out in the 12th round to unify titles.
:cop: :smashfrea
i never said it was ok for margarito or anyone to do it, moron. all im saying is that youre a hypocrite for shitting all over margarito when your pride and joy tito is also infamous for this. think before you speak jackass :smashfrea
This coming from the guy who has a cheating coward on his sig. Margarito is a cheater who disrespects the sport of boxing and himself. You support that by having him on your sig. A hypocrite who speaks of hipocrisy. You get nothing from me and you are not a fan of this sport.
Yeah lets do that with no actual proof of anything! great one dip shit!!!

Your defending a cheating cowardly fraud. You ought to be ashamed of yourself.
wraps situation aside, margarito is a special fighter and i will always admire him and support him, we still dont know what exactly is going on and we have ABSOLUTELY no idea how many times he has been doing this. people (haters like you) are jumping to conclusions just to discredit his past accomplishments. and please stop saying that im not a fan of this sport, you sound idiotic

Your an idiot for supporting this cheating fraud. Why would he magically start cheating in his 40th pro fight?? You disrespect the sport. The safety of fighters should be paramount. Your a moron and I'm done with you.
The question was'nt would Floyd accept a Trinidad match now was it?
The question states who wins at Welter... hence assuming both fighters accept the fight.
I understand. However when you see that he was afraid of losing to lesser WW's and chose not to fight them it's a good indicator as to who would win if they met at WW Prime vs Prime. Tito by lopsided decision or KO. Tito never lost at WW and had 15 defenses with 1 unification fight. Tito has been the best WW since the 80's era of Leonard, Duran and Hearns. Mayweather would lose.
How people can vote for Floyd is beyond me. Floyd avoided Shane Mosley, Antonio Margarito and Miguel Cotto for fear of losing. What makes you think he would ever consider fighting Tito at WW if he refused to fight these lesser WW's?
I think him driving a hard bargain in negotiations for the Hatton fight is indicative of the fact that he's well aware he's the smaller man in this fight who's risking alot by attempting to claim another world championship in his 6th weight class. Some people forget he's been champ at 112, 122, 126 (Ring Belt against MAB), 130 and at 135. He's moved up an awful lot and a fight at 140 against such a strong, physical Hatton at that weight is a great risk and I'm sure he wants the financial side of things to take that into account. Hopefully the fight gets made though...
